Plenty of cats don’t have the easiest time getting used to new territories. The cat finds itself in a new environment at the whims of a human and it doesn’t know if the human simply migrated and brought the cat with them or if it’s just a really long and awkward visit. Could be a bit before it begins fully exploring/investigating its new territory.
