Ohh, what's wrong with boxwoods? I assume they're just non-native to north america, and planting native is always better. Is there a larger reason to avoid them beyond this? Genuinely asking to learn.
Honestly, most places nothing. Depending on where you live they might be invasive. They are basically the bush equivalent of a nicely manicured lawn tho. A non-native that is over planted and people spend way too much money dumping 'cides on them and having them trimmed multiple times a year
In my part of the US there’s also the Box Tree Moth which I’ve heard described as invasive, though I don’t know that it has any major negative effect on anything other than boxwoods. The problem that comes with that is that all the people who want to keep their boxwood shrubs keep buying replacement ones and having them treated with insecticides that target moths, as if it wasn’t enough to be growing plants that just don’t support native insects.
Source: I work at a garden park that has a ton of boxwoods and we’ve had to treat them like this. The ones we don’t treat get chewed to bits by caterpillars, and we are slowly replacing any boxwoods we have with other shrubs that are better suited to the environment and purpose in the garden.
There isnt really anything wrong with them, nor with lawns. But they kinda belong in the same category in that they’re boring and dont have that much to offer wildlife. (Weedy mulch mowed lawns actually have a lot more to offer wildlife but that’s another topic)
I came here assuming the end of the video would be the guy doing all the trimming and then just cut the fucker off at the root, needless to say, I am disappointed.
Boxwoods are the most boring landscaping plant, after grass, maybe third after Arborvitae? I see them go in, they get abused, and then die pretty regularly. They do smell a bit like cat urine to folks but I can tolerate it.
Likely there's at least a few native shrubs, likely evergreen, that would do better in your locale. And would actually support local insects.
I swear when I go to the barber every few months there are people who come in with short hair & absolutely no need for a haircut. They are super picky but leave looking practically the same (just 25 bucks poorer). I feel like guy is absolutely one of those weirdos.
is this an appropriate community to say fuck boxwoods
I literally came to the comments to say "fuck boxwoods" lol. I'm an arborist and about 20% of my calls are for boxwoods

Pesti
It looks better before the trim in my opinion.
They stink.
Oh, never noticed. I have noticed them house thousands of snails though
It’s the classic wanna be English lord bush

r/FuckBoxwoods
Haha. I fell for that.
Or be the change you want to see in this world.
This sub is just lazy.
Would be awesome and sophomoric if there were two of these flanking something columnar.
As long as the column remains safe and intact.
I mean, after all, a column is just a cylinder
A topiary neo armstrong cyclone jet armstrong cannon?
I had to google that shit. Kind of amazing. 🙏

I like when he jiggles it.
The bugs inside getting fucken wriggled around in there
there are no bugs, they cannot support any life
Is the tarp on the ground so it doesnt get itchy from all the trimmings?
The trimmings take a long time to degrade, so they don’t blend in well. It’s easier to gather them up and put them in compost elsewhere.
You might have missed the joke.
Looked better before the trim

This is what smelks like cat piss????? Ugh! I always wondered why do many people's house reeked.
I always hated them for being boring.. not a hate then for smelling horrible!
Is that where the smell of cat piss is coming from?! Oh FML. I already hated those damn hedges.
arborvitae isn't boring as long as it's in it's native range
I disagree with your observations. They do well in my area and can be used in a variety of ways. I like a more natural look, though.
Sphere, just like nature intended 🤣 I like that plant when it has more freedom of shape, but still it won't support local fauna.
It's pretty cool because it's a similar skill set.
This is precisely how I trim my own balls
Well, I’ve been trimming my balls wrong all along.
I bet his hands smell like cat pee after that.
Ugh I hate boxwoods. So stinky
Oddly sexy with the wobbling and arse slap....
Username checks out 😉
Hehe what can I say....
Everything reminds me of her
Fuck lawns …. But let’s show a video of some dude cutting a hedge on his or in front of his lawns
Show me a ballwood box and I'll be impressed
Haha I hate boxwoods too, they're so boring. BUT as a gardener for my job, I do love the satisfaction of getting them so absurdly spherical 😂
Jiggles just right
Me when I’ve got a date tomorrow
Jiggle it more.
You missed a spot.
Boxwoods are just lawn in 3D
Boxwoods make good bonsai.
I mean, I appreciate a good topiary.
Sure, but a sphere is about the most boring topiary you could make.
True, but it still takes skill and time and effort.
sphere
I was about to say might as well kill it now lol
Its called sheering fam

Hey Edward, pretty cool!
it looks fluffy!
Jiggle jiggle jiggle
It’s funny to me that buxus is an alternative to lawns. I mean, what has been gained from this exchange?
Boxwoods suck beyond belief. Too much maintenance. No benefit to the ecology in the yard being an exotic species.
"I never said you aren't good at what you do, just that what you do is not worth doing."
The slap and jiggle
WIGGINS!! Coming!
I would slap it each day when getting the mail. Those jiggle physics were unexpected.
Song?
Pretty!
