Pickles got a bacterial infection and he's being quarantined + treated until he's all better. His antibacterial/antifungal medicine is not very appealing to him
He hasn't wanted bug bc of some gastric irritation & bleeding, but the medicine seems to be helping with that. Thankfully. No fresh blood since this morning
He's still got some mild gastric bleeding/mucus but vet thinks it's (relatively) normal for a bacterial infection at the stage we caught it at. It is decreasing every day though.
Poor Pickles. My frogs confirm, this is indeed Disgusting Medicine and when you accidentally go into food mode and eat it, you must not put your tongue away.
I’m guessing they’ve got fragile skin. And they’re so tiny…some meds go better given orally; they’ll make lumps and bumps under the skin which can then get irritated and cause another problem.
His medicine is grape flavored and surprisingly he's not even gagging on it once we get it in his mouth. Found that out yesterday when we gave his 2nd dose. He just accepts it and swallows it. Maybe he likes it? Lol
Huh. I don’t know if frogs can’t taste sweet, but they can definitely taste bitter. So maybe this is like the opposite of monarch butterfly?
I hope little man feels better soon.
EDIT: “As for sweet taste, research on gustatory transduction in taste cells demonstrated that the ability to detect sweet substances is present in frogs (Kusano & Sato, 1958; Toshihide et al., 1995”
That's interesting! Idk if it does taste sweet but at the very least, the taste isn't bothering him. I'm grateful for that because most "giving frogs medicine" situations result in the frog gagging and scraping it off their tongues
Well, with birds, you just give a little and let them swallow, then a little more and let them swallow. They’re very good at plugging the end of the syringe with their tongue. So I try to mix bitter meds with some fruit syrup thing.
Awe poor pickles :(
Have you tried the airplane/choo-choo method?
We got him with the ol' "squirt it directly down his gullet before he can even taste it" method
You don’t buzz buzz buzz it around in tempting circles?
Honestly my bunny had to be burrito wrapped and held by my sister so I could give him medicine....
This mfer was NOT HAVING IT.
To bad for him I WANTED HIM TO LIVE.
BRO was so mad about his great injustice I still sleep with 1 eye open😂
Lmaooo a perfect r/murderbuns story hahaha
Yeah he is a floof with 1 braincell and a dream besides that though ♥️
At least he has a dream. Hope it’s not world wide domination like my little parrot.
Oh no dw his dream is tax evasion
Typical politician.
Sweet Bebe please take your meds!
♫ A spoonful of bug makes the medicine go down ♫

Get well soon pickles!
Can you inject the medicine into a bug?
I’m guessing they’ve got fragile skin. And they’re so tiny…some meds go better given orally; they’ll make lumps and bumps under the skin which can then get irritated and cause another problem.
Get well soon, guy!
Poor baby
He’s so cute though, thanks for taking good care of him
Ugh
Poor little guy. I hope he feels better soon!
Makes you wonder-does herp medicine come in bug flavor?
His medicine is grape flavored and surprisingly he's not even gagging on it once we get it in his mouth. Found that out yesterday when we gave his 2nd dose. He just accepts it and swallows it. Maybe he likes it? Lol

And now we know the rest of the story.

Bug flavor doesn’t sound yummy to me.
He looks like he was made with a glitter gel pen
Aw, poor baby. Bacterial infections are never fun.
Pickles is an antivaxxer
In his mouth or on his back? I need to give some meds and food in my frogs mouth and I feel bad for just forcing his mouth open. Have any tips?
"But mother its icky :("
