Absolutely. The mech-switching mechanic alone was ahead of its time - bailing out mid-fight and jacking an enemy suit was genuinely thrilling. LucasArts were cooking with this oned it's criminal it never got a follow-up.
Not quite the same, but Hardcore Mecha is an anime styled game that feels rather inspired by it, you can also jump out of your mecha in that and grab others, but I think the campaign is largely focused on only using one suit from what I remember.
definitely, my friend and i would jump out of our mechs and race to see who could get the flying octopus looking one and just try to death dive eachother. game was fantastic.
such a dope game. i would rent it many times. i would always struggle on that stage where you have to defend the ship using that walker that can't jump- prometheus i think it was. only beat that stage like once or twice lol
This was fun but Cybernator was my preferred mech-style game. It had grittier, military style and the guns had a punchier sound but the pace was a bit slower. Both games had a similar play style though.
I get serious nostalgia when I see the Konami intro, they had so many great games on the SNES.
Edit: Changed a few things after I looked at gameplay of both games and took off my nostalgia glasses.
The saying at the time was "Nintendo Hard". Home consoles and arcade games were designed much the same, so if it seems like the game is trying to kill you so that you have to start over, that's not by accident. On arcade they'd want you to spend more quarters to continue.
PvP was sooooo fun in this. Still can’t believe this was a Lucasarts game. Was a nice spiritual successor to Cybernator (granted the Assault Suits series was its own thing in Japan).
That was my all time favorite game on snes. Went to a retro game shop to buy an actual cartridge a few years ago and MAAANNN is it expensive. So happy emulators are a thing.
Zipping around with the Havoc Mech's rocket roller-skates then carving something up with its Axe-blade on a chain melee attack was the best. So was roasting space Hitler with the Prometheus' flamethrower.
The complete lack of post-hit invulnerability on the other hand... Oh great, that floating mine just hit me 27 times in a split-second and blew up my Mech!
This is the game that got me into Armored Core. I loved it as a kid. Then when I finally got my ps1, I saw the mech on the cover of Armored Core Master of Arena and thought of Metal Warriors. I was like, "a robot game on the ps1!!!!
I only ever saw this in a magazine back in the day, and it took me ages to remember the title when I got older and could buy my own games. being able to hop out and be a little man and get a new mech was so damn cool. Fun game too. It's a shame we didn't get more like this.
This game needs a sequel in the worst way

Oh, to pilot the prometheus once again...

One of the best damn games ever
Amazing game. Fun PvP.
Seriously. My cousins and I would play the PvP mode during the Christmas holiday. So much fun!
use to play vs my brother all the time on this. tons of fun when we rented it.
100% the same. We didnt even register it had a single player.
definitely, my friend and i would jump out of our mechs and race to see who could get the flying octopus looking one and just try to death dive eachother. game was fantastic.
Lucasarts cooked so much sauce back in the day
This game ran so titanfall could soar
SICK!
Never heard of it. Imma load it up.
Check out Cybernator while you’re at it.
The game slaps. I love how you could catch some enemy pilots outside their mechs and hijack them.
This blew my mind when I was a kid

Cybernator! Bro I miss that game.
First thing I thought of. SNES was like the Golden age of Konami.
Oh man I get this game mixed up with Metal Warriors. The gameplay is so similar as well if I remember.
Oh this is just dripping cool. I just checked and I do in fact have this on my miyoo mini plus. Loading it up right now!!
Edit: this game is hard lol

Game was so cool. I remember it being hard af.
Great game, and weirdly worth a ton of money today (likely because the n64 was about to come out and not many copies were made).
If you like this, try Front Mission Gun Hazard on SNES as well
Gundam is that you?
They look like bigger beefier Samus suits from Metroid

The story mode was awesome. It forced you to learn the systems and each mech, as well as realizing that you needed to move between mechs in a mission.
I loved that this game has a GREAT vs mode. Being able to get out of a mech and into another could make for some amazing long matches.
My brother was so mad I chose this for our game. He had to wait a whole month for the next pick.
This and Cybernator were two of my favorites.

Just watching that makes the title screen theme play in my head

I fucking love this game so damn much. Still have my game cartridge in my closet upstairs.
I got stuck in the first level and couldn't find my way out. I think because I was playing on touch screen and couldn't hit two buttons at once.
Damn dude, this takes me back. Such a great game.
OST slaps!
Awesome game, I still have it in my SNES storage!
I played it (I didn't get past the second level because the button to exit the robot wasn't working)
This game brought back so many memories! tyvm for sharing!
For sure there's a reason it's worth hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on condition, it's one of the best ever:

One of my faves.
Isn't this basically Cybernator? I loved that game on the SNES.
Damn that looks cool as hell. I miss that aesthetic.

It’s a 300+$ cart for a reason.
