What are the laws. How do you know if/where you can enter?
If the stream is deep or blocked, can you walk on the outside of the stream?
What do I do if someone approaches me and complains?
Also, where to park? I see a lot of places are next to a bridge or highway, and not a huge shoulder, so I didn't know of you can park there or how to do that? I see some cars off the highway so I didn't know if that's ok.
Im new so I'm trying to get a gameplay.

Depends on river/streams. They’ll be marked pretty clearly on maps/road signs typically. State parks will usually have big signage at entrances showing bike/fishing trails and regulations for body of water.
That being said, MN is pretty lax when it comes to stream rules. Most are open to public, just need license and trout stamp.
If streams blocked or deep, usually there’s trails along sides of bank. Can walk around on edges so long as there isn’t signage stating otherwise.
Somebody comes up and complains just hear em out and apologize if you’re in the wrong. They’ll more than likely understand if you say you’re just starting out and unfamiliar with area. Keep boots in water and an eye out for private prop signs. Should be fine.
Parking depends on area. Lot of places have pull outs by bridges that you can park at to enter stream. You’ll see tire tracks and paths. Usually will be signs if you can’t park there. If other cars are there fishing too you’ll be fine.
Super helpful. Thank you so much for this detailed posting.
Good luck fellow traveler. Brown trout and brookies to be found. Stocked rainbows as well. Little hidden gem the driftless is.
Sounds like mn laws are similar to wvs
This should help answer some questions
I like to use the TroutRoutes app. It shows all the easements on Minnesota streams, creeks, and rivers. The DNR site also has a stream finder feature that’ll show you the easements. Some easements have designated parking areas—these can be seen on TroutRoutes.
Amazing app. Thanks. There are a lot of streams that aren't designated as trout streams.. Are those worth checking out?
I can’t speak to those. I’m fairly new to trout fishing in SE MN and have only fished a handful of the designated trout streams.
