Do they ever change the retainer tax rates? Seems like the 3 starting cities are always "normal" and everything else is "reduced". Only been occasionally tracking it for maybe a month, so just wondering if it ever changes.
Can anybody explain to me what "defamation" means, when calling out a mechanic? My friend tried explaining it to me,but i didnt understand it
My understanding of “defamation” used as a general FFXIV mechanic term is: Really, really big AoE(s) centered on one or two players which must not overlap other players. If I recall correctly, the original namesake mechanic for this was a debuff applied to one healer at a time in Ifrit Extreme which caused the debuffed healer to periodically pulse a HUGE AoE around themselves that they needed to keep away from the party.
What is the most populated world/server I can transfer to currently?
I used to be on aether cactuar and transfered to helicarnassus to be with old friends and I regret it. I miss seeing a lot more people around in heli it feels so empty and I want to get into harder content like raiding
Any chance any of the world on aether or crystal ever open up to transfers?
1) Any of the open worlds on Primal. Idk which ones specifically, they’re all populous though. Primal is also considered the secondary raid DC after Aether.
2) No time soon. World status only changes during patch maintenance, and the devs decide based on player activity. Their goal is to spread out the playerbase among the servers so folks like yourself don’t keep flocking to the “most populated” places and actually fill out the “less populated” servers so they’re no longer perceived as dead.
thank you
NA server by the way meant to say that
Is there any good ways to experience more of the stories behind FFXIV other than the role quests?
What do you mean the stories behind FFXIV? There's the collection of short stories. https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/#side_storyes
Thank you.
Hi guys I want to go back to the game, the question is.. did I get all the "uncheck" expansion if I buy dawntrail?
I have realm reborn, stormblood and havensword "tick" in my mog station, but the rest dawntrail, endwalker and shadowbringers expansion each cost 39.99 confuse me, should I buy all that or just the latest
Just Dawntrail. You can't buy the others separately anymore.
oops now I saw that even if I click for each it leads to dawntrail, thanks !!!
what is the etiquette for "farm" parties for extremes? The only high-end content I've done before is chaotic, where generally "farm" parties (at least on discords) expect you to have ~10 clears before joining. Is this also the expectation for extremes? I ask because I just cleared thomas the tank engine EX in fresh prog party (all 8 fresh), half the party left, and then the leader immediately relisted it as a farm party; I left because I didn't think I was ready to farm (by chaotic standards) but now that I look in PF everything is either early prog or farm—no clear/reclear parties, which are usually what you join to get farm-ready for chaotic—so idk if the expectations are just different for extremes?
The only real qualification for "farm" is "are you confident you can clear reasonably smoothly?" and let's face it, many people are not honest. If you've cleared and you think you can do it again without too many problems then go for it. Also doomtrain is pretty lenient so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
It's kind of up to you. If you don't feel confident it's perfectly ok to join enrage progs. If the party clears and goes into farm you are also perfectly fine to stay in, if they didn't like the people they were partying with they would have disbanded and made a farm party instead. Remember for every person like you who thinks about this there's 9 other people who don't and just yolo it lol. Farm parties are low key post-enrage prog a lot of the time.
Chaotic was a significant step up in difficult from most extremes. Angry Thomas is on the easier side for an EX.
If I join a farm party, I am hoping everyone is comfortable with the fight.
If you're not there yet, I do think joining a clear/enrage party is the best place to be (don't see a lot of reclear parties for EX)
Otherwise, creating your own PF listing with something like "Cleared but want a few more runs to get comfortable" is perfectly fine
I've been getting into scholar but I read its better to focus on using dps and using instant cast healing instead of putting on shields, when should I use shields?
Shield if it might be needed.
There's a raidwide coming and it might hit big? You don't know if you'll be able to heal during the next mechanic, or someone often takes extra damage midway through? Your dps occasionally forget to addle/feint something that needs it? There's going to be big damage in quick succession and your co-healer feels asleep at the wheel? Shield.
If you know shields aren't needed, don't shield.
Damage is important (in extreme+ content), and is essentially a measure of how many broil's you get... but keeping people alive is both more damage and faster prog.
Also worth noting imo, is how uptime is often a much bigger barrier to damage: In a 10 min fight with 0 sps, you can fit 220 broils (assuming 20 bios). If 20 of those are shields (2/min), you've lost ~10% of your damage, some of it necessary to keeping people alive. Meanwhile I've seen many healers with <80% uptime, losing >20% of their damage to nothing.
Best case scenario is to use hard cast shields when a boss is untargetable and about to use a raid wide attack.
Other situations are when all your instant cast abilities are on cool down and the party needs shields/healing.
And on occasion, in preparation for a heavy hitting raid wide (even at the cost of a missed DPS spell). This is more relevant for certain Extremes, Savage or Ultimate fights. You'll likely learn the fight ahead of time to know when this is necessary.
This is a really stupid question but have furnitures previously not dyeable become dyeable in a later update? Asking cuz a private chamber build (not done yet) has a more light blue colour theme but the Lily wall lamp i think would look good in the build is pink and i only just noticed its not dyeable q_q
Not as far as I can remember.
Is M11S making anyone else feel a bit motion sick? I haven't had this happen from any other game before but I think all the going around in circles and spinning in the first four minutes has really gotten to me today.
There any useful resources for Phaenna EX missions? Trying to slog through those on my crafters.
There are resources on Teamcraft. I would suggest in addition to any improvements you can make to your expert crafting rotation and gear, having food and pots can make the crafts a bit easier.
This spreadsheet links to macros for everything that's reliably macro-able... which isn't too many of them.
Outside of that, it's just manual expert crafting. You can find guides to that on both teamcraft and icyveins (linked on the sheet too).
Return player here, is wondering if tanks are still a needed role or is it only healer?
Also did they trim some job identity? I am noticing that ninja's trick attack is only for them now O.o which is wild. Are support dps classes dead now (not talking about RDPS)?
There's 4 tanks, 4 healers, and like 20* DPS jobs. Even allowing needing at least 2 DPS for every party, it's still very lopsided. Tanks and healers almost always insta-queue using the roulettes. So, yeah, they're definitely needed. There are people out there who only play DPS jobs.
* I haven't counted the exact number, I'm just guestimating
You may have issues queuing for alliance raids as tank as the balance there is 3 tanks, 6 healers, and 15 DPS.
The actual DPS job count would be 13, for the record.
Still about the same demand for the different roles as ever.
Trick is just for personal damage now, but you still have a party damage buff – it's just been moved over to Mug (or Dokumori, which it upgrades to later).
Other jobs still have party buffs too. Though some may be different, depending on how mon gago you last played.
All duties aside from premade parties require tanks healers and dps. Typically healers will have the shortest queues followed closely by tanks, then it's dps who are usually waiting.
I frequently see tanks as the role in need, and sometimes my queues pop faster on tank than as a healer.
Tanks and healers both will always be needed
That's a much deeper discussion than you probably would want to engage in right now, but there have been concerns that a lot of unique job identity has disappeared in favor of balance, especially compared to the earlier days of FFXIV
They shifted things around, Trick Attack is a personal buff now and Mug is the party wide buff.
In what way? In terms of things like overall utility?
Assuming they thought the trick attack change reflected a wider job identity change. So not really, support DPS aren’t dead, they all still have their buffing role NIN included
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m a returning FFXIV player and could really use some guidance from more experienced folks.
I’m currently playing Samurai (level 55) and I need to hit 60 to continue the MSQ.
What’s currently the best / fastest way to get EXP at this level?
Dungeons, roulettes, Palace of the Dead, hunts, something else? I’m a bit out of the loop.
I’m also planning to completely change my character’s appearance using a Fantasia, so I’m looking for inspiration:
On top of that, I’m thinking about leveling another job — most likely Dark Knight.
I’m really into the Guts / Berserk-style aesthetic, so:
Lastly, I’d be super grateful for any general newbie / returning-player tips — things you wish you knew earlier, quality-of-life advice, or common mistakes to avoid.
Thanks a lot in advance! ❤️
See you in Eorzea.
As far as getting EXP goes. On top of doing daily roulettes, make sure any time you log out you do it in a town or by a big crystal. If you see a crescent moon icon by the EXP gauge you will get a EXP bonus over time. This is explained very early in the game and most people probably just dismiss the dialog box or forget all about it 10 minutes later.
In addition to other suggestions, be sure to use foods. It can be literally anything and it'll give you a 3% bump for 30 minutes. Just go to one of the food vendors in one of the three starting cities and buy the cheapest food item there is. They will all give you a 3% bonus, which can add up pretty quick if you keep it active during your daily roulettes. You can also get some scrolls from your grand company squad that will increase the duration of the food buffs to like 45 minutes instead of 30.
Do your daily roulettes, followed by spamming the highest level dungeon you have available to you.
If you get bored of that, you can try a few other methods (fates, deep dungeon etc) to break it up, but dungeon spam is the most efficient method.
Daily roulettes, weekly WT book followed by dungeon spam for leveling.
Eorzea Collection for glams.
Anyone got a good trick for dodging Orbital Omen? I get the N/S cleave into an intersection, but I'm eating a damage down every single time, so I'm wondering if there's a nice tell or something to get that timing down better.
Any tips for not screwing up M9S's Vamp Stomp? I understand the fight well aside from that one single thing, though judging by others sometimes dying too (without my involvement) I guess I'm not alone in messing that up.
Shukuchi into the center instantly before anyone else can get there, then shukuchi out to the corner of the arena and hide until the center stops being dangerous. If you're not playing NIN god help you
I've been really frustrated on this one because even in parties progging late mechanics, you still seem to see people killing each other on this very early mechanic. What seems to be most reliable to me is: using these markers (which are a farther out than what hector shows), tanks and melees stay on their clock spot and basically run in as soon as the first bats telegraph, taking care not to get hit by bats or by each others' AOEs. If you see a tank veering towards you, you might need to veer a bit away from them, but really you should both be going straight in. Once you cross, DO NOT STOP (unless someone else is going to kill you), head directly to the middle, because ranged will be following pretty soon. This means that tanks and melees don't adjust at all for where the first bats are, really. Just wait for them to go off.
I dunno I think there will probably be a better strat for this eventually.
Huh, interesting. Day one I think I and many others did that but I guess PF just regressed and/or adopted Hector's worse tactic.
Yeah, I don't think there's been good communication in PF on this, and a lot of times it will work out fine if people get the best configuration of bats, but someone's gonna die if the bats come out the wrong way. Feels like we need a "braindead" strat or something.
Been using the Espresso Glow Gameplay preset on Reshade for a few years (ported over from GShade) but did a Reshade update yesterday and now things are kind of borked. Is there a website or something that has the preset files so I can maybe try to start from scratch?
what's the strat for farming Gatherer collectables?
i'm at the point of my player experience where I'm achievement hunting while I wait for new content, and I'm working on "I Collected That I", where I need to gather 300 collectibles.
i'm using Miner (level 93) and if stats matter:
-Gathering:3416
-Perception: 3272
Sitting with the full suite of level 90 scrip gear as well, with the highest level materia i can meld in all slots except for 2. I know it's going to take some time regardless, but if I can make it a little easier, I'll take whatever tips y'all have.
Unhelpfully, the strat is to... not.
You can get collectables 'passively' while doing other achievements/activities: Levelling, Custom Deliveries, farming the latest Aethersand, farming crystals/clusters, farming Orange Scrip for the mounts, Cosmic Exploration, etc. This means it's kinda the last achievement that any crafter/gatherer 'should' focus on.
So I'd pick one of those ^, starting with the collectables you can use for levelling. Tesla_dyne's answer is probably the most efficient otherwise.
Three good options for knocking out that achievement:
There are some collectable nodes that are extremely close. Raven Coal is a popular choice for this. This does happen to be a custom delivery turn-in but it being a custom delivery is less relevant than just close nodes since you're just chucking the items anyway.
Aethersand, which is needed in most level capped crafts (after the base expansion release) comes from collectables, either ephemeral nodes or fish (generally spearfishing is the way to go here). It usually sells well even when it's not current expansion stuff because people always wanna make the gear for one reason or another, it just generally sells in lower quantities.
Cosmic Exploration's mining and botany is... not exclusively collectables, but it's a very high number of them, and you don't need to worry about inventory space.
If you simply want the achievement, just go for any custom delivery items since they have 100% uptime, and don't do anything to increase collectability.
If you also want to get some scrip along the way, you'll want to be going for the highest level timed nodes you can gather from. Plenty of alarm sites you can use to track those such as teamcraft. Keep in mind you can't turn them in until you're at their level even if you can gather them, so you might clog your inventory going for items you can't turn in yet.
There should've been advance notice of maint on Lodestone by now if 7.41 was going to be on Tuesday, right?
tyvm as always! :)
Yeah. Announcements are usually up by now if they were going to do it on Tuesday. If you don’t see anything tomorrow online, or in game as you log in, then it very likely will not be happening next week.
My assumption is that it got pushed back a week due to them pushing back savage.
Probably. 7.31's maintenance was announced on August 28th, a Thursday before. 7.21 was announced on April 17th, also a Thursday.
So yeah, 7.41 is probably not happening next week.

Do feints from multiple players stack?
No, most debuffs cannot stack with themselves (with some exceptions like Death's Design or DoTs). Chain Stratagem and Dokumori also do not stack with other copies of themselves.
they do not. any role action will simply overwrite the other. So you can stack multiple "damage reduction" abilities but they have to be unique abilities. IE Addle and Feint can stack but not Feint and Feint.
If I want to play ONLY seal rock in pvp on seal rock days, is it better to gamble on the frontline roulette rng or hard queu into seal rock map? Whenever I do the roulette I ALWAYS get the Worqor Chirter or whatver its called map, meaning i cant get any progress on my seal rock 100 wins achievement. But whenever I try to Hard queue into seal rock the queue is over 30 minutes (currently sitting at 35 minutes and no match found).
You can't do much to deal with that Seal Rock queue because of how the new map is currently. Hopefully they put it in a normal rotation soon.
Does roulette put higher priority on the new map? I wasnt sure if hard queuing was just not even putting me in the same queues as rouletters or not
They are the same prio I think. It's just because everyone wants the new map for the new achievements over one that's already been there.
I imagine they're the same priority. If you're seeing more of the new map than others it's likely because people are queuing for it specifically to work towards the achievement mount from it.
If you're after specific achievements from the older FL modes you're pretty much forced to pick whatever you think is the lesser of two evils, be it to gamble on roulette or waiting a long time from direct queue. Until the new mode is added to the daily roulette roster which might be at 7.5 earliest or around late Apr/early May, might as well put the coat grind on the backburner.
You might just need to wait until they put the new one into rotation.
What the hell should I spend my poetics on if I'm done getting all the relics I want? Anything that can be sold on the MB maybe? Thanks!
https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Guide_to_Spending_Poetics
Teamcraft has a currency spending guide that allows you to see what sells well on your mb. Alternatively, there are old gear sets if you're still levelling, or random orchestrian rolls
Not really a technical question, but im a returning player in HW after 4 years who thought msq is truly completely soloable now. I got up to Thok ast thok (hard) and see I need a party for it. My anxiety is even worse now seeing as im trying to get the hang of the game again. Is anyone willing to run it with me? Im on Aether (Siren). Whm.
Don't be mislead by the 'Hard' label - the devs hadn't fully figured out their naming conventions at that point in the MSQ, and for some reason, they decided to call the eight player trials 'Hard' despite them being no more difficult than normal. This stops once you get to the end of Heavensward, thankfully.
Not in its entirety - anything that you're required to do which needs four people (all MSQ dungeons, all the 2.0 trials) can be done with three NPCs accompanying you instead, and there are some optional dungeons they can be taken into as well.
There are also some required 8-person fights where you can drag in 7 NPCs, but the earliest one where you can do that is fairly late into Endwalker, L89. The majority still require seven actual people, unless you unsync them.
I'd offer to help, but I'm not planning on being on until much later today and the only one of my characters far enough along is in a different region, so it'd require dealing with OCE ping, sadly.
It should however be one of those that fills in a reasonable amount of time, but you could try putting up a PF if you're paid, or asking in novice network (results may vary)?
General advice: keep some sort of regen going on the main tank and Aero going on the boss; remember to mash Stone, and - while people don't need to be at full health all the time - prioritise Afflatus Solace over Cure 2. Cure 1 isn't worth it. Use Lucid Dreaming when you're down to about 8k MP, and use Presence of Mind when it's available. There'll be a second healer with you. You'll be fine. :)
Thank you so much for your reply :)
Literally just join in DF and tell people you are new, or put up a PF saying you want to run it and you are new. People will gladly help you and not judge you.
Don't think you need to worry about people judging you on a sub-60 trial but if you're on novice network you can definitely ask people on there if they'll run it with you.
Just queue in duty finder and say it's your first time. People will understand, expectations in MSQ content are super low, especially at low levels
At BLM max level after the rework, is triplecast still a dps gain anywhere? Or can it just be used for movement?
Potential DPS gain uses of it would be:
Ending Fire phase with Despair (or another instant cast) > Triple+Transpose > Blizzard III.
Nullifying the cast time of a spell like Fire IV or Flare Star so it lands under party buffs or before a boss disengages when it otherwise wouldn't (really precise timing, you might go multiple fights never seeing an opportunity for this – and compared to just doing Xeno there instead, only the Flare Star version is a gain, and that only by 10 potency post-AF buff).
And Swiftcast can cover either of those too.
Beyond that, nothing I'm aware of. It's functionally just a movement ability.
no, it is not a gain. the only consistent, small gain you can get is if you use swift/triple for blizzard 3 after transposing to ice from a completed fire phase. it is almost entirely a movement tool now that your casts are short and require little forethought
All BLM spells now have a shorter cast than recast, so Triple is only a movement ability, for the most part. There may be fringe cases where you can squeeze another f4 cast under burst buffs if you don't have to wait for the cast bar, but that's about it.
Which fish is the best for the waterproof cotton cloth? I'm free trial, so can't do housing stuff or mb or trade ;-;. i've caught lone ripper and Olgoi-Khorkhoi ... and after desynthing 5 of each idk if one of the other fish has a higher drop rate .
According to https://gacha.infi.ovh/desynth?reward=8027, these fish have dropped Waterproof Cotton Cloth with the following rates. Based on this, and the fact that the later 3 are all much rarer and locked behind weather windows, I'd just stick to catching and desynthin Shirkers since they have a 100% uptime.
Shrieker 27.68%
Olgoi-Khorkhoi 34.55%
The Lone Ripper 34.95%
Sweetnewt 51.06%
i would go with this one just because it is always up https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Shrieker
i dont think we have access to desynth rates beyond user reported data.
alright, i'll try that and the other suggestion
thank you
Any good way to open web links from chat on a ps5? I've had Google lens on a phone suggested to me (does that work well). Can it be done natively in the console?
You have to type it into another browser.
Don't open weblinks from the game's chat.
Eh. Plenty of links to raidplan.io being shared in PFs. Use common sense. Maybe don't open sketchy links /tell'ed from randos. Probably not going to have malware installed on a ps5 though.
I'm also on PS and it's gonna have to be opened on a phone or computer
