(FWIW, as I remember it that was also part of Bryson's rationale; I think he was dealing with some injury issues at the time.)
HV3 had a long interview (Sports Illustrated??) where he talked about growing up poor rather than some privileged country club kid, and that made him value the guaranteed money b/c he knows what it's like to not have money. One LIV contract secured his family's financial future for the long haul. But, he also talked about having some sort of degenerative foot issue, and he likewise wasn't sure how long he could keep it up being competitive on Tour.

I am not going to blame anyone for taking the payday that comes out and says that they took it.

I don't think this really works on Brooks, who won a major after leaving for LIV.
His overall performance in majors has completely tanked outside of two majors in 2023. Missed the cut in 3/4 this year. LIV sucks.
