Hello! After the Starlight quest about kinderpunsch made me want some, I ended up trying to recreate all city-states' variants at home. The recipes turned out good enough to share, and some people expressed interest in them in my latest fanart post, so here they are!

The kinderpunsch can be reheated at will. It can be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours (I haven't tried longer), just strain out all solids before doing so.

As a side note, the ingredients with an *asterisk weren't mentioned nor seen in-game, or only under the wider terms "spices" or "herbs" that I had to extrapolate from. I did so because I wanted to make blends with rich and distinctive enough flavors, not just hot fruit juices. Still, these ingredients are optional, and if you have any question as to why I chose a specific one, feel free to ask!

Ingredients for each recipe, for ~2 cups (2x250 mL)

Lominsan kinderpunsch:

  • 1 cup (250 ml) orange juice, or 3 squeezed oranges
  • 3 Tbsp (45 ml) lemon juice, or 1 squeezed lemon
  • ⅓ cup (90 ml) grape juice, or ⅓ pound (160 g) grapes, pressed
  • ½ cup (125 ml) water
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger*, minced, or ½ tsp ground ginger*
  • ⅛ tsp (0.6 g) cardamom*
  • ⅛ tsp (0.6 g) curcuma*
  • 1 pinch (0.3 g) ground paprika (smoked if you're feeling adventurous)

Gridanian kinderpunsch:

  • 1 cup (250 ml) apple juice, or 3 pressed and filtered apples
  • ½ cup (125 ml) currant juice, or 1 cup fresh currants, or 3 tea bags of forest fruits tea
  • ½ cup (125 ml) water to brew the tea (+ ½ cup more if not using currant juice)
  • 1 tea bag of dried chamomile*
  • 2 cinnamon sticks, or 1 tsp (2.5 g) ground cinnamon
  • 1 sprig of rosemary*
  • 1 sprig of mint*

Ul'dahn kinderpunsch:

  • 1 to 3 black tea bags, or 1 to 3 tsp loose leaves
  • 1 ¼ cup (315 ml) water (+ ½ cup more to brew the tea)
  • 3 Tbsp (45 ml) cream*
  • 1 Tbsp (15 g) butter
  • ¼ cup (50 g) sultana raisins or other dried fruits, crushed
  • 1-2 star anise
  • 1 clove
  • 1 tonka bean*, grated (if you are in Belgium or in the US, first: my condolences, second: use twice the amount of vanilla and cinnamon, and add 1-2 drops of almond extract)
  • ¼ tsp (1.2 g) vanilla powder, or ½ tsp (2.4 g) vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp (0.6 g) black pepper
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg*
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • 1 pinch sea salt*

General instructions for all recipes:

If tea is involved:

  • Brew the tea in ½ cup (125 ml) hot water for 3-5 minutes, then remove the bags/leaves.
  • (For the Ul'dahn version only) Add the butter, cream and salt, then mix using a hand mixer or a blender for a couple of minutes so the butter is fully incorporated.

Then:

  • Put all other ingredients into a medium pot.
  • Gently heat over low heat for about 15 minutes.
  • (If tea is involved) Add the tea.
  • Sweeten to taste using your preferred sugar or sweetener.
  • Serve into cups through a fine-mesh sieve.
  • All of these sound amazing and I will be trying them!!

    Hope you like them!

  • You’re awesome, I love when people bring niche items to life from a fantasy world. That kinderpunsch looks amazing. What one did you end up liking the most? Hope you have a great day friend, and thank you for your work to make this!

Aww thank you so much! ☺️ Yeah, you can't give me this wholesome quest revolving around tasty beverages and expect me not to crave them x) I loved fiddling with the proportions until they tasted just right (to me).

As for which is my fave, well, all three at once! No seriously, depends on whatever flavor profile I'm craving most at the moment, since the three are so different despite being equally spicy. Limsa is zesty and tonic, Gridania is syrupy and aromatic, Ul'dah is... peppery and voluptuous? Basically a butter tea x chai latte mix, not for everyone. Flavor-wise, I'd say my top is Gridania, with Ul'dah as a close second. Limsa still is the best pick-me-up.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your kind words and I hope you have a great day/evening as well!

  • The Limsan and Ul'dahn sound delicious to me! My character has been savoring the Gridanian and I guess she needs to try the others, too. I wish I had access to tonka bean!

Gridanian is best 👌 I was very surprised to learn that tonka bean is banned in the US. To me, its aroma falls somewhere between vanilla, almond, caramel, cinnamon and... rum. An even mix of these (well, maybe not the rum) would be a good substitute.

  • Bookmarked! Thank you for these :3

    My pleasure!

  • Thank you!! I was just lamenting the fact these recipes weren't in the official cookbook because I wanted to make them! I can't wait to try these out!

Np 😊 Maybe the next cookbook will have the official recipes, who knows? In the meantime, I hope you'll like my take on these!

  • saving this I'm going to try my hand these recipes next week

Hope you'll like them if you do!

  • Do you think that melting the butter separately before adding would change the flavor/ texture instead of pulling out a mixer, for those that don't have access to one, or are feeling somewhat lazy?

Also, thank you for these, they're super neat and I'm going to try them when my sanity is too shredded by progging this tier.

Oh it wouldn't change the flavor or texture, but I think it'd be overkill (as in, one more saucepan to clean, ugh). Thing is, since melted butter will float up whatever liquid it's put into, all butter tea recipes recommend to blend, froth, or at least whisk everything together. But if you're like me and don't mind a top layer of fat bubbles in your cup, even whisking isn't needed. That's how I did it the first two times, no whisking, just stirring with a spoon before each sip.

    Good luck for Savage!

Thanks! as for generating more dishes. I was mostly thinking about microwaving the butter in a microwave -safe mug rather than doing it stovetop. But yeah, you're right about it floating and keeping separate. we just moved to a new country recently, so that's something that's been on my mind a lot the last few months, how to cook with minimal tools.

  • ty for this, they sound and look amazing

    Glad to hear 😊

  • I’ve been waiting for someone to do this, thanks so much! 💕

Np 🤎 Not dropping some proper recipes along with the quest was criminal xD But maybe we'll get the official ones in the next cookbook.

  • Not someone that i would do, but I know some fc mates that would love to try their hand at it

  • This sounds delicious and looks amazing. I added in my Bookmarks ☺️

    Happy to hear 😊

  • Absolutely brilliant! When I saw the drinks this year I wanted to do exactly this!!

Thank you, I knew I couldn't be the only one wanting to try these drinks! 😄

  • Oh I’m definitely trying the Ul’dahn one, thank you for this!

Np, hope you'll like it! It's like a mix between butter tea and chai latte.

  • Ty for including metric measurements 😭

    I have to try these!

Oh I use metric by default so np! The real challenge was converting them into imperial and adjust to make them work lol 😂
