Hi everyone!
Let's not create any suspense, we are making this post to announce that r/FrenchHelp is about to be shut down.
You may know it (or not), but this sub in maintained by some of the mods in r/French. The struggle we've been having with r/FrenchHelp is that we do not know how to make it different from the first sub. Originally this sub aimed to help mostly with the more "practical" French questions, such as homework help, contrary to r/French which welcomed more general questions. But as r/French grew and evolved, it started to welcome any kind of questions, including about homework (although we still ask that people give it a try by themselves first, we are not going to do all the work, that's the same rule here and there). As both subs' "areas of expertise" started to merge, and since r/French is a much bigger community, the relevance of r/FrenchHelp is now being questioned.
We just can't justify this sub's existence anymore. Pragmatically, we also currently don't have the resources (the time, mostly) to make r/frenchhelp relevant as a niche sub. That's why the sub will be shut down at the end of the week. It won't be entirely deleted though, we don't want to delete posts, questions and answers that could still help people in the future; but it won't be possible to post or comment anymore.
That's not a goodbye though; we are still maintaining a French learning community with r/French, just a door away. So from now on, if you have any French question, that's where you should go! Thanks a lot for having contributed to this community for years!
