If you tried to buy that box new it would scare the crap out of you. If you look at the face of the lock it will give the model number. I have the model 52 ( bigger and more drawers)I bought new in the later 1970s it sells for $2300 now. Your gift is in beautiful condition! Give that girl a great big hug!
Just watch on eBay. Do your research, be patient and eventually you can get a decent deal. I would go vintage rather than some knock off. Quarter sawn oak over anything else. My oldest boxes are my favorites, I would try to go older than the 70s.
Look into Fly Tyers Dungeon he has great material and amazing prices. Look at his clearance items while you're there. Thank me after you try his material.
That looks awesome! I've always wanted the real McCoy, but the $1k-2k list price for those just kept me away. I've had the HF version (now on sale for $75) for 15 years and there's not a thing wrong with it. I've packed up my tying gear in it and taken it to fly fishing events and vacations several times.
Boy that is nice! What model is that?
It’s a 1965 Gerstner & Sons machinists tool box not sure exactly what model

Beautiful! I’ve been using this one for my tying stuff for about 20 years.
Dayum, a Gerstner machinist box as a fly tying station?! That’s awesome!
We need a tour. I have a Kennedy machinist chest I’ve been thinking about doing list this
Where do I get one???
Apparently this brand in particular is quite hard to find but there are similar ones on Amazon and harbor freight
Not at all similar on harbour freight.
Fair enough I should’ve clarified similarities in looks won’t find the quality anywhere else
They are easy to get. They are available from any precision tool supply company.

Would be could to see additional pics of how you organized your materials in each drawer.
I checked the company’s website but could not spot this exact one (could have missed it. All beautiful pieces).
Yes, that is for 'YOU'...
That’s Awesome!!!
Orvis sold the Gerstners for many years. You can also buy a base section to add to the storage.
