Yeah I drove through GA over three days and saw dozens of cops. For a while there was one every ten miles. I drove 6 hours into Florida and never saw a single cop.
Nope. When I was moving to Florida I was on I-75 north of Tampa and was going 90 mph, passed a cop car. He ignored me but then other cars were passing me. He eventually went after someone weaving in and out crossing lanes.
Typically, it’s small town cops and FHP that are assholes about speed limits.
I don’t mean “hey buddy you were going 15 over here’s a ticket.”
I mean the predatory riding super close to your bumper to make you uncomfortable and the second you nudge more than like 3 over, they light you up and are complete dicks about it.
I had a FHP pull me over and said I was doing 107 (I was speeding, but it was closer to 85) on the interstate, and was a dick about it the whole time.
The consistency in which I see FHP just cruising like 30 over the speed limit in town is crazy.
I’ve done the drive from Tallulah to Pinellas about a dozen times and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cop on 75 in FL unless there was an accident lol. In GA it’s every other overpass.
Florida has looots of cops on the road and hiding in some hard to spot places. I can't tell you what they're doing though because people regularly drive 20 over speed and they never get stopped. I was actually shocked the one time I got pulled over and given a warning for driving 60 in a 45. For months before I would drive that road and saw the cops chilling on the side street while traffic was going at 60
There’s a 35 near my dad’s house that had a cop parked there the first ten years I visited him, handing out tickets left and right. Everyone did 35. Five or so years ago suddenly there was never a cop there. Now everyone does 60.
I saw FHP in Madison county so the same. I dropped off from the back doing 95 mph when I saw him on the bridge. About 5 minutes later they had 4 FHP officers pulling over 7 people. I felt so lucky that day.
I'm travelling from Florida to the DC area and just drove through Georgia a little while ago. I saw about 10 State Troopers through Georgia, and 4 people pulled over. After the first one happened a few cars ahead of me I quickly moved to the middle lane and put the cruise control on 75, 3 car lengths gap 😂
Yes, the speed limit was 70mph most of the way through Georgia. It dropped to 65mph in some places, and adaptive cruise control (ACC) would slow me down to pace the car in front of me. I can also adjust the speed setting up/down1mph or 5mph with a toggle switch as needed. Like you said, 5 over seems to be the safe limit to push it to and that was the speed the pack was mostly going. My understanding is it's unofficial policy (or officer discretion) not to bother with 5-9 over, and 10+ makes one more of a target.
Agreed. I drive from Jacksonville to Atlanta every month and I never ever see cops on interstate 10 or 75. As soon as you cross into Georgia just south of Valdosta, you will see cops all the way through Tifton a stretch of like 80 miles where cops are literally in the median in the bushes and their favorite new tactic is shooting radar from the overpasses and the exit ramps. You will be guaranteed to see a minimum of a dozen every time in the first 80 miles heading north on I 75.
Was gonna say the same thing! GA state patrol are vicious out there, too. But tbh I don’t blame them, Georgia drivers aren’t “faster” than FL drivers, but they’re wayyyy more aggressive.
Years ago I got a ticket in GA, just across the SC line. Sent in my fine of ~$200. Then got another letter stating I owed $200 so called to say I already paid. Was told it’s a 2nd fine that goes to hospital burn units, intensive care, etc. So GA’s fine system can get very expensive. Only state where I’ve had a fine for things caused by accidents. I no longer speed in that state.
You can fly down that road if you want. I found out the hard way that FHP will sit under the oak trees across from the DG. They also sit in the median near the feed store. It mostly seems to be the commercial truck unit though, so unless you’re being egregious you’ll be okay.
I would never do this again, this was at a bad time in my life and I took a drive around the state on impulse cause I wanted to get away
But long stretch of I75 in the middle of nowhere, no cars around and in the HOV lane, going 100mph+. Unsafe, yes. Fun, also yes.
I made it from Palm Beach County to the Gulf Coast, to the Panhandle, then crossed to the Atlantic side, then took 95 straight back down. Drove 6 hours there and I think 7 hours back. Probably the longest I've driven in one day.
Same when I took a trip to the Everglades down Alligator Alley. EVERYONE was going 90+ mph.
I swear last time I drove that stretch, I was in an Acura doing 100. This man in a semi, fully loaded with 2x4s, was keeping pace with me and eventually passed me. I wasn’t even mad, just shocked.
I hadn't driven a car in like 8 years and at all for 5. Got a car, three days later I drive from Fort Myers to the Cape. 75 was nuts i was going 90 in the right lane. i4 sucks still and 528 was back to cruise at 90 to make sure I accidentally hit super speeder, and then you get the slower area when it's road and people are still going 85 in the 55.
Last month drove to Miami, was Cruise control 90 all of 75 (wasn't a weekday) the ally, and then the second you pass the toll both on the other side boom needed both hands on the wheel and traffic, but still at crazy speeds.
Last time i drove up to Atlanta, i was doing 90+ on 75 and was being passed.
Most of us slowed down as soon as we crossed the border. The few that didn't, made their contributions to the Georgia coffers as the fleet of GA state troopers pulled them all over.
Sounds like the average first road trip up 75 experience for those who didn’t slow down. GA state police don’t mess around when they see that Florida plate
Not true, clearly you don't know what you're talking about.
:edit: for others, get a quality radar detector. The entire point is to detect radar from far away where either police leave the radar on (usually the case) or clock a car in front of you. In a flat area like GA and FL, you are alerted MILES ahead of time. It's far enough out that the bigger risk is ignoring an alert because you think it's a false. Detectors do not eliminate the need to drive defensively - always scan for police, slow down before cresting hills, run waze, etc. They also won't help for laser but there are countermeasures for laser as well, including jamming which is legal. And before anyone mentions it, no POP - commonly referred to as "instant on," can't be used to write tickets. Don't drive like a jackass and drive a common, nondescript vehicle and you'll never have problems even rolling properly fast.
Good idea. The only time I ever had to go to court was for a ticket in Georgia when I was 18. Car full of friends, driving back from a crazy hippie concert in the woods up in Athens the night before, feeling no pain on a Sunday afternoon. I guess i was feeling a little too free because i got pulled over near Waycross going 94 in a 65. Which is bad, i know, but you would have thought my friends are i were trafficking cocaine while shooting machine guns out of all 4 windows. This trooper wanted sooo badly to find some drugs on us but when he couldn't (somehow) he threw the whole damn ticketbook at me.
Had to hire a local attorney, take time off work in Jacksonville and come up for a criminal courtdate a month or two later in Ware County. It was horrifying, especially after the kid whose case was called before me, also with a traffic case, was sentenced to 11 months in jail. I almost shit myself. I got let off with a huge fine but have never been so reckless again, in Georgia anyway, since lol
Depends on the area. Beware Orlando speed limits, school zones, and Aventura traffics cams. Most everywhere else is safe 10 over the limit or more depending.
That said being a defensive driver is the only way you're going to survive accident free in the long term down here.
Aventura traffic cams keep me up at night. Never been ticketed but driving on Biscayne any day you’ll see 5+ camera flashes. The revenue from those must be pretty good.
I will happily go 85 on any stretch on interstate in Florida… except Madison Co. I be dammed if you’ll catch me going over 75 with those FHP officers and sheriff’s deputies. They are too quick to pull someone over.
As you go further back in time, yeah they used to much more. I still see some being pulled over for speeding, but I'd say left lane blockers should be a bigger priority now.
Florida state cops are the biggest hypocrites when it comes to enforcing a speed law.
I will say this; be careful speeding in Florida because going 30 over the posted limit will be a felony charge.
Yea, all these people bragging about speeding have just been lucky so far. A $300 speeding ticket sucks and now that it can be a felony, I wouldn't be fucking around at all.
GA has the wildest reputation tbh. Driving 95 recently I saw no less than a dozen troopers with pulled over cars in my first hour in GA. Absolutely wild.
Night my 1st son was born I was in Tampa and he was being born in Lauderdale. I thought I’d have enough warning to get there but I drove my Viper just in case. Got a call late that they took to long to go to the hospital and he was coming soon.
Made the 4.5hr drive in 2.5hrs. Never saw a cop. Did put down a new c8 vette on a run from 120-175. Felt bad for the guy with a brand new car getting beat by an old ass dodge.
I cant get them to pull people over for doing 50 in a 25 down my street but guess who got pulled over and given a warning over a license plate frame (that is 100% compliant) the other day .....
Got my fist ticket in Hoboken GA, in a speed trap. Was not speeding but it was hell of a problem to get thru the process. Was not from there and I think it was a set up. I know it was because I was not going the speed limit, I was way under. Cost me a fortune too. And ill never drive thru that crooked jazz town again.
GA enforces speed limits far more than FL.
Its not even close.
Yeah I drove through GA over three days and saw dozens of cops. For a while there was one every ten miles. I drove 6 hours into Florida and never saw a single cop.
Florida has lots of undercovers, even ones that are seized cars. You didn't see them, but they saw you
They don’t seem to be enforcing many of the road rules.

In Virginia I got pulled over by a cop in like a teal 98 neon with dents. Couldn't even be mad.
How long ago was this?
Had this exact same experience a few months ago driving from NC back to Pinellas. It's absolutely true
I’ve done the drive from Tallulah to Pinellas about a dozen times and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cop on 75 in FL unless there was an accident lol. In GA it’s every other overpass.

They're too busy making sure nobody draws rainbows on crosswalks with chalk.
I drove from NYC to Florida last year and only saw police in GA. All troopers.
half of the highway chase videos on youtube are from GA
And the other half are Arkansas and BOTH will run you off the road into an orphanage for stray kittens if it means you’ll stop.
Georgia loves to have state troopers on overpasses to clock your speed and report it to a state trooper on the highway to pull you over
I saw FHP in Madison county so the same. I dropped off from the back doing 95 mph when I saw him on the bridge. About 5 minutes later they had 4 FHP officers pulling over 7 people. I felt so lucky that day.
I’ve never gotten a ticket in 20+ years in Florida for speeding. I’ve driven through Georgia a handful of times and have 3 tickets to show for it.
I'm travelling from Florida to the DC area and just drove through Georgia a little while ago. I saw about 10 State Troopers through Georgia, and 4 people pulled over. I got my first and only speeding ticket in GA. I've driven in all but four states in this country.
Agreed. I drive from Jacksonville to Atlanta every month and I never ever see cops on interstate 10 or 75. The amount of GA officers right across the GA line is crazy.
In their shitty ass Broncos blue and orange stick figure lettering, no less.
Like "Local Middle School proud to have designed State Patrol cars artwork"
Was gonna say the same thing! GA state patrol are vicious out there, too. But tbh I don’t blame them, Georgia drivers aren’t “faster” than FL drivers, but they’re wayyyy more aggressive.

Yes, as soon as I entered Georgia everyone started going about the speed limit, it was noticeable for me as I match the speed limit unless passing.
Unless you are going from GA to Tallahassee.
319
Havana FL has entered the chat; that’ll be a $75 fine.
You can fly down that road if you want. I found out the hard way that FHP will sit under the oak trees across from the DG. They also sit in the median near the feed store. It mostly seems to be the commercial truck unit though, so unless you’re being egregious you’ll be okay.
Hahehah jijj
It's an old sign. The question mark at the end has faded away.
🤣🤣🤣
No we don’t lol
I would never do this again, this was at a bad time in my life and I took a drive around the state on impulse cause I wanted to get away

You can also pretty consistently see almost every car pushing 90 mph on that stretch of the turnpike with no exits between Ft Pierce and Kissimmee
There is an exit between Ft. Pierce and Kissimmee, and it's at Yeehaw Junction.
I swear last time I drove that stretch, I was in an Acura doing 100. This man in a semi, fully loaded with 2x4s, was keeping pace with me and eventually passed me. I wasn’t even mad, just shocked.

I think it’s the opposite, I see many more cops on the GA side
As a life long Florida Man I don’t fuck around in Georgia.
Also a life long Florida man. I drive 90 through Florida up 75 or 95. The moment I hit Georgia I’m going 2-3 over until I’m free of that hellscape
Last time i drove up to Atlanta, i was doing 90+ on 75 and was being passed.
Most of us slowed down as soon as we crossed the border. The few that didn't, made their contributions to the Georgia coffers as the fleet of GA state troopers pulled them all over.

Get a radar detector
Doesn't do shit when they hold the radar until you pass
Not true, clearly you don't know what you're talking about.

You're clearly ignorant of modern equipment

Only when you’re traveling east/west*
Free to haul ass!
Maybe northern Florida …not so much South Florida. I won’t speed through north Florida/South Georgia
I will happily go 85 on any stretch on interstate in Florida… except Madison Co. I be dammed if you’ll catch me going over 75 with those FHP officers and sheriff’s deputies. They are too quick to pull someone over.
But do they?
There are like 8 jokes there & Florida is only three.
I thought you were talking about the Welcome to the Free State of Florida sign. Always makes me laugh.
lol... Not on I-95 they don't
My last drive from SWFL to TN, I drove over 90 up I-75 until I hit GA. 65 until I got near Atlanta.
GSP doesn’t F around on I75. Neither do the county boys south of Macon.
We don't lahk you boys speedin' through ar town, in your best southern drawl
I once got pulled over for doing 79 in a 70 on I4. The only thing more shocking to happen to me that day was getting let off with a warning.
Just steer clear of Starke. It's a speed trap disguised as a town.
You're thinking of Lawtey
If only FL would enforce people randomly cruising in the left lane
Hear hear
As you go further back in time, yeah they used to much more. I still see some being pulled over for speeding, but I'd say left lane blockers should be a bigger priority now.

That’s hilarious! Since when? 🤣
Never seen more cops with radar guns in my life then when I crossed from Florida into Georgia on 95
It’s called a state line
Shots fired!
It should be the other way around. Do not fuck with GSP
if you're black or brown
In fine print on the bottom
Jokes on them, good luck going even 20 below the speed limit near the Vineland outlets.
I fear Georgia State Patrol far more than FHP
Not sure why everyone down here has that Nascar driver fantasy. Stupid.
GA has the wildest reputation tbh. Driving 95 recently I saw no less than a dozen troopers with pulled over cars in my first hour in GA. Absolutely wild.
They do. It’s just that we’re all vibing with the roads like a bunch of high schoolers
Eight is great but nine and your mine
Night my 1st son was born I was in Tampa and he was being born in Lauderdale. I thought I’d have enough warning to get there but I drove my Viper just in case. Got a call late that they took to long to go to the hospital and he was coming soon. Made the 4.5hr drive in 2.5hrs. Never saw a cop. Did put down a new c8 vette on a run from 120-175. Felt bad for the guy with a brand new car getting beat by an old ass dodge.
lmao this is wild as hell because 1) it's absolutely not true, and 2) GHP hands tickets out for fun
More of a warning towards "the right people." My 65 year old neighbor says they get pulled over 3-4 times a year. Spoiler Alert: They're black.
I don't get it. Florida has that law where if you drive 100mph or more... Or go 30 over the speed limit you go to jail for 30 days.
I think there are .surely
I am from GA. My “anti-cops” tools aren’t needed in FL while they are MANDATORY in GA 🤦♂️
Georgia and Louisiana are two states I wouldn't speed in. Florida... meh, I speed all the time here.
My friend who got a ticket for 76 in a 70 on I-10 will agree with this sign 😭
Yeah right, drove from Florida to ATL to visit my sis and when we got into GA there were Georgia state patrol everywhere AND them MFs had hellcats
You read that right GSP has hellcats LOL
In Florida I actually had a friend get pulled over for driving under the speed limit
Is this after the sign that says "now entering the free state of Florida"? 🤣
Yup! Another side splitter.
I cant get them to pull people over for doing 50 in a 25 down my street but guess who got pulled over and given a warning over a license plate frame (that is 100% compliant) the other day .....
Only at the speed traps baby. Everyone in Tampa is 10mph over, all the time everyday. Especially the cops
I rode Hayabusas for years here in FL. The only two tickets I got were for license tag mounting BS 😁
Over 700,000 speeding tickets are written in Florida per year.
What's Georgia got?
According to online search 40 million speeding tickets.
So everyone in Georgia gets 3 speeding tickets a year?
I don't think so. Georgia would be lucky to break 200,000.
I think you are looking at the entire US.
Atlanta makes 74% of its revenue through speeding tickets
You make 92% of your facts from horse dung
Where did you hear that?
The budget for Atlanta is online, and by far the majority of revenue is from property taxes, sales taxes, and permits/licensing.
Traffic fines are under 2 percent.
https://civicatlanta.org/blog/coa-budget-fy2025
I think traffic enforcement in this state is adequate
I would much rather get speeding tickets and insurance increases!
Is that road still closed to through traffic?
