• This is the problem, far too many people appear to be just fine with being bigoted, selfish assholes who want to get rid of anyone different.

The question is, if they're completely unwilling to see things from a different perspective, and they’d rather view the rest of us as less than human, how the fuck do we get through to them and/or create any significant change for the betterment of all humans???

You don’t. These kinds of people cannot be reasoned with. They don’t want to make things better for everyone, as that would involve making things better for the people they hate. They care only about inflicting suffering on others

This is where I’m at, and it’s causing me to become incredibly cynical.
I have no idea how to have a conversation anymore without just getting angry.

You can't, because you can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into. All we can do is hold on to the reins of power, render these people irrelevant, post up the rules on how to participate in civil society again, and if they want to join in they can comply, otherwise they can go and live in a cabin in the woods and scream at clouds about 'woke' and nonsense conspiracy theories. If and when they want to rejoin us in reality, they can enjoy the UHC, higher wages, and better conditions we brought about in spite of them.

  • They somehow think nationalism is a positive thing. I assume they've never read a history book...or any book...

Ignorance of history is exactly it. Even a casual familiarity with how state religion has been used and continues to be used, to suppress individual rights (everyone’s, not just those not practicing the state religion) would demonstrate why the founding fathers wisely excluded religion from government. But I’m not even a little surprised that vast swaths of the American public don’t know jack shit about world history.

You can hardly be surprised that education is lacking, considering that's where we've been pushing since the beginning.

President Donald Trump says he is preparing an executive order to shutter the Department of Education. He talked about abolishing the department throughout his campaign. But this idea is hardly a new one: it has been a part of conservative Republican orthodoxy since 1980, when candidate Ronald Reagan promised to close the newly opened department.

But the idea of eliminating the Department of Education—and any federal control over education—is even older than that. The history goes back all the way to the Civil War and to America’s foundational struggle over slavery, citizenship, and federalism.

Also, note that the motivations are basically the same. Nothing ever changes...

    Does a menu count?

  • Mfw the taboo is attached to the signifier instead of the signified.

Same shit is happening with the words, "fascist" and "racist".

Spoilers, it's mostly christian nationalists, the fascists, and the racists doing it.

Hard to see daylight between those three these days…

    It's an academic exorcise.

Somewhere there is a very confused priest in a room full of equally confused students.

  • That's why we call you Nazis.

  • I prefer "Nationalist Christians" or "Nat-C's" for short.

  • "Now we can shoehorn any hateful totalitarian bullshit into the sanctity of our faith and everyone will have to go along with it under the guise of Religious Freedom!"

  • Did you hear that? We are called Christian nationalists now! Let’s celebrate that while we do and say the opposite of anything Christ ever said/use the government to force people to pray like we do in the name of religious freedom!

  • Can you be a Christian if you never read the Bible?

  • I don't think it's supposed to be a derogatory term. Just a term.
