Because if someone can DDoD they will DDoS and if the DDoS isn't attacking the servers directly then the company has really no true means of defence against it. As the best defence against DDoS is bad for servers that require constant connections.
I was considering playing this game again, is it really so unplayable? I've held off getting back into this because this sub talks about how bad the disconnecting is.
I have a limited time to play, and paying monthly to have interruptions seems bad.
It sucks to have happen every day, but it's a 3-5 minute interruption especially if you aren't savage raiding. The day I was impacted the most, my party lost 12 minutes. Believe me I was not a happy camper, but that's the scope.
NA has gone down maybe once or twice since that world first m12s clear (hmmm...), I think we're past the worst of it.
Even so it was never really that bad, servers never went down for more than a few seconds so you could get back in (queue) instantly and it hit on average every few hours - mostly outside of primetime.
It's winding down. I was going to Materia (Oceana) for a while to do the Endwalker MSQ, which was excellent since it was 99.9% cutscenes and walking around. I think I might be able to go back to my home world/data center now, but it may be safer to stick with Materia for another day to be sure.
The past few weeks it's been bad. Not unplayable, but you'll hit a window where there's several DDoS in a row, so you can't risk doing anything major that day just in case. But this weekend has been fine for me. It's possibly relenting now that the new content isn't so new?
Pro tip: Use a VPN and set your VPN server location to Phoenix, AZ or Los Angeles, CA. (I've had better success with Phoenix servers, but YMMV.)
Something about the way the internet routes are set up means it gets rerouted away from San Jose and San Francisco, and that bypasses the NTT nodes that keep dying.
Technically you wouldn't die most days because they happen too far apart.
When savage first came out this week you probably could have though lol
Guys, please, help, as an European I forgot the taste of liquor at this point...
I play on JP so I am very dry right now too.
FREAKIN’ BEEEEER
Yeah, Europe remains sober.
DAMMIT.
THERE'S BLOOD IN MY ALCOHOL STREAM.
Crap, as someone from Europe I'm utterly sober. 😅
r/expanddong
idk if I'm just lucky, but I genuinely haven't gotten dc'd a single time since the world race finished
I play both FFXIV and WoW and these past two weeks have sucked for both games. Why the hell are they both getting DDoS'd?

FYI it only affects you if you're playing on NA servers.
I’m on NA and have only been hit 4 times in 3 weeks

I'm so drunk Im glad tanks make me survive
Nothing like tanked tanking.
Haha facts.
Does anybody even know why the DDoS is happening?
