Took in an odd banded bullfrog panicked over its skin condition. Spoiler alert: she’s literally just albino

You gonna keep her? Albinism is rough in the wild

Oh absolutely, she is from a pet store that didn’t know what to do with her and we are a small animal rescue in west Michigan lol

I believe this one is leucistic vs albino due to eye color, but either way it’ll have a rough time in the wild

That frogs eyes are definitely red

The eyes are very clearly red if you zoom in, but yes, either way they'd have trouble in the wild. If this was at a petstore though, it wouldn't have been wild caught. Banded bullfrogs are very easy to captive breed.

Thank you! Is there any difference in care regarding leucistic vs albino that you know of?

Keep out of direct sunlight. The lack of pigment leads to skin burns and more prone to skin cancers.

Albino = no pigmentation (usually red eyes) Leucistic = partial loss of pigmentation (usually blue or dark eyes).

Albino animals will typically have reduced eye sight and extreme light sensitivity. Leucistic are sensitive to the light, but they’re more akin to normally pigmented in terms of care. I have both leucistic and normally pigmented dwarf frogs and the care is the same.

Thank you very much! The only thing we were planning on doing differently was an enclosure in a darker corner than the rest of the creatures so hopefully that will be enough to cater to his or her special needs!
