About a year ago I posted under a different account some Severian fanart that was very well received by the community (thank you!). After a long while, I decided to go a little further and make some kind of proper illustration with it.
In the process of deciding the background, one of the things I liked the most about "Sword of the Lictor" was the fact that the mountain highlands featured in the book are very similar to the ones I have near my city (Arica, Chile), so the imagery was specially vivid for me. So, I ended up with this "cel-style" color version of Severian, after leaving the city of Thrax.
Very nice work... again!
Is that the symbol for mercury at the end of Terminus Est?
Did you catch that, in Severian's time, every mountain has been carved into the shape of an Autarch?
It is the symbol, inspired by other designs I've seen online. About the mountains, I assumed (for illustration purposes) that the statues would be "higher up" in the mountains. This could be "outskirts of Thrax" maybe? Anyway, I might try doing a version with the statues, but I just kind went on with my gut.
Well done! I might quibble over the book accuracy of the fuligin color cloak but you are keeping in mind this is an illustration that people will actually look at.
Yes, otherwise it'd be a solid chunk of black. Tried to go as dark as possible without losing some legibility.
Excellent work, you did a great job here!
Very nice illustration. The way you've drawn the eye/face reminds me of OG Gundam character designs by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko.
Yes, I was going for a "handsome Kai Shiden" vibe so there's a lot of Yas in the design-
This is absolutely amazing. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Siiiick
This is awesome. FWIW I’d love to see a version where the cloak had no detail whatsoever. A void.
Wow! I’m really impressed! This looks great. Please keep illustrating and posting!
Trank you very much
Cool! Great details.
Too anime imo.
Can't get more anime than this TBH, fair point.
