I just blew up the hub on my Bigfoot and am going down the rabbit hole of fatbike wheels and hubs.
Part of me wants to go with a Mulefut wheelset, the other part of me wants to build a wheelset with some DT350 hubs. I’ve also see some Evo brand wheels with Novatech hubs pop up. Seems like the novatech hubs have mixed reviews too.
Yeah that’s my thoughts too. I’m going to have a chat with my LBS and likely go with what they recommend. I’m also looking at the WTB ST i76 wheels with DT350 hubs or even Hope Pro4’s. I don’t need carbon, just want something reliable that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
I see BikeDirect and even places like Amazon and EBay have Mulefut 80’s for a decent price but they are also paired with Novatech hubs.
I'm about to build a wheel with some parts I got free to use as a studdes wheelset, if that guess well I'm really tempted to lace some DT350 hubs into my HED carbon rims.
I think DTs are worth it, especially for the sealing on the freehub. I've got DT (or DT style start ratchet hubs) on 5 other wheelsets (full sus, single speed MTB, gravel, road, single speed) and I've never had issue, even with the abuse my gravel & full sus bikes get (both have done 100-200 mile races in rainstorms where I was caked in mud, the gravel bike repeatedly went thru puddles up to the top tube).

Same, I’m on my 3rd rear hub in 3 years and need something super durable. DT350 and Onyx seem to be the leading candidates.

I hear ya. I think if you got with the DT350’s you won’t have any problems. With those wheels you’ll be set!
But it's still $500 on hubs and spokes even with me building the wheels. Just to solve a problem I don't have yet.
Yeah their not cheap, I made a thread about Novatech and Borealis hubs. Curious if there is a more budget friendly option.
The 350’s would be the ultimate wheel though.

Buy. Upgrade as needed.
