Man, these HOA busybodies are soooo annoying.
I was riding my e-scooter slowly, like around 7 mph… coming back from a short ride and heading for the condo where I have been staying for weeks.
All of a sudden, this guy in a powered wheelchair that was riding on the side of street goes right in the middle and starts making some sign with his hand.
Thinking it was a friendly gesture from one e-rider to another, I give him a 🤙 yeah man, enjoy this great day!
He goes : This is private property!
I reply : I’m staying here.
He asks : Oh yeah? What building?
Me : <name of building>
Him : Oh yeah? Who are you staying with? Give me names?
I look at him like wtf dude? And I left and ignored him, entitled fool…
Then he yells : I’m going to call the police!
The funny thing is the place i’m staying at is on an island, i’m sure he waited a while by the bridge to try and catch me… He probably went back home and checked the cameras to see where I went…
Why can’t these HOA fools mind their own business?
So yeah, r/FuckHOA for sure. 💩
I'd ask him the same thing. "I need to see some ID before I let you roll away."
hahaha! right? 😂
That’s not even necessarily an HOA thing, just an old busybody. Should have challenged him to a race.
Why didn’t I think of that?
it's almost a variation on that scene in an old Woody Allen flick: Woody dreams he's lying on a crucifix, being carried down the street as in a funeral procession. As in, instead of old-country pallbearers hoisting a coffin on their shoulders, they're hoisting a huge crucifix. At an intersection, another "funeral crucifix" procession barges into his. The two processions start arguing about right-of-way, then it all degenerates into fisticuffs!
Would love to see two guys on E-scoots/motorized wheelchairs get into it, great imagery, lol!
He might have loved that!
"I'll tell you everything if you can beat me!"
Nyoooooom
This. OP needlessly blaming an HOA. This is probably just a nosy neighbor.
Isn't HOA the plural of Karen?
Eh, HOAs pretty much invented needless blaming. Turnabout is fair play.
REALLY???? These jerks were around LONG before HOAs existed. Everyone wants to blame the HOA for every idiotic moron that gives them grief.
That's why we come to this sub.
I generally tell them to mind their own business and go on with my own.
I usually laugh, then tell them they have no more power over me then a bug. Go away.
I'd never buy in an HOA and would only be passing thru.
Come after me Karen, I'm bored and need the fun.
I’m too polite for that usually, but I will have this answer ready the next time, for sure!
You can politely tell them to mind their own business.
Excuse me good sir, but I suggest that you take self fornication into consideration?
And I say to you, sir, good day.
May I also suggest using a 9kg fire extinguisher for the purpose?
Ja ja, sehr gut
A bag of chocolate dicks sent to the board might help.
I have been known to, when someone bellows they are calling the police, pull out my mobile, dial, and say, "Hello, I am at <address>, and there is someone here who says they need police to come out." Sometimes I am actually connected to the police non-emergency line, sometimes just my work voicemail.
My new neighbor was walking his dog and coming back home through his garage and the HOA lady a couple houses up says " Hey you this is private property " my neighbor looks at her and goes Lady I live here, she was so flustered she mumbled and went back inside
"No." "No, thank-you." "Not interested." "Sorry, my bullshit quota for today is full." "How about you feel free to go fuck off over there."
Tell them you're staying with his mom.
Oh man... the satisfaction! Somewhat insulting, but I am adding that to my arsenal... as a last resort lol
Comedy Gold right there ⬆️
Some people feel the need to instigate conflict for their own selfish egos and a sense of purpose. I work with someone like this that tries to throw their coworkers under the bus for the smallest petty things. Usually, these types are unhappy with their own lives for whatever reason.
He has a problem riding your battery powered vehicle whilst he riding around in his battery powered vehicle?
Many many many moons ago, I was living with my mother and we moved to a town house complex. Strata, not HOA, but similar in a lot of ways. It was winter when we moved there. In the spring, and being 13 at the time I wanted to explore my new home. So I explored and went in behind places on the property, but all common areas, never private areas. While I was exploring this olde ready yelled at me that I couldn’t be there and I needed to leave. So I just went back home, you know, the one right there in the same complex.
She did come and talk to my mother and apologized, didn’t realize I was a new neighbour.
Hey! This is a private residence...man!
That rug really tied the room together.
I keep a active police band app on my phone just for this. Take a photo, poke the app. And start to ask questions.
"Do you have a license to operate that wheelchair?"
“Come back with a warrant.” Is usually a good response to nosy fuckers.
Next time ask him for ID.
I would have demanded to see his license, registration and insurance. Then proceeded to tell to wait right there until the wrecker takes his wheels to impound.
how it would have gone if I was the OP:
idiot: "this is private property!"
I reply: " "
OP should have ignored him from the get-go. At least by the 3rd demand, the OP came to his/her senses and blew off the idiot.
What part of this has to do with HOA?
It has to do with fuxk this specific HOA, with their nosy members. And the fact that I was told that this was private property, which was pure stupidity since I have every right to ride slowly around the premises.
It would have been a different story if I was going 30 mph, but that wasn’t the case.
I avoid HOAs like the plague but sometimes you have no choice… and I hope you hate them too 😃
Wouldn't apply in a normal neighborhood where the roads are public.
Most HOAs roads are public.
That's what I was thinking is the roads are still public in most cases.
Outside of gated communities anyway. The people inside the gated ones can be like this which I'm guessing is the case here. Or similar since op mentioned an island.
Though would file this more under neighborhood watch gone wrong than hoa.
“Shut the fuck up”
Lump sum. Im canadian. I would 100% have a billion dollars. At least in my currency.
Next time do circles around him. Ask if he wants to race. Take pictures too !
My response to him would have been: “Bless Your Heart sir !”.
You forgot to add "little" in there, and said in a sickly sweet voice.
I’d probably crack up saying it that way but valid!
I could do it easily enough. But I might throw in a bit of the Wolfman Jack voice style, and maybe even a bit of the George Carlin body language style.
Sounds like he was a little over the top on this.
I kinda get it though. I live in condos with an HOA and we've had a huge number of thefts and property damage (particularly this year) so we've been watching the common areas more frequently. We discovered the kids who kept cutting up hoses and pulling up plants in the garden area, several nests for unhoused individuals, and cut chain link fencing leading to/from nearby properties.
I agree that HOAs can be overly intrusive, but they also have to deal with a bunch of issues I personally don't have to handle.
Back in the day old bored people would just have a conversation. Still trying to determine if you lived there just alot nicer about it. Wife and i walk around the blick and there is an old guy in a wheelchair who will be out working with his roses. He will stop and talk about anything. So happy for someone to talk to. Then there is the guy op meant.
If I'm using my typically polite language, I'll say the following, take an aerodynamically inclined procreational thrust at a laterally rotating toroidal pastry. The less polite and more crude way is to say "take a flying f at a rolling doughnut".
Its inconsiderate peeps that caused it. Not you.
Stand straight up, with a backbone. Look them in the eyes and say, "Good Day. I am visiting/staying at ####. How is your day going?" It shows you are secure, professional and classy. Peeps that are bent will straighten up real fast when face to face with someone who knows they are not looking to cause trouble.
Good vibes only.
It’s idiotic you’re getting downvoted for giving a positive way to engage people on this post that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with a HOA.
There have been two attempted break ins in my HOA community in recent weeks. Caught in Ring cameras, as was a teen snooping around this very evening.
Residents in every community have a right to be suspicious of strangers.
You're right, they have every right to be suspicious. And when they're nosy busybodies, they have every right to be told to fuck all the way off.
There are a lot of reasons that people I don't know might be in my neighborhood. I am not being a jackass to them.
Only reason I don't down vote is because you're technically correct. Just because you're an HOA nazi doesn't protect you from me telling you to go fuck yourself if you hassle me.
