I mean to be fair they say they couldn't find a way to shrink him down. Yet they have Hank freaking Pym (technically a skrull at this point but close enough) on their side. What do you mean you couldn't shrink him down.
All part of the spectacle in my mind. “Oh, I couldn’t shrink him down so now a shit ton of people will have to witness this. Boy I hope this doesn’t escalate things to the point where it’s even easier to infiltrate the humans…”
Yeah, but the writers could've made a million different creative decisions that wouldn't have led to a black man being lowered into his grave with chains wrapped around him
That reaction doesn't even make sense??? Original poster just states that he thinks the in-universe action of burying is insane, not that the author shouldn't have done this because it is too extreme... The commenter is too sensitive to get triggered by criticism of characters/in-universe motives! Commenter should go to childish fandoms if they can't handle fair criticism
Agreed. I haven't read the comics, so I dont know if this character is feared or beloved, but i assumed that the OOP assumed they were burying him because he was so feared, that even in death, they didn't want to risk him getting back up. You know what they say about assumptions, though.
In the narrative, he was beloved. The character is Goliath, an at best D-list superhero with the power to grow himself. Literally the most prominence he ever got was being killed in the Civil War story and the controversy surrounding the fact that Marvel signed off on a panel being drawn where a black superhero was being lowered into a grave wrapped in chains, with the in-universe explanation being that they couldn't find a way to shrink his body down. In a comic book storyline that involved basically all the major characters in Marvel, including and especially a guy who's power is to shrink and grow things.
I don’t disagree that he had a strong reaction. But what did OP expect them to do? Not bury him? The comic says they couldn’t shrink him down, so they were supposed to do what?
I don't know the context behind this, but if it is an ally, why not bury him in a big casket? Lower that with chains and then remove chains. This looks indeed very brutal if it is a good guy. He looks like a prisoner in such a crazy suit with crossed arms
I haven’t read the comics either, but judging by the funny looking yellow thing that appear to be full sized cranes, I think this guy might be a bit to big for a casket to be practical.
This is civil war,a comic thats pretty ass. As for Goliath here?he got killed by a weird thor robot made by tony stark and reed richards and somehow hank pym (ok skrull hank pym) couldnt find a way to shrink him down?its bullshit but then again,so is civil war
do you know how much Woods that it needs? He was as big as a 4 or 5 stories Building (probably bigger tbh, more like a skyscraper height) the whole amazon needs to be cut down to make it.
Not to mention they want to bury him quickly to reduce tension between the 2 sides
That's fair, but if chains are strong enough, why not make a metal frame and a partially wooden coffin? Idk, but if it has to be done fast, I can also see why they did this
The amount of material that it need to make his coffin is probably more that it was needed to make Chernobyl Dome.
And yeah time is the essence here, they were just finished fighting, and it was his death that stop it (and became catalyst to what happened next), it was important to all of them to stop and mourn and discuss what are they gonna do (and iirc the people that attend this funeral was the one kill him, His side was forced to exile underground)
The comics fandom has gotten more and more vile over time. Since a lot of very vocal comic fans are just man children they constantly act like their fandom is under fire from “society”
I love comics but my god I despise the community. It’s just so toxic and sad.
Steven universe villains were also sexual abusers. Gem fusion was analogous to sex, and they were constantly forcing each other the fuse. And the diamonds were genocidal. And the show ended with no accountability for anybody and everybody splashing around in a big fountain having a pool party! Bc who cares if you’re a rapist and a Nazi, it’s more important that we all stay friends! That show needed writers so bad.
I don’t think fusion was analogous to sex, but to a deep connection, of varying kinds. With Garnet it was romantic, with Stevonnie it was plutonic, and with whatever Greg and Steven fused into it was familial. It’d be weird if it was sexual and Steven and his dad fused.
Fusion was not analogous to sex. Steven literally fuses with all the crystal gems, Connie, and his own father at different points. The experience of fusing is typically based on close relationships. Shared goals are shown as another reason to fuse, like the original gem hierarchy having it literally be the jobs of some gems to fuse for more strength, or when Aquamarine and Eyeball fuse in the shared hate of Steven.
There were only a few cases of forced fusion iirc. The cluster and mutant gems being the most blatant case, being pushed to fusion by outside forces with the goal of weaponizing them. Jasper fusing with the corrupted gem was arguably forced, or at least coerced. Malachite was a trick to capture Jasper. Sardonyx was in several cases based on a lie.
The ending of the show was definitely rushed though. I definitely would have liked to see more depth and consequence for the Diamonds.
the reaction doesn't even make any sense... like,, the OP is making a comment about the in universe overkill of the burial.. like, what is the gatekeeper screaming at the voices in their head? are they replying to the wrong tweet?
I agree, POS comics is not for you. You should read nice comics. /jk Seriously though, this dude’s lack of punctuation made him seem even more unhinged. :P
People who defend Civil War confound me cause that event was ass across the board.
Aside from moments and costume changes here and there, I could not stand this event. It was very much not a hot take that Goliath was done atrocious during this, especially with this scene.
i just dont understand why it was made in the first place, it seems like alll it did was damage the reputations of all involved for the readers for no reason. Civil War 2 was even worse in this regard

He’s chained so that he can be moved and lowered into the grave obviously 🙄
Jesus…they’re going after the death of Goliath?!? There’s a literal crane in the scene, fucking put 2 and 2 together folks.
Also, fuck Ragnarok. Bitch ass robot…

Idk man it is like, fiction, so there are implications there
And to maybe stop Zombie Goliath.
I mean, I would say it’s fairly obvious why he’s got chains round him. Need something to lower him in by. Also stops his limbs flopping as much.

Its always the most emotionally uncontrolled people complaining about others being sensitive.

Why do you care so much about something you haven't read and have zero context for. It just makes you look kinda stupid tbh

Feed the people
Acid, incineration, carrion eaters, or good old fashioned bacteria
To be fair it seems like they got triggered by whatever was in the comment section, not just the post.

Steven Universe ended years ago and yet some people still can't get over its popularity.
Steven Universe and Hazbin Hotel... yep definitely both super cute child-friendly shows there so much better than comics...
Can we not comment on something in comics being "insane" without being labeled snowflakes now?
Go back to Gravity falls and adventure time then soft ass bitch reddit snowflake!
I'm joking, i love you really.
I would understand telling people to go watch Steven Universe if they're too "sensitive"... but not Hazbin Hotel XD
One of the villains is a sexual abuser...
I like both shows but I would not compare them to each other that way.
Steven universe villains were also sexual abusers. Gem fusion was analogous to sex, and they were constantly forcing each other the fuse. And the diamonds were genocidal. Hazbin Hotel is not for actual kids. It's got a mature content rating.
It's for your inner kid
Hazbin Hotel not being for kids is their exact point. They were being sarcastic in their comment.
Disagree. It is a show that seems targeted at middle school kids who just learned to start cursing.
One of the songs has a line that says
"From the porn studios
Where the cinophiles go
To watch award-winning demon bukkake shows..."
Definitely not intended for children.
Maybe not intended for but god does the fanbase skew younger IME
Again, sounds like a bunch of stuff a middle schooler who just learned how to be crude would write.
This is not to say i think children should watch it, but that it is definitely a level of writing that seems to appeal to children.
Bingo
[deleted]
Did you sleep through middle school or what?
Yeah that's my point...
I fear I still don't get what point you were trying to make
Its called sarcasm. Hazbin Hotel is absolutely NOT a super cute child-friendly show.
Ah. Sarcasm does not translate to text very well ig

What comic universe is this? Surely they can just shrink him
lol i thought he was talking about stand ups at first
All anime is dark and fucked up, it’s true. No such thing as slice of life.
I fucking hate civil war so much
This is a man's comic!
Angry 13 year old energy
Black guy takes attention away from a black man for click bait. Not a great look to support Black rights.
Also: Black Lives Matter.
What the fuck are you yapping about?
