It was only in shadowbringers that they made it so your dots were always at the front. It was a nightmare during public events and bosses would have a bajillion status effects.
I been playing this whole damn time and didn’t notice that was changed. Must be what I’m plugging into my outlets that lets me see mine in front still.
I was going to respond and then realized that Shadowbringers is now 6 years ago. I started somewhere during post-Shadowbringers (5.3 is my best guest) back in April of 2020. Whewww I feel older than I already did. XD
I think we’re now further from Shadowbringers than ShB was from ARR. Don’t quote me on that as I didn’t do the math and think I heard that but also may have made it up
There’s also an option in the character customization that makes it to where only your effects on the boss, pretty sure that’s been around since ARR, though it would take off the beneficial effects that you play around others using too.
I realize you're probably joking but holy jeebus was it helpful when someone pointed out to me that buffs/debuffs/HoTs/DoTs *I* applied have a green timer whereas everyone else's are white. It's still often not enough of a color difference and I quite frequently drop my dots when doubled. But it is still very useful.
Yes, but in the case of double (or more) jobs, it’s not impossible that someone else may have a DOT or buff up and, if yours has dropped, theirs could be in the front. If you’re not paying attention to the color, it’s easy to assume it’s yours.
I didn't know this was a thing. I turned off every one else's debuffs in ARR. Playing Brd and Smn in Crystal Tower with 23 other players worth debuffs was pain. Especially when you hit the displayed debuffs cap lol
May or may not be worth it for you, but since most fights are single target, I just focus target the boss and see only my debuffs on the target bar, but focus target still shows everything. Although part of this is habit left over from before auto targeting was a thing and focus made it faster to get back on the boss.
Sadly, Breath of Magic and Mortal Flame don't stack, they replace each other.
However, if you're after lots of stackable DoT effects, there's Aqua Breath (Dropsy), Bad Breath (Poison and lots of non-damaging, non-stacking stuff), Mustard Bomb/Peripheral Synthesis (Lightheaded), Siren Song/Nightbloom (Bleed) and Peat Pelt (Begrimed) - not that you'd use most of those in standard BLU loadouts though.
Reason: It doesn't matter because only one song can be globally applied at a time and the game handles it by alternating whose buff gets applied every tick. Meaning each bard is, in this case, providing 1/4th of its utility.
Only from a party perspective. For your own damage's sake you want to always be in Wanderer's Minuet when you pop your buffs (2 raid, 1 personal). And with multiple bards you try to avoid using raid buffs on top of each other so you also have to put some thought in to which song you start with.
EDIT: I forgot that Radiant Finale got a (damaging) follow-up at Lv.100, as a result, all of the below is only true for sub-100 content (read: wrong for the purposes of this discussion).
Battle Voice and Radiant Finale buff everyone by the same amount, so you could just all start in Minuet, pop Raging Strikes/Barrage and have one person use their party-wide buffs and it should get you the exact same overall DPS increase as if you took turns with your songs to line them up with your own party-wide buffs, as long as all the other bards remember to use their party-wide stuff separately.
The only argument I could see is that there might be a "best" song for everyone to be affected by, so you might still want to shuffle things around to have a chance that every single attack snapshots that buff no matter where you'd be in the "standard" song rotation, but that'd basically be an extra layer of RNG for every single attack, so consistency (and synchronized songs) probably win out anyway.
(Note for anyone using parsing tools, the reason why it looks like your own buff works better on you than others is simply because the default metric FFLogs cares about tries its best to calculate the damage increase caused by a buff across everyone affected by it and attributes all of it to the person that used the buff - basically, it looks at the actual DPS and goes "Well, Player A had a buff from player B, which would've raised their average damage output by XX% during that time, so let's go ahead and subtract that much from Player A and add it to player B instead."
This is very easy to figure out for flat damage buffs like e.g. Mug or AST cards, but they have a formula to approximate an average value for crit/DH buffs as well, so this still happens if you look up logs with a BRD/SCH/etc. in the party.)
That said, I'm not a BRD main, I only looked at the skill text for Battle Voice and Radiant Finale, but there might be something else I missed - if that's the case, please tell me about it!
While that's probably very close to being as effective, at least two bard's out of the four would have their heaviest hitter Radiant Encore out of alignment with Raging Strikes. The first one to buff would align it as usual and the last one to use buffs might or might not be able to stretch the 30 sec proc until Raging Strikes is up again.
On the other hand if all four enter their full burst separately (WM + Pitch Perfect, all 3 buffs, Barrage etc) then none of them need to compromise any dps. Especially in a comp like that where the tanks and healers don't provide any raid buffs. Although I guess it's worth noting that this level of optimization is completely unnecessary in normal content. And I doubt there will be many four bard parties outside of DF lol.
Yeah one other bard I usually just swap mage and wanderer in my rotation because it helps the party overall, but idk how four bards would coordinate that.
You know the worst part is a lot of the times it isn't even intentional or bad plays, it's just muscle memory gets you, I've been in a lot of situations where I'm playing SCH with another SCH and I'm so used to being the sole Chain Stratagem that either I replace the other SCH's CS or they replace mine. Also the fact people on regular content people rarely coordinate so you just wing it.
He's a royal guard with a heart of light, but if you provoke his gnashing fang, he'll show you no mercy. After noble blood is spilled, Aurora finds herself on a collision trajectory with him, but can she overcome his keen edge? Find out in Reign of Beasts, book one of The Fated Circle
Just wait till every expansion comes out. Anybody else remember 4 reapers and 2 sages in crystal tower for a month straight? Or any combination of pictos and vipers and no one else? Lol
So it's not just me who felt that way? I thought I was going crazy! I main AST, and find I often don't have a melee DPS to apply that one card buff to, even in duty roulette. Then I have a fight in my head about who gets the ranged DPS card. 😅
They'd still have to do twice the DPS of a tank, when tanks usually clock in at 60% of a DPS, so the DPS would have to crank it up all the way to 120% (or 1/5th more than expected), or the tank would have to go down to 50% (1/6th less) for the 3% buff on the "wrong" DPS to break even with the 6% buff on the tank.
Not impossible, but not something you'd see every day either.
If they've already got a 6% card and the tanks are poorly geared that's not out of the question at all lol. I've had dungeons and normal raids/trials where I out damage both tanks on ast myself.
i was there! i spent 5 minutes editing the names out of a screenshot with MS paint and then realized i can’t send images in comments so idk if anyone will believe me :(
I think you'd need 2 ASTs for that, just because buffers tend to have worse personal DPS, so they'd be worse targets for all the BRD buffs.
(Not sure which tank currently performs 0.1% worse than the rest, so not gonna weigh in on that.)
As far as DPS selection goes, you're probably right though.
Back when the Braaxskin (lvl 100) treasure maps were first released, I got into a map party with myself as WHM, a WAR tank, and six PCTs. Everything just melted.
We marched through the cenote over and over again like we owned the place, racked up three clears and well over half a mil each in goodies, and our only real enemy was RNGesus himself. It was glorious.
You have a whole freakin' band there. This could only get more absurd if it were 4 RDM. Then there would be no excuse for anyone's body to fully hit the floor before they were on their feet again.
when i played D&D in college, someone wrote on the white board where we used to play "4 Bards equals 1 useful character" XD I imagine here it was not the case.
Yeah no if I was on bard and loaded into 3 other bards, I'd just eat the 30 rather than have our party be even more gimped. Running double bard is pain. Running quad bard is nope.
You can see it in the post itself - there are 4 bards and only one active song for the party. Whatever song was last played is the only one the party benefits from.
I wish I got a screenshot of it saved, but I was in an alliance party where it was 5 Dancers, 2 Scholars and a Gunbreaker. All Bards I think is quite the achievement though.
Ive gotten some of these compositions parties in dailies. I think my favorite was an all tank EW Alliance raid where it was all DRK A, all War B, and C was PLD and GNB.
I've had all summoners before in a party comp... there is a group of Lala's running raids as a party of BLM's hilarious. I wish I was seeing more of them.
I rouletted into a boss and it took the group approximately three seconds to realise we had five dancers on our team. Everyone was actually really good about staggering their dances too, so the buff windows were eternal.
Reminds me of a time I got upset that the tank kept spinning the boss. I'm over here healing and I say, "Stop spinning the boss!" They responded, "All of you are ranged. It doesn't matter." LOL I'm like, "Well... proceed then hahahaha"

This is a great comment.
i just posted this same joke, then saw your post lmao.
great minds think alike i guess
I posted the same thing and here we are. lol 😂
just wanted to share I was upvote #666 on this
imagine the double DOTs
It was wild looking
Grand total of 12 dots at a time! Sure, Circle of Scorn only has 50% uptime, but every 3 seconds (while everything is running) the boss gets:
2x Circle of Scorn, ideally with Fight or Flight snapshot for 75 potency
2x Dia, for 170 potency
4x Caustic Bite, for 80 potency
4x Stormbite, for 100 potency
I know potencies don't add up neatly, but 425 potency of dots is funny to imagine.
Death by a thousand papercuts.
“Fuck, which ones mine?”
The two in green
It was only in shadowbringers that they made it so your dots were always at the front. It was a nightmare during public events and bosses would have a bajillion status effects.
I been playing this whole damn time and didn’t notice that was changed. Must be what I’m plugging into my outlets that lets me see mine in front still.

I think we’re now further from Shadowbringers than ShB was from ARR. Don’t quote me on that as I didn’t do the math and think I heard that but also may have made it up
That... is actually true, damn. I guess things have slowed a bit.
ARR: August 27, 2013
ShB: July 2, 2019 (a little under 6 years)
Current: January 8, 2026 (6.5 years)
<crumbles into dust>
lol, yeah....
If you just count launch day of ShB, yeah. Not quite for end of ShB, which was about 4.5 years ago :)
There’s also an option in the character customization that makes it to where only your effects on the boss, pretty sure that’s been around since ARR, though it would take off the beneficial effects that you play around others using too.
No those are the healers
I realize you're probably joking but holy jeebus was it helpful when someone pointed out to me that buffs/debuffs/HoTs/DoTs *I* applied have a green timer whereas everyone else's are white. It's still often not enough of a color difference and I quite frequently drop my dots when doubled. But it is still very useful.
It was a joke yes, but I also didn’t realize that. This is very helpful
Wait what
There’s also a setting to make your debuffs be listed first
Yes, but in the case of double (or more) jobs, it’s not impossible that someone else may have a DOT or buff up and, if yours has dropped, theirs could be in the front. If you’re not paying attention to the color, it’s easy to assume it’s yours.
Also - you could just be an idiot like me and constantly confuse the BLM DoT with the Sage DoT.
oooh. This just helped me sooo much. I didn't realize that either
I didn't know this was a thing. I turned off every one else's debuffs in ARR. Playing Brd and Smn in Crystal Tower with 23 other players worth debuffs was pain. Especially when you hit the displayed debuffs cap lol
I put the setting that I can only see my stuff, makes it muuuuch easier haha
Same here, sadly that means I'll never notice the debuffs liek chain strategem or trick attack without them enabled.
May or may not be worth it for you, but since most fights are single target, I just focus target the boss and see only my debuffs on the target bar, but focus target still shows everything. Although part of this is habit left over from before auto targeting was a thing and focus made it faster to get back on the boss.
Only dot i see is red
Im just imagining this with BLU and 8 nightblooms, a breath of Magic, and a mortal flame on each
Sadly, Breath of Magic and Mortal Flame don't stack, they replace each other.
Yeah thats why I specified 8 nightblooms, a BoM, and a Mortal Flame.
Fair - I think I went "But that's not more than 2 DoTs per person!" xD
We go back to the days of Heavensward hunts where so many dots apply that you can no longer track your own and you can only pray
Bruh that just got me with a wave of nostalgia I remember the bards memeing in shout chat about it
At given points there’d be 12 DoTs on the boss, 8 from the 4 bards, 2 from the white mages and 2 from the paladins
I’d expect full uptime on buffs.
Reality: all of them use the buff at the same time
Reason: It doesn't matter because only one song can be globally applied at a time and the game handles it by alternating whose buff gets applied every tick. Meaning each bard is, in this case, providing 1/4th of its utility.
Truly the jankiest job.
Songs have their own unique jank but you should still avoid using raid buffs (BV and Radiant Finale) simultaneously.
You still have battle voice and uh that other button I forgot the name of
But yeah the songs are about as useful as if there was one bard lol
Only from a party perspective. For your own damage's sake you want to always be in Wanderer's Minuet when you pop your buffs (2 raid, 1 personal). And with multiple bards you try to avoid using raid buffs on top of each other so you also have to put some thought in to which song you start with.

Sadly bard songs do not stack - you can only benefit from ONE song at a time per tick, no matter how many bards play how many different ones.
Well it makes sense. Imagine listening to 4 musicians at once all playing different songs.
That's just a Charles Ives piece.
Usually whenever I get paired up with a fellow scholar, 9 times outta 10 they'll pop their CS first. Have gotten many commends from some just for.
Ah the church choir party comp.
One Alliance Raid, at the first mob, chat starts shouting "Book Club!"
I look at Alliance A. A Gunbreaker, two Scholars, and 5 Summoners.
The gnb is either there for security or the protaganist of the book
The booktok boyfriend?
The one dude in the back of the bookstore exclusively flicking through hunting catalogues, history of war non fictions and hard sci fi novels.

"so anyway here's Wonderwall"
I was in an M9 yesterday where every DPS was a black mage. When we finished someone said "Lady got jumped by the bad class at Hogwarts"
god i wish that were me
Bahahaha, IKR? I bet the visual effects were dazzling.
Hey, at least everyone has their Job Stones equipped.
Oh no, did someone forget to shuffle the Duty Finder?
Just wait till every expansion comes out. Anybody else remember 4 reapers and 2 sages in crystal tower for a month straight? Or any combination of pictos and vipers and no one else? Lol
you got a whole ass band
I hope they were casting vicious mockery as much as possible... wait... wrong game.
There have been so many phys ranged players this tier.
So it's not just me who felt that way? I thought I was going crazy! I main AST, and find I often don't have a melee DPS to apply that one card buff to, even in duty roulette. Then I have a fight in my head about who gets the ranged DPS card. 😅
When that happens on the rare occasion I play AST, the tanks get the melee cards and the DPS with the highest aggro rank gets the ranged cards.
If I have a black mage or something who's absolutely pumping in that scenario, also sometimes worth just giving them both cards.
Which is weird, I'm either the last person to join (bard) or a dancer made the party and locked it to double melee.
They keep making fights unfriendly to melee.
As requested heavily by the community after every Endwalker boss had a hit box the size of the entire arena.
That's the point. Melee should be high damage, but in exchange may have to disengage.
Ranged should full uptime at the expense of damage.
which allows good melees to show off their skills
Good.
Rather that than playing fist-flavored phys ranged with more damage due to large hitboxes.
Fights are fine, melee skill has plummeted and never recovered from EW
Skill issue
M9s has been pretty fun on melee, but I haven’t gotten to try the blowjob brothers yet
That is indeed one of the party selections 2026 has to offer.
I’ll never forget an Aglaia run in PF named “Guns vs. God” and it was all restricted to GNB, SGE and MCH
I love this idea lol!
i was there! i spent 5 minutes editing the names out of a screenshot with MS paint and then realized i can’t send images in comments so idk if anyone will believe me :(
edit: I was one of the tanks
edit edit: can i link images? does [this](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed\_fullsize/plain/did:plc:xrnamk32dzxt2plzrcevyk3g/bafkreibabnbgi7rq7jx7whmmbjdgkvtiotfjoldnkgqhgd6t6gev4tkate@jpeg) work
Small world lol
Our arrows shall blot out the sun
That whm is shitting on dps is killing me. 😆
I didn't even realize that. It was me lol
Must have been one heck of a concert.
What the helli
Anyway, here's Wonderwall
Now that's what I call a concert.
Would be a great D&D party.
Two paladins, two clerics, and a full band.
"Yeah we cleared m10 with only 3 jobs!"
Did y'all clear tho?
It wasn't savage so easy clear even with the comp lol
Isn't that one of the lowest DPS comps you can have?
WHM top 2 DPS here for sure
I think you'd need 2 ASTs for that, just because buffers tend to have worse personal DPS, so they'd be worse targets for all the BRD buffs.
(Not sure which tank currently performs 0.1% worse than the rest, so not gonna weigh in on that.)
As far as DPS selection goes, you're probably right though.
WAR
Time to spin the boss. Fuck yeah!!!
All I’m seeing is a Christian rock band 🤷♂️
This made me cackle
Back when the Braaxskin (lvl 100) treasure maps were first released, I got into a map party with myself as WHM, a WAR tank, and six PCTs. Everything just melted.
We marched through the cenote over and over again like we owned the place, racked up three clears and well over half a mil each in goodies, and our only real enemy was RNGesus himself. It was glorious.
I wanted to post the Titanic gif of the band playing together as the ship sinks, but in reverse so the ship unsinks and fixes itself.
How i miss old ffxi bard parties.
It was great being able to get a party literally at any time you wanted.
It was hell that people would bother you when you were doing anything else to try to get you to come brd for them.
A song of hope
The mythical battle of the bards!
Which PLD missed the LB3?
Tanks bringing the beat down. Bards bringing the beat.
We’re getting the band back together.
You have a whole freakin' band there. This could only get more absurd if it were 4 RDM. Then there would be no excuse for anyone's body to fully hit the floor before they were on their feet again.
I had three dancers and a bard one time.
They raving
I usually call these kinds of parties Noah's ark but when the DPS are split two and two as well
Why
Great question. This is what the game threw together when I queued up for a raid. This was not intentional lol
Oh okay so random and not due to some crazy buff to these classes
Absolutely not. As much as I love Bard, I could only imagine the chaos they were going through during this random impromptu beach-side concert
Everything's coming up Milhouse
Well then, in theory if they stagger their songs could have almost perfect uptime.
when i played D&D in college, someone wrote on the white board where we used to play "4 Bards equals 1 useful character" XD I imagine here it was not the case.
"Anyways, here's Pa-Paya"
Its an Ashes of Creation party build!
Bard OP in Ashes!!!
That must have taken forever to kill.
I wish the matchmaking algorithm didn’t place duplicate jobs in parties.
Must've been one lit concert!
Side note: Did you manage to pass all the DPS checks? Asking as a BRD main
This wasn't savage so the fight went pretty smoothly. No wipes, just vibes.
That’s not a raid that’s a rave.
Oh no..
Yeah no if I was on bard and loaded into 3 other bards, I'd just eat the 30 rather than have our party be even more gimped. Running double bard is pain. Running quad bard is nope.
Man. Multiple DNC is bad enough when you only have to try to work around tech step, not an entire song rotation...
Nothing wrong with this. All im seeing is full uptime on all 3 songs.
They don't stack.
As a bard player, nothing messes me up more than having another bard in the party.
I had a feeling they dont. I remember seeing a jeuno raid with ome of the bards asking what song they are starting first
You can see it in the post itself - there are 4 bards and only one active song for the party. Whatever song was last played is the only one the party benefits from.
Bards should always just sing their normal song rotation, even if there’s another bard. The songs don’t overlap, so might as well sing the same one
When multiple bard songs are in play the one that's globally applied actually alternates between each other every tick.
It's more like each bard is getting only 1/4th of their total utility out of the buff.
I wonder if any of the nat 20ed on Vicious mockery..
I hope all the bards used the pink rave arrows when available. For nostalgia's sake.
Yo! That’s John Full Party there!
What's it like having MNK GDC's as WAR?
Wild!
8 hardcore support mains somehow make it work
And only one song active, disgusting
Nothing beats my 9 BRD Rabanastre raid.
I need to get back into this game. I miss barding :(
This must be the reason for all the network instability.
SQEX servers trying to compute what song and from what bard should be on the buffs list.
insert Spider-Man meme
I wish I got a screenshot of it saved, but I was in an alliance party where it was 5 Dancers, 2 Scholars and a Gunbreaker. All Bards I think is quite the achievement though.
What year is this? Are we in ARR? This was such a flashback seeing this lol
Quite the musical escapade if you ask me.
Right after they launched, ended up in a party where all DPS was DNC. The fights take soooo long...but so many flashy effects!
Yikes. 4 bards and only onw bufff allowed. Feels bad xD
Everybody get up its time to slam now
Keygen Church starts playing
A homogenic party, the second most homo thing in the whole game
Seen one like that but with dnc. Know the buffs will be a mess if trying to optimize it
HOLY SHIT HOW MANY STATUS EFFECTS DO THESE GUYS NEED!?
arrows block out the sun
Ive gotten some of these compositions parties in dailies. I think my favorite was an all tank EW Alliance raid where it was all DRK A, all War B, and C was PLD and GNB.
Wow
Bardcore
Feeding the boss so much poison dots they’re gonna be pissing purple for the next month
I've had all summoners before in a party comp... there is a group of Lala's running raids as a party of BLM's hilarious. I wish I was seeing more of them.
BRD up!
I rouletted into a boss and it took the group approximately three seconds to realise we had five dancers on our team. Everyone was actually really good about staggering their dances too, so the buff windows were eternal.
Not enough dancers
All that music and not one dancer there to enjoy it.
Please tell me yall had all 3 bard buffs up at once?
Everyone is a robinhood.
Holy holy, that's a musical!
And fully ARR at that too. Also, did you know that the Bard is the word?
Had the same but with dancers
Dance the night away...
WITH A HAIL OF HARPOONS
ARC ARC ARC ARC CON CON GLA GLA
Did you clear though?
Reminds me of a time I got upset that the tank kept spinning the boss. I'm over here healing and I say, "Stop spinning the boss!" They responded, "All of you are ranged. It doesn't matter." LOL I'm like, "Well... proceed then hahahaha"
Two shrek, two Fiona, and four donkeys lol
so who gets to use 10000 arrows?
Dzmael darkhold be like
Big beautiful bards
