  • Yes, the sub is meant to spark discussion and all that stuff you highlighted in the other comment you posted. But you didn't post a cocktail which is a clear violation of rule 2, just because you fulfill the other stuff or the spirit of the sub doesn't mean you haven't violated a rule. All you needed to do was include a picture of the finished cocktail.

I'm sorry, but even if we're going to "letter of the law it" it still doesn't violate rule 2:

Posts that serve only to show off pictures of bottles/ice/bars generally aren't allowed. If there's enough discussion in the comments then the post may be allowed to stay, at the discretion of the mod team.

It doesn't state a picture of a cocktail must be included, just generally unless there's a lot of discussion, which there was.

The sub isn't about pictures of cocktails, it's about the craft and culture of cocktails.

Nitpicking on things like this just kills community and engagement.  They just took another popular post down about the best mixing spoons.

If they want the sub to just be pictures of cocktails then they should name it and describe it as such, but that isn't the description or even the rules today.  It's silly to gatekeep this.

"at the discretion of the mod team" is the important part. The mod team didn't find your post exceptional enough to stay.

You live and you learn, next time include the finished cocktail. They removed your post, it's not a huge deal (or at least shouldn't be).

Whelp, the irony is all this discussion about not having a picture of the finished cocktail and that isn't even the reason they removed it, apparently:

r/cocktails MOD 1:44 PM If you post a picture or link, you must include the detailed recipe in comments: measurements, and detailed steps.

I give up, literally was just excited to share a fun riff on the negroni I discovered.

I think it's time to take a break from reddit.

  • You didn't post a cocktail in the cocktail subreddit and are butthurt it was removed?

  • I mean, it is a pretty clear violation of rule 2 to just post an image of the bottles

The description of the sub is

"Our mission is to be a welcoming community where anyone can learn all about making and drinking cocktails as well as the culture surrounding them."

    Rule 2 states

"Posts should invite discussion A post should promote or invite discussion, for example with interesting context, questions, or thoughts. If you post an article, explain why it might be of interest to others. Posts that serve only to show off pictures of bottles/ice/bars generally aren't allowed. If there's enough discussion in the comments then the post may be allowed to stay, at the discretion of the mod team."

The post had an ongoing and vibrant discussion, with dozens of upvotes and comments in the little time before it was taken down.  Please explain to me how this doesn't satisfy Rule 2.

Clearly the intent of the post wasn't to just "show off bottles," but to spark a discussion around negroni variations, which it did.

The post was obviously in the spirit (pun intended) of the sub.  C'mon meow...

Got a link to the post so that we can judge the "vibrant discussion" ourselves? What you showed in screenshot doesn't really qualify. I can't find it on your profile which normally only happens if you delete it yourself.

That's a fair amount of discussion, but also not that much. They have to set a boundary somewhere - I suspect your post was barely below the threshold the mod had in his mind.

They took it down right away lol. What do you expect?

I think that's pretty good for the limited time it was up, and indicates there would have been a lot more interesting and good hearted discussion and suggestions to follow.

Yes. The rule exception exists for cases where the mods didn't act fast enough. It does not exists as a general allowance for those kinds of posts.

  • Are they asking you to post a pic of the finished cocktail? I can imagine a cup with liquid in it just fine haha

It's a cocktail sub and they just posted a picture of ingredients.

I can imagine a hamburger just fine. That doesn't mean a picture of a package of store-bought ground beef would be an appropriate post on /r/burgers.

I mean listen, ingredient details are practically the only thing that matters in a cocktail discussion haha. If you show me a picture of a negroni and tell me that specific one is really good, I'm not going to know what's in it. Show me a burger with toppings and tell me it's good, I can see the toppings. You're not wrong, I'm just saying it is a little different. Show me a picture of ground beef and spices even, I'd allow that in my burger subreddit for discussing burger making

It's not like the sub set the rules after op posted there

The way some people wanna argue so bad. It's a silly rule, and I think less of the mods for being silly about it when the post was getting discussions started within the comments

Cool, so avoid that subreddit then.

There's plenty with shit rules and mods that I avoid. It's no big deal.

Where are you right now buddy? A subreddit for complaining about stupid gatekeeping. Maybe avoid this subreddit if people complaining about bad rules upsets you so much! 😀

    It's not gatekeeping though.

  • wow fuck the mods over there
