Played through the demo myself and it's pretty janky IMO. I'd rather just play the original upscaled via something like DuckStation. You could even up the framerate with Lossless Scaling.
The game deserved a better remake. One could only imagine if it got the FF7R treatment.
Forever Entertainment has been a byword in the industry for cheap for many years. The managers there only care about profit, with no artistic intent allowed. The fact that Square chose them for the remasters was a goddamn crime.
saw a guy reviews the switch ports and a lot of the assets were improved by AI that makes the image looks weird and bland... its such a shame what they did to this masterpiece... i don't know if the pc version will make a difference or not but if its the same like the switch ports then i would rather replay the classic one using emulator...
There's one image in a newspaper that should have the FM1 prototype, a quadraped mech. It has a chopper instead because AI doesn't know what quadraped mechs are and the PS1 image resolution is ass.
There was also an artwork that had a dude drawn on. AI regenerated it as if it was a live action photo.
Dunno how many examples of this will be in the full game.
5 had fun gameplay but a very disconnected plot that only cares about callbacks to previous games. Also it had zero art of any of its Wanzers or characters, just the low res poly models of them. And I absolutely hated what they did with Emma
I mean there is very few pieces of art of the characters of the game or any other key art. Look at all the other Front Mission games, they even had the character faces actual hand drawn art when they spoke in game. FM5 doesn’t have that at all. I could only find art of Walter, Emma, and Lynn when I did a google search and had to scroll for a bit. Every character is rendered entirely in their 3D model which may have looked nice by 2005 standards but the lack of any other pieces of art for them makes them completely forgetful, immortalized them as lesser personalities than characters from every other Front Mission game. Hell, I thought Randy and Hector were the same character at times because they looked similar. Doing something small like creating hand drawn face sprites for the characters when they talk would have come a long way to making the characters more memorable but they didn’t do that.
which brings me to the other issue in that the game was more concerned with trying to tie up loose ends from every other Front Mission game that it forgot to focus on the main characters of this game and their stories. Essentially the Strike Wyverns were just used as the “cleanup crew” of hanging plot threads from other games. The main villain was basically a non presence. The only real main character related moments of Front Mission 5 is the friendship between Walter, Randy, and Glen and even that is a bit one-note. Apparently Walter is supposed to be a ladies man and that’s hardly touched on at all, I’m supposed to just go with it because that’s what the game wants me to assume. It does a lot of “this happens and then this happens and then that happens” type of storytelling, never once letting the characters and the plotline of Front Mission 5 be its own. Hell, even each arc is just a call back to a previous Front Mission game, except for a bunch of mission where you go to Cambodia several times just to chase someone and would have been complete filler if I didn’t actually enjoy the gameplay.
best part of FM5 were the fun combat scenarios, except the last quarter of the game which I didn’t enjoy at all. And the Survivor Simulator, I absolutely loved that.
We judge game by way different standarts. Its a game with fully rendered cutscenes, why would it have handrawn art? Characters and their story should make them memorable, bot the amount of art they have.
I eventually bought a Playstation + FM3 after loving it so much on the VGS (Virtual Game Station), so it's weird to see after 20+ years we finally get a native port
Got interested in the series and got the first yesterday and have been playing a few hours after reading these comments I dont think I'll play anymore totally killed my mood for it unfortunately
Dont buy before they make it right or have mod support

Is it just as much of a shameless port as the first two "not actually a remake-remake"?
I'm not falling for it a 3rd time.
It's worse. I fell for it 3 times. I won't buy a game with Forever Entertainment on it ever again.

Worse. The first two are decent remasters, just badly named. Esp for FM1 remake they had to turn it 3D from scratch.
This one is remastered with AI-generated art assets. They didn't really do the work.
Imagine if FM3 was turned into a game that shits on the franchise in the same way Evolved and Left Alive did.
Yes, that happened.
Evolved was alright for a PSP game…. Oh yeah. Alright.
It should have been a PSP/Vita game and not a main release… that’s how it looks and plays too

3 is the best
5 is, 3 is close second.

Hard disagree. It rather greatly incorporates other games events into its own since the game takes over many years.
Wdym zero art?

Animations look so stiff and lifeless. Suck cuz I love fm 3-5. Why couldn’t they do something like Mecharashi graphics/animations with fm stories?
Highly recommended playing the PS3 store version instead.
1080p, no load times, and most importantly no AI slop.

The best of all because we can choose between two paths, and within one of those paths, we can choose between other paths.
