It's a sharp, slow turn for cars. It's likely that if she had been hit by a sedan or other normal-sized vehicle, she would still be alive.
Ban SUVs.
EDIT: Thinking more about the vehicle's direction of travel, she probably wouldn't have been struck at all if it was a sedan. I'd guess that the driver of the SUV didn't see her behind the driver's side A-pillar, which are much larger in SUVs and restrict visibility.
And the sad thing is, even with the high profile deaths of famous people, that every car-brained person will just think this is the way things are, like "that's unfortunate, it's just bad luck/driver." When all the orange-pilled, including myself, are screaming, "it doesn't have to be this way!" 😥. Its so frustrating...
Frustrating? It's infuriating. These are people we are talking about.
At this point car manufactures should be scrutinized as much as the driver (even though they usually get very leniant sentences) l in regards to the profound killing ability of modern vehicles.
When the Gaudreau brothers were killed, all everyone talked about was how the driver had a history of DUIs and aggressive driving charges, and not the fact that there was no proper bike infrastructure on the road they were riding on. Makes me so mad.
Yet another article about a car killing with ZERO information about the killer. Did they run? Did they cooperate with police? Were they DUI? Did they have a record of traffic violations? Did they have a valid license? Criminal record? Were there criminal charges?
In a New York City subreddit, a commenter said they saw it happen with their coworkers and had to chase down the driver, yelling for a block to get him to stop
Is it an "uncertainty of fault" kind of thing? Id imagine the police arent going to release anything until they feel confident they will move forward with charges.
It's her own fault for being so short. All people should be forced to wear high heels, sirens and emergency lights so our god given patriotic machines can safely drive 30 over the speed limit near schools.
Automobiles are designed only with the occupants inside in mind. No externalities ever considered. And they just keep getting bigger and more dangerous for everyone else.
big cars roll over more easily and have bigger blind spots. It's a marketing thing to get buyers to focus only on front-impacts. also, SUVS get hit by other SUVS, so the more SUVS the less safe SUVS passengers are.
I find it funny how every car accident related article portrays it as a tragedy but with ultimately nothing can be done, the driver is just a bad egg. If a cyclist gets a near miss or injures someone they’re immediately calling for regulations, and even removal of bike lanes (NYC) 😒
Don't necessarily need to ban SUVs, but I wish we could have pedestrian safety standards. Getting hit by a wedge is way more survivable than getting hit by a 5ft tall wall of a grill(ie. Escalade). For example, the Tesla Model Y wedge shape would mess up your legs, then windshield hit and possibly over the car, 2 separate less extreme impacts vs getting hit by a wall all at once and possibly getting run over.
Also, visibility is way better with a low hood height. Less children would be killed. It'd be nice to ban certain cars like Escalades from walkable cities. They're an obvious danger to anyone walking.
commute to a jerb i hate and errands all by myself WITHOUT 3 rows of empty seats behind me... and NOT be a PIA menace trying to park...? then YOUR life isn't wroth living. lol le sigh.
We especially need to ban these murderous self driving SUVs that just cruise around cities and strike pedestrians of their own accord. It's ludicrous that these things have been allowed to gain sentience and are given free reign of our streets.
If a person had been behind the wheel , we would have been able to ask for accountability. Instead, we have these monstrous tanks just springing to life and driving around hunting for their next victim. What can we do!?
From the description in the article, she was struck in this crosswalk, with the SUV coming from the right: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NetFqcQVevugEyQn9

ban is a reach in reality... but could we at least get drivers of multi ton vehicles to need CDL w/insurance?
let's reach and then settle, instead of settle and then settle for less.
👏👏👏 yes definitely. This is the energy we need to bring to the fight against cars.
Even compact hatchbacks from 10 years ago have far pillars for occupant safety you have to dart your head around to see around.

“Man killed by bullet” ass article.

The driver probably didn’t even get a ticket.

Pretty much anyone who drives an SUV in NYC is an asshole.

I wish it was where the heavier and largeness of a vehicle means more testing you have to take to operate
It’s wrong that I can rent an RV with just my regular drivers license
Ah, but was she wearing hi-viz? The crosswalk came out of nowhere!

Fuck drivers
So backwards how much cars dominate Manhattan

i lived many years of life without SUVS being the dominant mode of transportation and it looked fine. SUVS were invented just to guzzle gas.
I don't see what we'd lose if they all disappeared.
Nothing. We’d lose nothing.

take the deadliest cars out of people's hands
And let’s say if she was on a bike, they will blame her. That bike is dangerous.
