I'd invent a roll of duck tape that always breaks off halfway to the size you need. However, I'd make it so every so often it doesn't break so you always have that little hope it was just bad luck and it won't happen again.
How about if the tape strands broke every time you pulled on the tape edge? It drives me crazy when it just happens randomly
You finally give up and use a knife to cut into the roll, just to find out that every single layer is a complete circle connected to only itself.
