I get it... it's not profitable to send out lefty stock of every club to retailers etc. since it might just sit. I don't understand, however, how we have gotten to the point where the manufacturers are not sending out demos for fitting and not offering certain lofts to lefties AT ALL. I'm more than happy to test something on a demo and then order it custom and wait... but having no option to buy at all seems absurd. Are there really that few lefties playing that it's better to just not sell to us at all?!
I'm not sure if you can but try and buy from a Canadian retailer. There is a significantly higher population of left handed golfers in Canada so there is more stock. Plus if you're American with the way the exchange rate is you may come out ahead.
Something to do with hockey. Or so I’ve heard. 😉
That's what they say! Anecdotally I definitely find it to be true, all the guys that I know that were higher level hockey players golf left handed.
They start playing hockey at a younger age, usually you want your dominant hand on the bottom of the stick for power and control but young kids don't have enough strength to one hand the stick comfortably on their off hand so they just play lefty.
This is completely wrong. You have your top hand as your dominant hand for control and stuck handling.
Yeah I am the weirdo (for here) that is right handed for everything and sometimes finding a good right handed hockey stick is hard. I was never good though and stopped playing when I was 12 because hit hockey scared me lmao
You want your dominant hand on top of a hockey stick. Top of the stick is used for control. You’ll see guys practicing stick handling 1 handed and it’s the top hand
Can some of the Canadians (or whoever) chime in on some Canadian golf retailers with the best ecommerce platforms that we can check out? Would be more than happy to pay a premium if I could get access to some stuff I can't down here
Our big golf chain is Golftown. Golfavenue is a used retailer that may help and you could also try eBay and buy used. Do these places ship to the US? That I don't know but there are ways around that.
Not sure if that helps with the issue that manufacturers not sending out demos and are not producing certain lofts or even clubs for lefties though.
Again not saying it's like this everywhere but the last time I was in a golf store it was a 70/30 split between right and left handed clubs on the rack. Sure, that they don't make everything in left-handed but the club's they do make left are readily available.
Can confirm. There are more lefties than righties at my club.
Have you all ever tried to find a lefty 7 wood? It's like trying to find gold. Can't get one from manufacturers, Callaway Preowned or Global Golf.
Did this dance two years ago. Ping tends to be a great place to start (and a great product). You are correct, though, many of the manufacturers don't produce the 7 wood loft in their fairways for leftys
Thank you for the reminder with Ping! I have their 430 Max 5W. Just hard to justify full price for an odd utility club like a 7W.
PGA superstore gift card online was how I got mine. It’s pricy but I do use my 7w fairly often
Might just have to bite the bullet come springtime. A little winter thaw gift!
Tour edge x series makes 7 woods. Not the exotics line so they're affordable. Gotta go direct from them
Thank you for the recommendation!
I finally got one on Callaway preowned last year after months of searching for a deal. It was in pretty rough shape but I kept it anyways because I was just so frustrated by then.
Heard that loud and clear. They currently have one Elyte LH 7W but it's in "good" condition. Right now, it's hard to justify purchasing a well loved club for $230. The hunt continues!
Took me months to find one good one. In the end I found a tsr2 7 wood on sale with a nice hzrdus shaft. It’s my favourite club in the bag right now.
Heck yeah, congrats on the find! If you see another one like that, save my info lol.
I have been looking for this club for some time. Never anything on Callaway preowned
There's an Elyte for a lot of money in good condition if you're willing to hit something played fairly regularly.
I actually had to email the callaway preowned rep and ask to keep me in mind when a 7 wood hit his sheets. I was lucky enough to grab one and it’s amazing
We’re only 10% of the population so yea most don’t care about us.
Only way they'll care about us if we push to replace L in LGBT with lefty.
Lefty Golfers, Both- handed Too!!
We are, but that's why I switch to right handed. My first clubs were free.
Come to Canada. I think I played only 3-4 rounds this year out of ~90 or so that I didn’t play with at least one lefty.
Is it because of hockey that Canadians are lefty on a higher proportion to the rest of the world? The only comparison I have in the UK is field hockey and that’s a solely right handed sport
Its not that more Canadians are really left handed ( although maybe?) , its that in ice hockey a lot of people learn to hold the stick with their strong hand at the top. So a lot of righties shoot left for hockey. Once you are swinging that way, you tend to do it for everything. My son is right handed, but golfs lefty - a result of lefty hockey sticks when he was little. He bats left in baseball too.
Mostly hockey, yes. They are taught to play with the dominant hand on top, so righties shoot “left”.
That makes sense, thanks!
Yes, without question the inter-generational influence of hockey has made Canada have the highest population of left-handed shooting golfers in the world, by far.
There are no accurate statistics kept or tracked for this phenomenon, but it's entirely possible that up to 1/3rd of all recreational golfers in Canada play golf left-handed.
Maybe travelling to Canada for a club fitting is the way to go!
It would be worth considering a visit for sure, as there are often more left-handed clubs available and out on display on the floor.
There are some very upscale boutique golf shops that don't carry any left-handed clubs, but most regular retail stores do.
After your shopping is done, you might need to buy a new bag to help you travel with them all back to the US.
DM me for a list of stores.
Lefty golfers should always buy clubs they like (or might like) whenever they do find them, because odds are good they won't ever see them again on the shelf, or in that particular loft, or in that particular model, and/or from that particular manufacturer.
Buy and horde, decide what to keep or not later.
Next.
100%. For months I’ve been hunting for the adjustable loft Cobra UT 3 iron from a few years back because I love the 4 iron and I finally just snagged it. You get some great deals occasionally but I don’t know if it outweighs just how much time you have to spend looking.
I have one in my garage… nearly new condition, lefty King Utility 3i with the adjustable hosel. I never got along with it. Bought a Srixon and I adore it.
This seems to be the move. I find I just have to trust online reviews and then buy stuff (if they make it at all for lefties) and sort it out later
I went to Dicks to look at Drivers and they didn’t have any lefty drivers in stock or demos. The employee told me to go buy the 3 I wanted and bring them in and I could then return the ones I didn’t like.
Crazy that I have to buy $1800 worth of drivers to try.
I have only gone back to Dicks in a pinch and it’s just for Golf balls.
that is a crazy pitch by that sales person lol. do not buy 3 and then return 2. they could easily say oh you hit these? non returnable. just not worth that risk at a corporate big box store. every time i go to golf galaxy i get a different answer. get a fitting at a reputable golf center if possible. if not just hit them all in the bay at golf galaxy. that’s what i do lol. figure out which one you like best in terms of feel and look. i’m a 10 handi. i just am trying to hit the ball straight
That's unfortunate, I've gotten some barely used lefty demo clubs from dicks in two different cities in Indiana, usually for cheaper than used at the end of the season.
Golf shops in the UK are few and far between. Travelled an hour when I wanted a new putter and they only had one left handed one (which was £300!)
Same thing when I went to buy a new putter. Dicks had exactly one left hand
Leave reviews, warn others
A PGA Superstore couldn't switch to lefty for the sim
All I could do was hit into a net
Anything bought could only be returned for store credit.
That's on their Yelp
Don’t have to be left handed to swing left. 30 to 40 percent of Canadians do the just that. Baseball has 40 percent of hitters batting left. I am sure there would be a lot more demand in the US if they stopped calling them left “handed” and let people learn what feels comfortable.
I would legit travel to find a place with a decent selection of clubs to demo. But, ladies lefties are basically nonexistent… add that I also wear a cadet glove and just finding gear is easily a hobby in itself.
My wife is a lefty who tried golf for a little while, she bought a couple of Callaway clubs in Florida. It was a bit shit to say the least. Your best bet is the direct to retailer ones, tacamo or maltby.
Yeah it's pretty lame. Pretty much have to fly blind when ordering new clubs
Just buy direct! (I know it doesn't solve the demo problem but still)
Highly recommend Callaway Preowned. Recently got a set of "like new" irons to fill out my travel set. They were brand new. Left handed stock can be limited on there cause it can go quick. That iron set wasn't there one day and the next day it was. I sold a few clubs on offer up a few years back and they all sold within 2 hours of posting. There's definitely a lefty market that these companies are missing, surprised at least one club maker hasn't leaned into it a tad more.
Callaway also days great trade in deals, especially around the new year. Got 40% off brand newaiSmoke driver and woods from trading in my old ones.
I generally do and I agree that Callaway preowned is great. Unfortunately Callaway is also one of the manufacturers frustrating me right now - I called every possible option in my area m to try and hit the new Apex UW and none had a lefty to demo. They also aren't producing the 17 degree option in lefty... so they are part of my gripe right now, haha.
The balance is that you tend to have more options on the clearance racks
Best golf trip i ever went on were with a bunch of hockey players . Almost all were LH and got to test all their clubs 👊🏌️♂️🏌️♂️
I know the feelings. I want to try differnt wedge grinds and wedges are the strongest part of my game and I have a self admitted variety of wedge shots I hit.
But, the wedge grinds simply aren’t available off the shelf at a retailer for me to try!!
Live in the states, and my regular foursome contains 3 lefties - 1 who has played hockey.
When i first started playing there was a little local golf shop near me and the owner was left handed. They had probably 18-20 sets of clubs to demo, way more than I've ever seen since. Sadly they closed up and put an urgent care there.
Try being a short, lefty, lady. There are no choices. Everything has to be fitted.
I can tell you from a retailer perspective that when you carry a left handed product, generally it collects dust. The reason for this is because there are deals on left handed product everywhere, so stocking a new LH product is a difficult decision. If you want to test this theory check eBay, you will always find the best deals on left handed product.
That being said we try to stock as much as we can, and if we come out with a new product that we have a lot of confidence in, we offer it in LH out of the gate (we are doing this with our 2026 fairway wood release).
Lolwut
Us Lefty's get shafted when it comes to deals what are you even saying bro
I wish that were true. There's a bunch (if not most) of manufacturers that flat out don't make certain clubs and lofts in LH at all. And most brands make the LH clubs in smaller quantities to begin with. We have way less options and less clubs overall.
I went to Dick's recently and there wasn't a single LH putter in the store for me to try out. I then drove over to a local golf shop and their LH putter selection was like maybe 1/10th the selection of RH putters. We don't get deals anywhere haha even the used market can be rough
Yup, I want a 50 degree wedge and as far as I can tell, that simply does not exist for lefties.
Callaway brah
Far better than it was 20 years ago, Titleist is almost everything, ping is everything I think
I have a couple of great sets of left-handed Ping irons that I can sell.
I'm a lefty and feel your pain. What's interesting about it is that over the past 15 years, there are 5-10x as many golfers playing lefty than when I first joined. Yet it is still difficult to get certain lefty clubs to demo and get fitted
So I'm working on DTC left handed clubs but the truth is I get a ton of people that are lefties talking up how they'll buy and preorder and blah blah blah but when the preorders open up they're nowhere to be found.
You lefties either preorder the clubs or nobody is gonna make or cater to you, it's that simple. Beggars can't be choosers.
So fitting equipment costs money. Imagine it takes 3 fittings to recover the fitting heads. With lefties being maybe 1 in 10 fittings, it won't be until 30 fittings later that you recoup the cost of the equipment, vs just not servicing lefties. Lefties should look for fitting days with manufacturers, not with retailers.
Lefties are 10% of the population. When it comes to golf, even less so. Some places say 5% others say 8%. The percentage of golfers willing to buy big name retail clubs is even smaller. With all these factors it simply doesn’t make sense for the retailer to stock everything
Being left handed in golf doesn’t mean you’re left handed in life. I golf left handed, as does my brother, and at least 5 of my friends and none of us are left handed. This is very common in Canada.
I’m left handed as shit and can’t even properly visualize swinging with my left hand on the bottom aka “lefty”. Same way with visualizing throwing a ball or trying to write with my right hand.
Which of your eyes is your dominant one?
Left
