I'm so happy that I don't have a car. Is it kind of annoying to walk through the snow into town? Sure, but soooooo much better than digging out a car, driving through snowy streets, and navigating a half-plowed parking lot.
And as hippyish as it makes me feel, spending more time walking through the elements this year has made me appreciate the natural beauty of them much more. They've become less of an obstacle in the way of driving somewhere and just another aspect about the world to experience firsthand <3
People tell my girlfriend and I "you're lucky you don't have to drive". I remind them that nobody in our city has to drive.
I started taking transit one driving about a year and a half ago. I was curious if I would keep it up through the winter. I found during the first snow that, like you, i was super relieved i didn't have to worry about my car. I didn't have to scrape a widow, push my car, drive on ice, or any of it. I just walked to the bus stop and kept my life going.
I've always liked snow. Now that I don't have to drive I love it.
I had the same thought today! I had always thought I liked snow when I was a kid, and then didn't like it when I was an adult, but I realized that what I actually didn't like was driving in the snow. Now I think I like it again!
maaaaan I'm sooo envious -_- I've already put on the studded tires on my (bio-) fatbike but no snow in sight in munich :(
Does bio mean it is human-powered here? I was trying to think what an 'organic' bike means and had a brain fart for a moment, lol. Also, happy to switch! I decided I'd be a cool urban cyclist with a road bike... but now it's snowed ~43 cm in the past few weeks, and I don't think I've biked since early November. :(
yeah, sorry, we call it bio-bike in Germany - wanted to seperate from what people call a "fatbike" (those e-mopeds with 20" tires) 😅
nice for you to start cycling!
as for the snow:

Oh huh, I thought fatbike just meant any bike that had those huge tires. The more you know!
I feel annoyed enough at seeing those giant e-moped things in bike lanes sometimes, but in my city they'll often ride on the sidewalks as well...
Hope you get some nice winter snow soon!
Meanwhile here in my state where we rarely get snow, we get a burst of ecstasy over the tiniest amount of it.
Subway goes underground. I was early for work today 😂
It can be a safety concern, though, when there's ice on the sidewalks. But then in those situations, the roads for cars are hardly any safer. There are days when you should just stay home unless it's absolutely necessary for you to go out, and take every possible precaution if you do.
I've recently started taking night walks somewhat regularly. For dealing with the cold, the solution is to just put on more layers. However, on my walk last night, there were patches of ice on the sidewalks in some areas that made the walk much more dangerous than normal.
