Please Like Me is a superb, outstanding tv show. It is funny and on my, the emotional intelligence of it, these season hold up so well, I dare say it holds its own against Fleabag in that department. Season 4 was an outstanding achievement.
+1 on Please Like Me, it's colourful and nuanced, and light enough to binge but also has its moments. Captures the speed of normal every day life and it doesn't hurt to see someone that looks like an average person to be the star of the show.
I loved Jonathan Groff in Mindhunter, so when I learned he was the lead in Looking I nearly creamed my pants.
I got maybe 6 episodes in before I couldn't take any more. I don't know how they managed to make a series with so many unlikable characters. It didn't even seem like they liked each other.
Give it another chance! Patrick is insufferable at first but I will say that I think his character arc is good. Frustrating at times, but then again, isn't it more realistic that way?
The first season is good, but the rest, the writers lost their hand with it. They were too concerned with introducing conflict that they didn't let us follow the relationship blossom and then at the end it just wasn't something the audience could be sold on. Shows need to learn to take the time to show why the characters like each other.
No offense, but it's very telling how white this space is based on the shows that get recommended here. This is the first time I am seeing Pose get recommended here despite its popularity
I know it’s already on your list, but just jumping in to say that I recently watched Boots and ended up liking it way more than I expected. It didn’t seem like my cup of tea at initial glance, but honestly I kinda related to it as the son of a former Marine Corps officer.
The issue with a lot of «queer» media is that it’s teen/young adult media. I’m also tired of romance stories personally, and I want romance to be more of a side plot in the media that I consume, and gay romance of substance in that context is rarer than you’d think. A lot of what exists is whitewashed for the straight gaze.
I really enjoyed Looking and the movie was good too. It was very relatable and fun to watch. Fellow Travelers was also absolutely fantastic but I cried at least once per episode
Web Series I watched a long time ago. I don’t remember much but they were decent.
Kuntergrau - German I think so subtitles
Hunting Season - Comedy
Also SKAM has a variety of versions made by different countries. I don’t know if you saw those or not but despite having the same plot each country adapts the story to make it theirs.
Besides the original SKAM, I really liked ‘wtFock’ + SKAM Italia.
Mary & George - Not sure if this fits in your list but I found it entertaining. Plus I like the historical setting and Nicholas Galitzine.
HiStory (Web) Series Collection - Taiwanese collection of romance stories, each with a seperate couple. Not at all realistic but it was cute.
Absolute Beginners - Polish and coming of age sorta style.
This was a great lock down watch for me. The only other person I knew that watched it was in France, happy memories of text each other passionate opinions about it.
Cucumber, Banana and Tofu (three separate mini series, intertwined plots, basically an anthology). British. Is a good watch from what I remember, with some heavy shit involved
1 Girl 5 Gays, thank God for this show.. I would watch it on the volume on 2, just to see other gay guys.
It's a round table of 1 Girl and 5 Gay Guys asking about 20 questions each episode. it's not a picture of all or for all gays, but it was a snapshot of some gays and I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciated it. 🥺
Feels like Steven Universe and Owl House both deserve a nod in this thread. My god what the world might be like today if that progressive of children’s animation had some 20 years earlier.
Merlí and Merlí: Sapere Aude are both very nice, it's originally in Catalan but I think it has been translated to English and it was on Netflix as far as I remember
I started watching Love Victor and is hella cute but similar to Overcompensating in the story.
It is hard to be a gay teenager in a heteronormative society and yet I lived and escaped a heteronormative homophobic family and society so I have a lot to relate to both stories🥴
Please Like Me
Interview with the Vampire
I think Please Like Me is probably my favourite gay TV show ever.
Probably one of my all-time favourites, period.
There is one episode in particular involving his mom that absolutely fucking destroyed me. I'm still not the same

It is a must watch.

Looking (2014)
People are forgetting the ancient texts already...
Queer as Folk trembling in the corner
Richie my beloved
Ugh he was way too good for Patrick. Team Richie forever.
I loved Jonathan Groff in Mindhunter, so when I learned he was the lead in Looking I nearly creamed my pants.

LOVE
Going to rewatch. Always makes me want to move to Sf
It's a Sin!
I think about this show every so often. It's a hard watch but really important and good
Great show, but I don't think I could watch it again. Definitely recommend.
Excellent show, but a word of caution.
Don't watch it all in one sitting. You'll be crying so much because every episode is so heartbreaking
Yep. Sobbing. But a great show.
Such a fire show
Danny will die alone.
Woke
Fellow travelers
Tales of the city
+1 for Woke (Les Engagés). The hunky top is super hot.
Schitt’s Creek and The Other Two. Both have queer characters in main roles.
Love, victor

Please Like Me is so great
Smiley is cute
Sense 8
Yes sense8!!!!!
Aww this one is hot
Afraid this is going to be so unrealistic for OP.. 😂
Young Royals on Netflix has a lot of aesthetic overlap with SKAM.
Cucumber, which is created by Russel Davies (creator of queer as folk UK).
And also it's companion show, Banana
And tofu.
Is it any good ?
It is outstanding. There is one episode I would rank as one of the best episodes of television ever. I think it is episode 6 if I remember correctly.
That episode left me scarred. Honestly thought I was going to throw up after that scene.
East Siders
Definitely should be on the list. Kit Williamson did a great job with it.
Pose
This is a very important one imo
I just finished this show a few weeks ago and it changed my life. What a beautiful piece of art.
This one is a compulsory watch
No offense, but it's very telling how white this space is based on the shows that get recommended here. This is the first time I am seeing Pose get recommended here despite its popularity
Looking. Seriously!
Will and Grace Love, Victor Smiley Fellow Travelers Mid Century Modern
Mid city modern wasn’t good. It tried too hard.
Interview with the Vampire
The original movie or the remake?
Remake is hot
Special on Netflix
What we do in the shadows

Invisible Boys
This looks SO GOOD and right up my alley, thank u
Young Royals, amazing show
Fellow travelers
The Magicians. You will ugly cry at one point.
Midnight Texas has a gay couple but the show is meh.
I'm watching it with my partner right now. This is my fourth rewatch. 🍑🟣
I know it’s already on your list, but just jumping in to say that I recently watched Boots and ended up liking it way more than I expected. It didn’t seem like my cup of tea at initial glance, but honestly I kinda related to it as the son of a former Marine Corps officer.
SAAAAME , Boots was SOCKINGLY good. I really hope they get a season 2 cuz I loved the character Jones too much.
Fellow travelers
Pose, Noah’s ARC
I had to scroll waaaaay too far to see Noah's ARC
Frfr The incredible non-being of non-whiteness
It's so disappointing, that show shaped my life.
Glad you said so I didn't have to.
Finally seeing someone recommend those shows here. The demographics of this sub are very telling
Dead Hot ( Tubi) Big Boys (Hulu) Prime Target (Apple TV) We are who we are (hbo max )
"We are who we are" was so aesthetic and good I forgot to add it 🥲
In prime target's trailer they did not mention him being gay once which is interesting
London Spy
London Spy was terrible, but Ben Wishaw was also in This Is Going To Hurt which was outstanding.
Is he gay in this going to hurt ?
Yes!
Yeah, it only has an 85% on rotten tomatoes. 🙄
Smiley !! it's SO good
House of Flowers
Rick and Steve
Please like me (2013)
Child's play the tv series
Vicious
English Teacher on Hulu is decent

You can't have SKAM on there and not have Young Royals
Big Boys!
It's a Sin (on Channel 4 UK, by Russell T Davies)
Young Royals (Swedish show on Netflix)
Love, Victor (sequel to Love, Simon. On Hulu (?) and BBC iPlayer)
Hannibal.
Looking from HBO Vicious from the UK
Sordid Lives! Only has one season unfortunately but it doesn’t get any gayer really.
Sense8
Pose
Paris is burning
Bonding
Sex education (not exclusively, but deals a lot of with queer issues)
I agree with the others too, but you're the first I see that mentioned Sex Education which I thought had a really cute gay romance in it
I laughed way too hard to Q-Force on Netflix. Wish it had more seasons.
Lol I watched that when I was in the military and it was hilarious.
Sense8

Vicious
Mo Dao Zu Shi / Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. It’s a donghua ( Chinese animation ) and it has also a live action called The Untamed in Netflix.
There’s also tons of Thai, Taiwanese and Japanese BLs but I doubt this sub would be interested anything “Asian”
So, it's a movie, not a show but I loved Red, White and Royal Blue.
LEGENDARY.
This was a great lock down watch for me. The only other person I knew that watched it was in France, happy memories of text each other passionate opinions about it.
Such an amazing show. Shame that HBO cancelled it. The House of Balenciaga Tinseltown performance still lives rent free in my mind.
I feel that hugs - also shout out to that French vogue group. I know you guys were yelling every time they were on
The Last of Us S1 EP 3
Six Feet Under (not gay focused though)
There's tons of gay tv in Asian BLs but idk if the majority here would even want to read subtitles.
TLOU in general applies because of Ellie
Prisma was cancelled after the second season. In the most beautiful point of the story. I hate them for this. It was outrageous.
Smiley
Big boys
Cucumber, Banana and Tofu (three separate mini series, intertwined plots, basically an anthology). British. Is a good watch from what I remember, with some heavy shit involved
Not a TV show but a really cute movie I saw recently:
The Astronaut Lovers directed by Marco Berger. The movies in Spanish
Difficult People
Cucumber
Elite has a sizable lgbt cast especially after s3
Cucumber
That list needs some fun:
Will & Grace
Mid-century Modern
Fellow Travelers
Fellow Travellers
Fellow Travelers
Schitts Creek.
It's the tv show I needed as a young gay but didn't get til my 30s
My Brother's Husband got a TV adaptation, and if you can find it, it's a must-watch critical piece of gaysian media.
Smiley on Netflix
Banana (2015). Its a British show

Will & Grace
“Merlí: Sapere Aude” and “Smiley” - both star Carlos Cuevas and he is such a dreamboat and a wonderful Actor to boot. Highly recommend.
Merlí and Merlí: Sapere Aude are both very nice, it's originally in Catalan but I think it has been translated to English and it was on Netflix as far as I remember
Young royals
Not seen anyone recommend the Angels in America miniseries. It's a wonderful (and weird) piece of art that I absolutely love.
Juego de las llaves.
The first season has too many straight couple hooking up, but the second and third seasons are good.
Single, Out Its a great show!
It's A Sin
Young royals, season 1.
Smiley (2022) Spanish show
English Teacher Fellow Travellers
Maybe Q-Force? I know it’s a cartoon, but anyway. Also I think this show was pretty funny
The Summer Hikaru Died is amazing
Dante's Cove. There's a lot of nudity tho.
Faking it. It somehow didn't make a big splash but it warms my gay little heart
I have not watched it yet, but I have only heard good things about the k-drama, 'Love In The Big City'.

How ‘bout “Good Grief”?
Torchwood
If you’re willing to read subtitles, I can recommend a few non English ones that are very good and definitely worth a watch.
While not necessarily gay, but an interesting LGBTQ friendly story, The Secret of the River. Loved the show. It’s on Netflix.
Don't see it here, but I'm really enjoying the BL movies/dramas (Korean, Japanese, Philippines, Chinese or Thai). There are some great stories.
Two that come to mind:
They all have sub-titles as well, so if you can't speak/understand the languages you can still enjoy them.
