Thank you so much to u/G_Washingtron for letting me rehome this Montblanc Corn Poppy Red!! I’ve been in search of the perfect red to use for my art since it’s one of the primary colors I utilize in the majority of my character designs. I also draw this character with red poppy flowers a lot so this makes me super happy.

I cannot wait to do a full painting with this!! Thank you again so much :D

  • Montblanc Corn Poppy Red could be classified as a grail ink, as it's been out of production for a number of years now, and is difficult to obtain. It's on my Inks of Interest list, as it is my opinion that it's a near-to-perfect true red ink. Enjoy.

Wait seriously!? I knew it was discontinued but I had a couple people message me willing to resell. Then again, it doesn’t surprise me since I saw the last sold eBay listing being over $200. I absolutely adore the red and it’s the type I use so much in my digital work so I’m extremely happy!! I’ll be trying to show some ink paintings with it hopefully soon!

I agree with them. I have a bottle and it's the best red in my opinion.

  • Love your drawing!

ps: Sheaffer Skrip Red also a great red if you need an alternative for an easier to get "true" red ink (and it's also quite affordable too).

Thank you!! And also thank you for the recommendation too. Especially when I run out of the ink! ❤️

Or.... you could get them.... to compare with Montblanc Corn Poppy Red XD

I've heard that Sheaffer Skrip Red is close enough to Corn Poppy Red or.... Diamine Matador might be close too. I have both Sheaffer Skrip Red and Diamine Matador, but I prefer Sheaffer Skrip Red since it feels very red kind of red compared to Diamine Matador.

Oh thank you for the ref!! I am actually kinda picky about reds LOL but I’ll check out swatches with them! I don’t use a LOT of ink since I paint rather small but the reference helps a lot!! I mostly use red for accenting! But I am grateful for the references everyone’s giving me :D

  • Oh wow! Now that’s a red! Great work!

Thank you so much!! I love red inks a lot and this is a top tier fav!!

  • VASSAGOOOOOOOOOOOOO(?) my eyes are blessed by your beautiful art and the beautiful ink!!

YES!!! That’s Vassago!! Thank you so much ahhh!! 😭❤️

  • My fav red

    I love it so much!!!

  • hi! Vintage collector here :) if you’re looking for red, maybe consider vintage Skrip? There are two colors you might like: 02 - Permanent Red, and 92 - Melon Red. Both are super pretty colors and affordable to find! I have a bunch of melon red if you would like a bottle of it. I don’t reach for red often enough to have more than one bottle of it

Ohh!! I have them a look and theyre just slightly on the pink-hue for my eyes sadly. I’ll need to see some more swatches of melon red since I’m looking for like.. a slight darker tone when leaning into red opposed to brighter :D

ahhhh I totally get that. honestly I saw that people were recommending red ink and I wanted to help out :D should you change your mind though, I think I have 2 - 3 bottles of Melon Red hanging out over here. I’m happy to share!

Oh I do appreciate it trust me!! It gives me more references es for the future :D I’ll def hit you up after I see more swatches and it fits with the way I need to work!

  • Beautiful art & that’s a great red!

    Thank you so much!! I’ll hopefully share more ink artwork soon!! ;_;

  • Could you do me a favor and take a photo of the sticker on the bottom of the bottle, or write down the code number? Thank you very much.

    Thank you!

What are the numbers for exactly? Is it like a lot number it was produced in?

    That's basically the color key.

The annoying thing is that Montblanc occasionally releases duplicates. For example, “Great Characters – James Dean,” “Scarlett Red,” and “The Legend of Zodiacs – The Tiger” all have the number 1820-N807 on the label, which means that all three inks are actually the same.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case at Montblanc, as “Petrol” is also identical to “Around the world in 80 days,” “Web Grey” is identical to “Starwalker Grey,” and “Homer Greek Blue” is identical to “Homage to Napoleon.”

This is good to know, I dont buy enough MB things to see they play games like Lamy does. Thx
