~ 2 months after announcing the closure of the Charlottesville, VA store, Orvis has decided to reopen the store!

I went by there this week and they had maybe 100 items of clothes left in the store for $19 each but said they were reopening Mid January!

  • That’s good news! I was unaware how lucky I was that there’s a store in my smaller town.

  • I was also told the Southlake store here in DFW was closing. I was getting dinner near by last weekend and it was still open

They are all supposed to close at the end of the month.

Got it! I was under the impression they were closing back around Thanksgiving. I’ll need to get in before

My local store’s last day is today. The manager said most stores are closing around the end of this month.

Today (Christmas Eve) is the last day they're open. There's a ton of 38x30 and 40x30 pants left for $19.

Welp there goes that idea lol

  • Virginia Beach location closing today. Glad I picked up fly fishing back in June. Andrew really helped me out a lot.

    Going to miss it.

  • Definitely not good news for the other fly shops in town. I wouldn’t be shocked if Orvis sells in the next couple of years to a new owner or PE.

There is only one shop in town and it’s been here for ages. Rumor is that Orvis originally targeted the market due to how good their sales were through that shop.

IMO it’s really hard to beat Orvis reels and waders and rod close outs (and return policy). However, IMO the top end Orvis rods are a step below the likes of Scott, Sage, Loomis, and even Douglas and I would never pay top dollar for one.

Yeah it was definitely a pretty ruthless move on their part. I wonder how much of their sales at Orvis weren’t clothing. With the catalog at Orvis changing drastically will the be able to sustain a business on a reduced catalog and only pushing Orvis gear. I can only imagine what their rent is over in stone field.

I wonder if they are splitting/shrinking the space.

They would almost have to. That is a massive space

  • I had not heard. Article I found.
