Honestly? Best bait and switch ever. The initial cutscene where she’s introduced has you believe that she’s gonna be this intimidating, no nonsense adversary, but once you recruit her, she turns out to be laughably pathetic in the best way possible. All of her supports are some of the funniest writing I’ve experienced in a game.
You see that into cutscene and you're like 😳 until you recruit her and realize she probably rehearsed that introduction like 100 times and she was incredibly nervous to deliver it 🤣
The best part is that while she is a terrible singer her english VA is clasically trained and pretty good, must've been torture to pretend to be so bad lmao.
I love her conversation with Panette wherein she calmly describes her facade of calm and control slowly coming apart, until it breaks all at once and she runs away screaming.
I really like her and her design. She's also a blast to use gameplay wise because I enjoyed using Maligs in Fates. I frequently give her the ring near the end of the game
In a cast that mostly ranges from meh to bad, Ivy really stands out. She’s the only one of the royals who really justifies her inability to die by consistently having something of value to offer as well as having a unique perspective. Also helps that she’s just quite likeable and endearing from her supports and boss conversations, while her quirks of being down bad for Alear and being afraid of ghosts which normally would be an entire characters shtick are kept as just that, quirks. On the whole, she’s one of the most human feeling characters in engage while also being super fun and great as a unit.
tho, ngl I really don’t like her design, besides the fact she’s hot it’s one I’m not really a fan of.
I said mostly, Yunaka is a really great one as well to be sure. Off the top of my head, the top dogs as far as characters in engage go are Ivy, diamant, fogado, pandreo, panette, Yunaka, Chloe, and Merrin. There’s a couple of other good ones but those are the definite stand outs imo.
Think engage has the same issue as awakening and fates where it feels like the characters are interesting and compelling only when they want to be, and in engages case it feels quite infrequent a lot of the time when the game gets serious in supports.
She's fun, it was nice to see a more goofy side of her in some Support Conversations, but unfortunately like most characters in Engage she is very quickly sidelined in the main story and thus a wasted character.
She’s a pretty good character and one of the standouts of the cast. The way they built up to her joining you was well done and she’s one of the only characters who feels connected to the world of Elyos. I also really like her voice acting
I will say I don’t find her particularly funny. Like the ghost stuff and Alear obsession (but it’s only really a problem in heroes, it’s well done in Engage). Her dry humor is funny but the rest I’m just kinda neutral on. But that doesn’t take away from all the good parts of her
Normally i am all for non-tank magical characters that lean into form over function when it fits their character and I'm fine with Ivy having melodramatic femme fatale vibes. But with that said, her spike locations totally send me. Pointed cloth cap sleeves or draping cuffs could have sent a lot of the same messages and standard issue anime waif is exactly the sort of build that prevents it from being unflattering.
One of the few Chars which has a depth to their personality. Overall great supports. Genuinely one of my fave engage chars. I'll add, great gameplay also.
Horrible outfit design though. Especially the head thing
Great character, one of the few ones from Engage that I can say about them.
My only issue with her design is that I find her still oversexualised, not to the level of Fates and Camilla, and she doesn't look like a princess from a cold kingdom
She didn't leave much of an impression on me at first, but then on a future playthrough using units I never used before she grew on me as a character and in gameplay. Didn't become a favorite, but still appreciate her more now
In the trailers, she gave off something like a Camillia vibe so I was like great another strong, dominating, mommy character. I was pleasantly surprised tho in her supports she was a lot different basically acting perfect since she is the eldest daughter on the surface, but also being clumsy and caring which I enjoyed. Overall yeah one of my favorites from this cast as well. Plus the interactions with Alear will never not be funny if you know, you know lol
Not fan of the design. Has a monopoly on lyn since she needs speed fixing. OP personal class.
She really shouldn't just get physic rank for free. One of the things about older games is that when promote your mages, while they got good magic stat (compared to your clerics) its counter balanced by the fact they are stuck with heal/mend for a good while.
Staff rank for free is OP she is basically a flying pent.
One of my fave Engage units. They could’ve fumbled with a Camilla 2.0 attempt and crushed it instead. She’s so quirky and likable while also being hot af.
Im actually very glad they subverted what everyone thought was going to be her characterization and she’s one of my favorite as a result (that and her voice)
love how she came in full with violence, setting things on fire and smirking in the CG animated scene, only to immediately go to "Ah, war... so tragic, so wasteful... ahhh how gloomy and sad I feel over what happened to my kingdom."
Then the Xenologue came out and the Xenologue version was literally just what people expected Ivy to be lmao.
She's good but she died in every battle I brought her in. I like her character, her design, her playstyle, and her voice actress, Reba Buhr, but archers shot her down constantly. If she was more reliable she probably would of been the one I gave the pact ring to, but since she wasn't I gave it to Chloé, who with Byleth was super useful and won me many key battles.
She was far more entertaining than I expected her to be. Her supports are hillarious, shoutout to the ones with Alfred, Timerra and Panette in particular. Reba Buhr having to try and sing badly will always crack me up.
She's wonderful! Love her voice acting and the writing for her dialogue is top notch hilarious and also touching. She's also my wife but that's besides the point. Just a great character with so much depth and she's a dork! Also best class in the game fight me.
I like her well enough. The idea of worshipping the Divine Dragon, initially as teenage rebellion in a culture that worships the Fell Dragon is a really interesting one, and she's the singular character for whom "Alear is literally God" actually works for me as a justification for the Avatar-worship. Watching her become more openly able to express her worship after hiding what was presumably an executable offense was fun, and provided a rare glimpse into some actual interesting worldbuilding into Elyos, and it's a shame that no one actually goes into what Fell Dragon worship actually entails, or why it appeals to an entire country, or how Ivy practiced her faith in secret and what that looked like, or how her family or people feel about it. Like a lot of things in Engage, it's really close to being really good.
Honestly, the fascinator in tandem with the ribbons makes the design for me. Without it, if her hairstyle were the same, I'd be way too distracted by how much I hate that her hair is longer in the front than the back.
While definitely Camilla adjacent, she's different in just about every way.
As a unit, I think she's quite interesting. She's got a very strong kit if you want to invest in her to make her truly outstanding, or you can go low investment and get a flying Sage. It really depends on where you take her with Emblems, Engraves and Skills. Quite interesting.
As a character, I quite like her too. Quiet and reserved, over a layer of a person whose not QUITE as in control as she puts on. She is warm and kind, and her occasional off-moment does not change that she could make a good Queen.
Surprisingly good character. Now I just need someone to mod the spikes off her backhands.
Genuinely one of my favorite female characters in the franchise. I absolutely love the bait and switch they pulled with her and I’m a huge sucker for girlfail characters. Playing as female Alear also makes her a disaster lesbian, which just makes things funnier.
Girlfailure Queen. Objectively the best royal in the game. Love her color scheme. There is a non-zero chance she has tried to do some sick wyvern tricks that have ended with her falling off and being very grateful no one was around to see that. But Zelkov saw it.
Also she's really good as a unit even if I can't figure out what emblem to give her.
Recently replaying Engage to show it to a friend (she doesn’t have a Switch, thought I’d show it to her cuz it’s one of my fave games ever!) and I confidently say she retains her Top 10 spot from my previous two playthroughs still
Good bait and switch from first appearance to recruitment, great supports and characterization, excellent voice performance (in English and Japanese), and just a great unit overall (first time I stuck with keeping Emblem Lyn on her too, and she did great). A bit of a lesser thing too- but I just really love her color palette, as an artist it is just very yummy to the eye 💜
On the battlefield, she's basically a fighter jet. She can melt through enemies and has enough movement range to be able to attack from just the right point. The only flying unit I found to be more powerful than her was Wyvern Knight Alfred (I reclassed him).
As a character, she's certainly one of the better ones in Engage. She's one of the few characters to actively interact with the fact that Alear is functionally a god and their supports are some of the best in the game. With other characters, she's still pretty good but I think my big problem is she still only just feels like a whole character. It's just another case of Engage's god awful character writing. If you compared Ivy to many of the characters from 3 houses or even Fates, she'd unfortunately come up short. For Engage though, a welcome breath of fresh air so I can't really hate.
I’m gonna get hate for this but I never understood the hype for Ivy, I don’t hate her or even dislike her I’m just personally not wild about her
which is shocking because I usually love girlfailures and I also love girls with purple hair, so you would think I’d adore a character that is both of those things but… I just don’t
Yeah I don't really care about Fell Ivy's story, but I love her evil bitch personality. When she was first revealed in Brodia, that's what I was expecting and while I don't hate what we got, I kinda would've preferred the other option
Did she really have any screen time? I haven't played the FX since it was released (and I don't think I'd rewatch the cutscenes if I ever played it again) but all I remember is her saying she slept with Kagetsu and Zelkov
Meh. The engage cast is so hollow and flat compared to 3H, which would be fine if this game didn't come directly after it. She has a nice design though, ig.
Like engages story. She wasn’t that impressive. Sure she’s cute if it wasn’t for that stupid thing on her face. But I couldn’t really rock with her. Minus her conversation with Diamount
Terrible design. Never used her as a unit but I heard she's really good. Never bothered to use her or her sister because their designs sucked she I found them very annoying.
I love Camilla, i love her subverted emotional trauma... Ivy is better Camilla in every way. She's not hyper sexualized, she's incredibly likeable even as an antagonist, she's funny as hell, peak design including weird hat thing, insanely awkward both socially and privately.
I love her. She quickly became my favorite Engage character and I think she's now my favorite character in the whole franchise. I like that so many characters in Engage have kind of like a bait-and-switch intro, but they absolutely nailed it with her. They set her up as a Camilla, or even a Ursula/Petrine/Aversa type character. But she ends up being this absolutely adorable fail of a woman. Top it with a great design and FANTASTIC work from his English VA, and you get one of the best characters ever.
I was expecting a retread of Camilla, but was pleasantly surprised.
Same and I love her for it.
Hey, if anyone knows what bad singing sounds like, it’s a professional.
Good unit, hot chick, I like her a lot.
She’s pathetic and I love her for it
Favorite failgirl
At first I dreaded what they were gonna do with her from the trailers, but when I found out she's just an introverted dork I knew we had a winner.
I love how Royal her personality is, and it’s no doubt helped by Reba Buhr’s great performance.
I mean there's so many good VAs in this game, but her voice acting is one of the highlights of the game for me.
...the doodad drawer?
I love her conversation with Panette wherein she calmly describes her facade of calm and control slowly coming apart, until it breaks all at once and she runs away screaming.
wife
"I love you"
"Huh?"
Imposing on first impression, but she's a delightfully awkward person. Love me a good girlfail.
Baddie
She and Pannette are my favorites
She's my favorite.
Of the many issues I have with Engage, Ivy is not one of them. One of the better things about the game for sure.
I really like her and her design. She's also a blast to use gameplay wise because I enjoyed using Maligs in Fates. I frequently give her the ring near the end of the game

tho, ngl I really don’t like her design, besides the fact she’s hot it’s one I’m not really a fan of.
“a cast that mostly ranges from meh to bad”
what about yunaka?
I said mostly, Yunaka is a really great one as well to be sure. Off the top of my head, the top dogs as far as characters in engage go are Ivy, diamant, fogado, pandreo, panette, Yunaka, Chloe, and Merrin. There’s a couple of other good ones but those are the definite stand outs imo.
Think engage has the same issue as awakening and fates where it feels like the characters are interesting and compelling only when they want to be, and in engages case it feels quite infrequent a lot of the time when the game gets serious in supports.
great gowns, beautiful gowns
I understood the Aretha reference
She's fun, it was nice to see a more goofy side of her in some Support Conversations, but unfortunately like most characters in Engage she is very quickly sidelined in the main story and thus a wasted character.
Her fear of ghosts despite her demeanor was probably the best reveal of her personality.
I think I viewed her in a favorable way.
I like her hat thing
She’s a pretty good character and one of the standouts of the cast. The way they built up to her joining you was well done and she’s one of the only characters who feels connected to the world of Elyos. I also really like her voice acting
I will say I don’t find her particularly funny. Like the ghost stuff and Alear obsession (but it’s only really a problem in heroes, it’s well done in Engage). Her dry humor is funny but the rest I’m just kinda neutral on. But that doesn’t take away from all the good parts of her
I like her hip movement
From a character design perspective, sort of encapsulates how busy the designs are in general in Engage and why I personally dislike most of them.
She comes closer than most engage characters to not causing me physical pain.
No one else? I find her dull as hell, she exists to be wife bait and that's it. Read the comments -- I'm right :/
Her sister is way more interesting.
She's my favorite goth failgirl rep, I feel seen.
Honestly elusia as a nation and its characters are the best part of engage's story
Expected Camila 2, got Tharja but Sane. She was great though not my favorite member of the Engage cast.
What the hell is that thing on her face?
A "fascinator"
Brits wear them to tea
So Brits wear them 24/7
Goals
One of the few Chars which has a depth to their personality. Overall great supports. Genuinely one of my fave engage chars. I'll add, great gameplay also.
Horrible outfit design though. Especially the head thing

My only issue with her design is that I find her still oversexualised, not to the level of Fates and Camilla, and she doesn't look like a princess from a cold kingdom
Imo, a better version of Camilla(which I know isn’t saying much)
Engage is so full of dorks that I ended up being drawn to the ones that were less so
Very pleasant surprise personality wise, but her spikes and waffle iron really need to go.
pathetic gay ass girlfailure, I love her so much
She's fine, wanted to like her more but that's all she's gonna get from me
Shes ok I guess
I have no strong feelings either way
She didn't leave much of an impression on me at first, but then on a future playthrough using units I never used before she grew on me as a character and in gameplay. Didn't become a favorite, but still appreciate her more now
Fun personality, very cute face & voice work, hate her hat.
I wish I could love her as much as she deserves, but her fuckin face grill makes me wanna bench her everytime.
Plus the interactions with Alear will never not be funny if you know, you know lol
babe-alicious
Camilla but scared of ghosts
She’s one of my top 5, super strong and almost never falls in battle for me.
Not fan of the design. Has a monopoly on lyn since she needs speed fixing. OP personal class.

One of my fave Engage units. They could’ve fumbled with a Camilla 2.0 attempt and crushed it instead. She’s so quirky and likable while also being hot af.
So cute.
Also, I missed a 99% attack with her once.
Im actually very glad they subverted what everyone thought was going to be her characterization and she’s one of my favorite as a result (that and her voice)

She cool
Great unit, loveable, unexpected personality that clashes with her design in a great way
She was far more entertaining than I expected her to be. Her supports are hillarious, shoutout to the ones with Alfred, Timerra and Panette in particular. Reba Buhr having to try and sing badly will always crack me up.
I expected her to be eyeroll-y waifubait and ended up actually really liking the character. Her repeated CYL losses are pretty funny though
A solid character
She was Cool.
My initial fave from Engage. Now she’s part of my four horsewomen of Engage Hot Girls with Timerra, Goldmary and Yunaka.
Honestly think she is one of the best written characters in Engage, ngl.
On maddening she also was one of my best units, hit like a truck.
Best girl
Love at first sight for her design, grew on me further once she started opening up 🥰
She's wonderful! Love her voice acting and the writing for her dialogue is top notch hilarious and also touching. She's also my wife but that's besides the point. Just a great character with so much depth and she's a dork! Also best class in the game fight me.

Like a lot of things in Engage, it's really close to being really good.
Also, I need to know who decided that "afraid of ghosts" should be a key character trait.
Fell worship isn't done well in Engage or Awakening it just seems like an excuse for evil cults
Big baby. Let the divine dragon pet her head and hug her. My beloved. Goated
Honestly, the fascinator in tandem with the ribbons makes the design for me. Without it, if her hairstyle were the same, I'd be way too distracted by how much I hate that her hair is longer in the front than the back.

her being scared of ghosts is so adorable

nice hat
She’s my Best Girl!
Fantastic unit, and I love her personality. After an intimidating boss intro you realize she is extremely nervous and an adorable Girl Failure.
Some of the best supports in the game imo. I Absolutely Ship her with Alear.
Girlfailure Queen. Objectively the best royal in the game. Love her color scheme. There is a non-zero chance she has tried to do some sick wyvern tricks that have ended with her falling off and being very grateful no one was around to see that. But Zelkov saw it.

Love the colors on her. They just really work well for me

A bit of a lesser thing too- but I just really love her color palette, as an artist it is just very yummy to the eye 💜
I love her support with Diamant, in her daily life she might be a girlfail but she is not naive nor a pushover as seen in this instance.
She'll make a formidable queen.
Great unit, pretty good character
On the battlefield, she's basically a fighter jet. She can melt through enemies and has enough movement range to be able to attack from just the right point. The only flying unit I found to be more powerful than her was Wyvern Knight Alfred (I reclassed him).

Overall, a 6.5/10 (7 on a good day)
Good character, good unit. Stupid design. Classic Engage.
One of my favorite characters from engage
Great as a unit and interesting as a character. One of the few characters of the game that I genuinely liked.
Like the design, hate the head thing
Shes alright that said my favorites in engage are merrin or nel
reverse camilla. great character
She’s the best girl
I hate the thingy on her head covering her face
I’m gonna get hate for this but I never understood the hype for Ivy, I don’t hate her or even dislike her I’m just personally not wild about her
which is shocking because I usually love girlfailures and I also love girls with purple hair, so you would think I’d adore a character that is both of those things but… I just don’t
I do like Lapis tho
Not a fan of the hat personally but everything else is great
Apparently my hottest FE take is that I like Fell Ivy more than regular Ivy
The one who canonically abuses Hortensia and killed all her other half siblings ?
Yeah that one
If it’s like a “I love how evil and wicked she is, I guess I can see it”, but I personally much prefer regular Ivy
Yeah I don't really care about Fell Ivy's story, but I love her evil bitch personality. When she was first revealed in Brodia, that's what I was expecting and while I don't hate what we got, I kinda would've preferred the other option
I can sort of understand liking Fell Ivy? She's very funny in how over the top she is.
But I don't think she'd work if we didn't have regular army to compare her to
Did she really have any screen time? I haven't played the FX since it was released (and I don't think I'd rewatch the cutscenes if I ever played it again) but all I remember is her saying she slept with Kagetsu and Zelkov
Enough for me to like her
Hot asf but the hat is not it
She just has way too much going on. I think her personality is decent, but it’s hard to overlook the ornamental table on her head as she talks.
Meh. The engage cast is so hollow and flat compared to 3H, which would be fine if this game didn't come directly after it. She has a nice design though, ig.
Wanted to like her.
Ended up being boring.
Sadly I didn’t use her much because of the ridiculous hat. I am not joking.
I loved this game but who on earth was in charge of costume design for some of the characters?
Yeah I wish the game hard a stronger medieval armor vibe like some entries rather than its fancy/goofy designs
Exactly! Hilarious how I am being instantly downvoted for saying her hat is stupid. What a weird community Fire Emblem is.
Maybe I should actually try and finish Triangle Strategy
It’s Reddit I wouldn’t get too offended by it and I’m sure more ppl don’t like her face hat than do
anything bad is being downvoted lol guess this was just a circlejerk thread
I like her but the stupid ass hat kinda kills her for me
She's perfect
Why is she wearing a pop filter?
I love her and her design I can do without the net thing she wears on her head though! Lol 😆
My favorite FE character in over a decade! My favorite since Jill, and my third fave of all time! ❤️
Cool character. The barbecue lid looks stupid though
I hate her stupid head piece
Brst girlfailure. And I appreciate the fact that ridiculous fascinator actually has cultural significance that makes perfect sense in context.
I love Camilla, i love her subverted emotional trauma... Ivy is better Camilla in every way. She's not hyper sexualized, she's incredibly likeable even as an antagonist, she's funny as hell, peak design including weird hat thing, insanely awkward both socially and privately.
smashHonestly top 5 Engage character for me, plus shes just a good unit
I love her, and I cherish this girl fail of a queen
Probably one of the best bait-and-switches in the series. Love my girlfailure wife.
She’s Camilla from FE:Fates done correctly.
Hot girlfailure wife
I thought she'd be another Camilla, but I was proven wrong. Good!
Vote for Ivy on CYL 10!
Funny.
But she's a blatant copy of Camilla, and her head piece looks like a barbecue lid
