Ranked seasons, balance councils etc are scheduled till december 2028 so that's a potential date. But it's something that devs can just hop in for a moment and extend it so don't take it too serious 

I highly doubt it, unlike most games abandoned by the devs, CDPR left a system in place for player-driven updates for balance changes. If they cared enough to add this I reckon they’ll only fully drop Gwent after the playerbase does.

The balance updates themselves are a massive deal on keeping the game alive. The specific balance changes themselves are hit and miss, but the fact that stuff is regularly changing and being buffed/nerfed keep the meta fresh, which is a massive deal on retaining players. Obviously there was a big drop when they announced no new cards would be printed, but the playerbase is still healthy and its been pretty steady since, you can still instantly find a game in pretty much any rank at any hour of the day.

Given the fact that there is still plenty of players, I doubt the game will be closed in forseeable future.

As for the state of the game... Well, it's dead in terms of new content. The monthly balancing by the community is going suprisingly well, imo.

I think as long as new Witcher projects are on the horizon, there is hope for more Gwent content in the future.

Let's think logically. The Witcher IP is the flagship of CDPR. Do you really think they would shut down a Witcher card game right before their release of three more Witcher games? Gwent itself is a commercial for the upcoming games and it keeps players invested in the IP for a minimal cost.

I think it's more likely to get new content than be closed given the healthy player base and new book and upcoming new game.
