Back into Alaska’s Wilderness for a Solstice adventure. With the sunrise at 10:13AM and sunset at 3:47PM we left Anchorage at 6:30 in the morning to get a jump start on the day. We saw temperatures range from 5F to -19F. On the trail we experienced a few areas of exposure and lots of ice. We found the sweet spot to be about 8 PSI which allowed our studded tires to bite into the ice and hold us up on some tricky off camber areas. The consequences in several areas were a fall into the river. Once we got to the lake, we had ice screws and throw ropes in case anyone fell in. The lake depth was consistently over 6 inches in depth. A fun safe adventure in a few type II moments.
Alaska must be so cool. Good to see you don't waste all the opportunity you have, rock on.
I’m jealous of my bike who has been to Alaska and did the ITI 350 two years ago with his previous owner. The things he’s (bike) has seen… I try to show him a good time but I know I’ll never be able to replicate it, lol. I’m sorry buddy! You’re stuck with me now.
Amazing! Had a ITI 350 finisher ride with us on this adventure, may do a ride to Rainy Pass one of these winters…. Beyond that it doesn’t look very fun.
Thanks! With the cold weather it can be easy to stay on the couch at home, but that never makes a good weekend memory.
Geeze Louise you’re living the dream!
Thanks! I’m from Texas and 14 years in Alaska really boosts the desire to seek adventures.

You as well! Thanks!
Gorgeous, thank you for sharing these pics. Appreciate how you mention the safety gear you had along.
Thanks for noticing that. If I’m going to inspire wilderness adventures, I thought it would be important to include how to mitigate risks.
Eklutna?? Looks great, stay safe and keep adventuring!
Thanks! This was crescent lake. I hear Eklutna is great, wanted to visit the more remote lake.
Right on, haven’t been down there in a while
I was guessing Crescent. Great photos, thanks. Looks like you went up from the Hope side. Or did you park a car on the Seward side and do a thru ride? One of the weirdest things ever in my Alaska time happened on that trail. Mid-80s was hiking in and here comes down the trail nowhere near the trailhead, in the pouring rain, a guy all outfitted like a cowboy, boots, hat the whole thing, with a bloody ram's hindquarter slung over his shoulder. WTF?
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like that hunter got his prize and nothing was going to get in his way. Yeah we started from the cooper landing side, so shout about a 6.5 mile approach.
Spectacular picture!!
Thanks for the kind words!
Rad pics
Thanks!
Looks like perfect conditions
There were some amazing conditions out there, a little bumpy, but variable snow always brings fun challenges.
