In Germany I see a lot of older bicycles, probably from the 1980s–1990s:
steel frames, V-brakes or cantilever brakes, narrow tires, drop handlebars, 6–7 speeds or even fixed gear.

I really like this style and would like to get one myself.

Does anyone know where it’s best to find or buy bikes like this?
Flea markets, eBay Kleinanzeigen, local bike shops, auctions, or any other tips?

Thanks!

  • Ah, the "inherited from my dad, then got stolen thrice before selling it to my neighbor when moving to another city"-special. Your best bet would be Kleinanzeigen.

  • You'll want to look for Peugeot bikes from the 80s - but they tend to be expensive for what they are. Remember that these won't come with indexed shifters, you'll need to control the tension of the cables yourself. You'll get the hang of it quickly but I know quite a few people who don't like this way of shifting gears, especially the reaching for the down tube.

  • Kleinanzeigen, local newspaper, check if your city has "Fahrradauktionen" where found and not reclaimed bicycles are auctioned.
