**EDIT: Per recommendation, I reported the incident online. I was unable to reach them via phone, but an email address is available where I sent the picture and additional details.
I was walking back to my car sometime between 7:50 and 7:55pm tonight and heard a loud crunching sound nearby. I was parked near the food court entrance.
Your car: Black BMW, Plate #GFZ 835, "Nova Scotia P.Eng" front plate and Eastlink tag hanging on the rearview mirror.
It was a large white pickup truck that hit you, possibly with red lettering. Unfortunately I didn't get a plate number. The driver left the scene, but they *definitely* knew they had done something bad as they initially slowed down right after it happened.
I reported it to mall security who said they could provide security footage if you request it. Hopefully you're reading this - Merry Christmas!

Reporting to HRP non emergency with this information should also help make its way to them!
This.
Hopefully the owner will check with security but they may not think to, especially is there is not a visible security camera near their car. But they would likely file a police report for their insurance, so hopefully HRP puts two and two together.
Hopefully an outdoor security camera got the plate.
There's way too much of this going on lately, what the hell is wrong with people.
Right? It made a really loud sound, there’s absolutely no way the guy didn’t notice he swiped someone’s car.
Zero accountability and vehicle bloat
My vehicles already been hit 3 times leaving it in parking lots in bayers lake….i don’t even take it out at this point and find every excuse just to not drive it
Of course, it’s not always doable this time of year, but as an able-bodied person who sometimes drives my partner’s new, unscratched car, I make it a habit to park at the very far edge of any parking lot, which people love to avoid because they might have to walk for an extra 30 seconds to the front door. Then I can spend that extra 30 seconds of walking patting myself on the back for not engaging in the parking wars.
I genuinely will never understand why even when I park as far away from everyone else someone parks near me
Accidents happen, always have and always will. But the the main reason why so many people flee is that insurance is so damn expensive. The whole industry is out of control. Its cheaper to leave the scene. People already pay hundreds a month ,especially when you're younger and/or have tickets or prior accidents. If this truck stayed there or left the victim their info, his insurance would have gone up. But now he may only have few scratches on his bumper. We have one of the most expensive insurance in the world. And there's no reason for it other than greed, price fixings and government ignorance. In EU people pay for the whole year what we pay in 2 months. Are our cars made out of gold or something?
Yeah accidents happen, but it's a real dick move to damage someone elses property, sometimes in the thousands and then just drive away like nothing happened.
Yeah my car was hit in a parking lot and it cost nearly four grand to fix. Took out my hatchback and put the rebar through my bumper. Since there was no one to fault,it cost me my deductible for the second time. The first was a rock flying off a truck and cracking my windshield. :/ My car has been damaged 2 other times without me in it but damage was not worth the deductible. I get no one wants insurance to go up but it’s a crappy thing to do to someone!
DASHCAM
I backed my car into a truck and absolutely wrecked the front of that truck. No damage on my car, because the bumper lined up well but there were plastic parts on the road and broken lights on the truck. I placed a note on the truck, tucked under the wiper, and I went into the nearby drugstore (only store open) looking for the truck owner but had no luck. Nobody ever called me back.
it is shitty that people don't take responsibility for this stuff.
Sharing to some EastLink peeps.
Did you leave a note too? The person probably isn't on Reddit.
Unfortunately I didn’t have anything to leave a note with. My wife hung around outside in case they returned to their car while I was inside talking to security, but no luck.
Fortunately with most insurance policies if you have comprehensive/ all peril your protected in these kind of situations. They should waive deductible and not hold the victim liable. The person who did this is an absolute douchebag. If I had to guess from the description it's likely a company vehicle and they would be fired if they get found out. Not reporting it they can say they got hit and they were the victim of an unknown driver. Hopefully security managed to get good video and contacts the company who owns the truck.
If the vehicle that hit them as insurance, you won’t pay a deductible, but when I was hit, they did not have any, and I had to pay whatever my deductible was. Got a cheque 7 months later in the mail after the company took them to court though lol
Damn, so what do we pay unknown / uninsured driver premiums for then? Unless some comp / all peril policies have that as a separate thing?
I’d honestly have to look specifically at my policy for the details, it’s been the same for over a decade when I first bought the car, had to have the full coverage because of the loan. I just remember being super pissed off about paying the deductible lol
I don’t know who painted the parking spots on the upper lot at the mall but it is HORRIBLY tight. Not excusing this, but they need to fix it.
And that’s why I park as far away as I can with no other vehicles around and get my steps in. I realize not everyone can do this.
