I'd like to get my mom a gift card for a place that sells really nice sewing machines, preferably in Dartmouth.
I've heard Kelly's Creative Sewing as an option - any others to consider? Atlantic Fabrics? Fabricville?
Looking for a place that will have a decent selection and can answer any questions she has after she picks one out. Maybe the place can even service her machine if it later has issues. She has a machine but is interested in upgrading. She sews as a leisure activity, just fyi, not a business or anything.
Thanks in advance for the recs.
Don't do Fabricville, the others you've mentioned are good along with sew with vision mentioned. Atlantic fabrics is good for general sewing, sew with vision is more about quilting. Don't know much about Kelly's.
Thanks for the feedback!
Not in Dartmouth but

Located in Clayton Park, they are the real deal, and although they don't do in house repairs, hardly anyone does anymore, they are a drop off point for Bridgewater Sewing Center
Thanks so much, I'll add this to my short list
I brought my machine in for servicing here and it was great! Reasonable price and quick turnaround, the repair tech drives up from Bridgewater weekly. They also sell new machines, and lots of cute fabrics.
My mom got hers done a few years ago and she was very pleased with the service
I didn't buy mine at Kelly's as we bought it direct, but she is the only authorized service spot for my brand. The machines she offers are really great and she's very knowledgeable. I had to get new needles, and for my use the non-name brand were just as good as the more expensive brand version. I appreciated that advice as I want to make sure I'm not going to do something that messes with my machine. It's like a 40 minute drive for me, but anything I need brand specific, I will absolutely go out there vs buying online.
Sew with Vision is also a great shop. The workers there are really nice and again, knowledgable when I needed advice on a project I was working on. They also have classes.
I would personally put Atlantic Fabrics third. I love the huge fabric selection, but I haven't looked at the machines to see what brands they carry, and I don't know if they service. I know when I go to the other two they really know their machines.
Fabricville I wouldn't buy a machine from there. I only go there if I need something I can't seem to find at Atlantic Fabrics or Sew with Vision, which has occurred twice in 10 years. And both times, I was ignored when asking for help.
Thanks so much for the feedback
Stitch and Knit in downtown Dartmouth would be worth a call
I got my machine at Kelly's and have had good success there with service and maintenance. Very knowledgeable.
Thanks, this is probably my first choice but happy to see other recs coming through for comparison.
I also got my sewing machine from Kelly's. I haven't needed any aftercare yet but I'm very happy with my machine.
Atlantic Fabrics in Dartmouth, just off Portland St. It's a great store, lots of crafty bits too.
Will also put my vote in for Kelly’s. I bought a used serger from he about 10 years ago and it’s still going strong
