Some are definitely built to be as big and strong as they are.
What they’re not built for is constant start/stop sprinting and change of direction. We’re built for long distance running not constant full speed agility like a cheetah or impala.
And on top of that, athletic shoes that are meant to give you extra traction inherently place more strain on our knees, ankles, etc. Cleats are probably worst of all, because they allow movements that would normally cause your foot to slip or the grass to give away
Well cleats on shoes cause the foot being stuck which also applies weird pressure to ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones, which is why we get a lot of injuries
This is legit. I can't remember the source but I read a sports science article that basically said that modern PEDs are incredibly effective (far beyond the stuff of the 70s-90s) and the PEDs help the muscles grow really fast but don't really help the tendons and ligaments strengthen.
So modern athletes are literally growing their muscles faster than their ligaments/tendons can handle and generating too much power. And yes, almost every player is taking some sort of PED.
But that's not a career ender... Kelce hasn't been himself the last couple years but he's still been a very productive player. There's no guarantee of anything, but Kittle could definitely have a couple years left even if he's not the same guy.
But kittle is made of glass regardless of the Achilles injury and Kelce isn’t. Plus he will be likely a full season out of the game when he comes back. Odds of him being a complete shadow of his former self is pretty high.
Exactly, and people were talking like he was washed. Just because you aren't at your peak anymore doesn't make you worthless at a position like tight end.
Unfortunately, Kittle also made deliberate choices to go all in all the time especially as a blocker and it has consistently set him apart but also creates his problem. Kelce can block and he's a willing participant but he also just recognized that he was more useful when he was catching or creating lanes in the middle of the field without always just getting mauled. Kittle was always going to end up with an injury like this because he ultimately has never played smart. He's passionate and awesome but he's a bull seeing red. Kelce has a little more reservation, finesse, and he's lasted longer because of it
No way. He’s only 32, he’s one of the best TEs in the league, and medicine keeps getting better and better. He could definitely come back, even if it’s more as an above average starting TE rather than an elite one.
People love saying “career ender” as soon as an Achilles/ACL injury happens to anyone over 30. Rodgers has played multiple seasons in his 40s after an Achilles tear. Nick Chubb is still playing after his leg got destroyed in 2023. Obviously he’s not the same player but he’s also a 30 year old RB. Kittle may not ever be an All-Pro again but he will 100% be back
And hof wr Hines ward played his entire career WITHOUT AN ACL…. Now without an Achilles is a bit different but it’s also one of the more recoverable injuries.
Wow TIL. I knew you could go about daily life and even run in a straight line without an ACL. Never heard of anyone playing football at a high level without it
Tbf Rodgers is a pocket passer and Chubb was never fantasy relevant again. Not saying kittle couldn’t, but this could functionally end his career. Especially as a relevant fantasy player
True, to be honest I didn’t pay attention to whether this was r/nfl or r/fantasyfootball when I wrote that. I have no doubt Kittle will play again but yeah being fantasy relevant is a different story. I could see it being a thing where he goes largely undrafted in 2027 and then has a few big weeks and people are like “oh yeah it’s George Kittle I should have drafted him instead of [insert JAG here]” and he ends up being decent but not great for fantasy, like Zach Ertz was this year
That is the most optimistic time frame and almost never the case for athletes. The athlete estimation is 9 to 12 months and Greenlaw made news for coming back so quickly to play in the super bowl 10 months after his tear. Kittle migjt be able to come back in the playoffs next year which would be 33 and not 34 but if he doesnt then thats 1 full season gone.
Not sure what “the athlete” is as a source but if you google it the results are 2 to 12 months, depending on severity, which we (unless you are an insider expect guy??) don’t know yet… not sure why you would just jump to worst case but even IF worst case hits, which there is plenty of evidence to see is very possible, he would still play next year.
I mean hed be pretty old for a TE by the time he came back. He might be effective still but coming off an achilles tear and recovery and being ~34 when he plays next is not great. Kelce is 36 so obviously its possible but Kelce has never had something like this to come back from.
Is 34 that old for a TE? Darren Waller just unretired at 33 and looked good. Tony Gonzalez played until 37. Antonio Gates 38. Marcedes Lewis apparently played in 5 games this season at 41 lol
34 is definitely old for a TE. Guys play longer but usually suck their last few years. Idk if id say Waller looked good he was successful in thd red zone but otherwise he was very meh. Gonzo was a freak of nature when he retired as was Gates. Marcedes Lewis is funny because the last year he was worth a roster spot as a player was when he was 33 hes basically a player-coach these days that throws the occasional block. Dudes the Udonis Haslem of the NFL. Lastly none of those dudes came back out there after an achilles tear and its rare TEs even have it happen although crazy that 2 tight ends tore their achilles within 24 hours.
not too sure tbh, i think hes looked solid in his opportunities but long term would definitely be something to monitor over the offseason. if they dont add a guy to really compete with him for targets then id say atleast for next year hes a really solid play
Is there a question here? It’s much easier to recover from than a whole slew of other prominent injuries. Feel free to do your own “ research “ lolol
I personally k ow several folks who were fully recovered within a few months…. They aren’t nfl players but I mean you just fukin look it up man. Achilles is one of the better diagnoses given the options.
um no its really not. achillies tear will zap your explosiveness. are you really trying to say that an achillies tear for him rn its the worst case scenario? thats an absolutely devastating blow to his career outlook
can you shoot me someone that has tore their achillies at 32, going on 33 in october that has returned to true form. he will be 34 by the time hes fully healthy from this and by then you think he will still be effective?
I think he meant this isn’t a career ender. Achilles repair surgeries are able to reconstruct the tendon more effectively these days, so players can come back. They just aren’t playing at the same level.
It’s not radiation, it’s electromagnetic fields whose levels read 16x higher on their practice field than what you’d get in your home. According to some random YouTuber (so who knows the accuracy) exposure to this level of electromagnet levels results in breakdown of cartilage.
Bruh, just stop, please. Their practice field has been same spot for a loooooooong time. They built their stadium NEXT TO the practice field. It is literally on “DeBartolo drive”
He signed a 4/76.4m deal through 2029 with 40m guaranteed, so in reality it's like a 2 year deal. They could cut him after the 2027 season for minimal losses, but I'm sure they will work something out with him to bring him back on a lower APY deal once his guarantees run out since he's by far the most popular 49er of the past decade and a leader in the locker room.
Yea hes got a ton of work ahead of him just to come back and play a yeae on a prove it contract for a shot at getting a payday at 35. There's just multiples stacked against him. Not saying he cant do it but thats a lot to try and accomplish while hoping it all goes right. Or he can spend the time recovering at his own pace and protect his future health while establishing his next career choice.
8-12 months. The Ravens safety, Ar'Darius Washington, tore his in May of this year and came back before the end of the season. Unless he wants to retire, I have no doubt he'll be back.
If 10 month timeline is conservative he misses most of season. And will be 33 going into 2027. His value in dynasty was already in decline with new younger players emerging like Harold Fannin and Warren.
Could be, and I don’t think he’s anywhere near the player Kittle is. Agree with you on the late tight ends this year, lots of up and comers for next year: Kraft, Loveland, Fannin, Gadsden all come to mind.
This is interesting, and its the common take. I am still not sure. Loveland is terrific, but fannin very good too. Loveland WAY better Offense. Fannin... He almost IS the offense though. Loveland has 5 other players competing for touches. Fannin. Honestly, who?
I think loveland is a great talent, but so far, the off season chatter... i think maybe he is going to get way over drafted.
I think Loveland is going to get hyped up draft season after his late season breakout, Ben Johnson, and Caleb. Bears might trade DJ or Rome in the offseason for draft picks or defensive help, which would boost Loveland's ADP even more... at which point, might not make Loveland a value as teams are drafting him at his ceiling in the late 4th, early 5th round
Fannin passes the eye test, but we'll see what Browns do at head coach and QB this offseason. The floor could be incredibly low with Cleveland, which will likely devalue his ADP
I doubt it's to the moon, guessing he's in that like TE8 range where you can get him nearing the back half of your draft unless someone's in love with him
Same here. 2 tears for me as well. All these nfl and nba Achilles pops make me feel horrible for the players. The recovery from them is shit and I’m no pro-athlete.
So, if you had to pick, maybe now is better. He blows an achiles in his 2nd year at like 23 and he maybe never returns as true to form kittle. I dunno.
He had that recent injury which 100% was a hip drop tackle the league did nothing about. I wouldn't be surprised if that has contributed to this outcome.
Nah it was Kittle, it was against the Colts, I think it was the LB Pratt. You can look at the footage, definite hip drop, Kittle had this to say about it after the game: "It happened [in the] second quarter. We had a drive. I feel like I got hip dropped." The league, of course, did nothing about it.
To be fair, I think the opposite leg but these things aren't disconnected. There's a tendency to compensate for an injury by over-using the "good" side leading to injuries there.
You named 7 people in the whole league. Strong? Lmao. TE is miserable and will always be. After those 7, your 12 man league will be down to shuffling 3-5 point nobodies
I have to volunteer the move away from the power station where their practice field resides. Go anywhere else for one year. Check results post year just in case we are right.
As far as fantasy, this solidifies that if it ain’t McBride you shouldn’t be drafting a TE until very, very late
Tonges, Kraft off an acl, Isiah Likely on a new team, Andrews by himself again, Gadsden, Theo Johnson, Juwan Johnson all huge value plays.
Not even including Loveland who my have played himself to too high of a price
Guys to avoid: Pitts- London back healthy and Penix has different tendencies. Tyler Warren- he’s really eating off his first few games he’s been mid since.
Achilles.🫤
Maybe prisoner of the moment but feels like so many players tearing their Achilles nowadays, way more than in years past
Humans weren't really supposed to be this big and fast.
Bijans jump cuts literally look inhuman
You ever seen the clip of Bijan getting literally folded in half and not missing a single snap? I think he is actually not human.
No
Here ya go, legit looked career-ending
holy shit. never seen that before
Omfg lol. Yeah gross.
lol omg. The the dude that tackled him is a scumbag. Like he wasn’t going anywhere , he was going to drop down
I feel like he was going down for if Bijan actually made the hurdle. He didn't, so instead he hits him right in the back.
Confirmed Robojan
Some are definitely built to be as big and strong as they are.

And on top of that, athletic shoes that are meant to give you extra traction inherently place more strain on our knees, ankles, etc. Cleats are probably worst of all, because they allow movements that would normally cause your foot to slip or the grass to give away
Yes! Cleat/turf combo. Actual grass gets torn up. This turf doesn't budge and all that force is exerted through the foot
Happening a lot in the NBA too
EMF exposure near stadium
theres no way hes playing for most if not all of the year next year. absolutely brutal man. keep an eye on tonges tho
Most likely a career ender at his age and position.
i agree, even if he comes back hes gonna be way less effective than he currently is
But that's not a career ender...
Kittle's actually super cool and an awesome guy and a baller. Kelce is an absolute tool.
NOt sure how that factors in, but it should... somehow. Someway.
You don’t know these people, you just watch them on TV
The side that they portray is that Kelce is a tool and kittle is cool.
Kelce hasn’t been 31 year old Kelce but he was still #3 in yards for a TE this year at 36, and led in YAC.
Kelce has a little more reservation, finesse, and he's lasted longer because of it
It's possible he becomes a better fantasy weapon. They stop using him as an extra linebacker all the time and just throw to him
No way. He’s only 32, he’s one of the best TEs in the league, and medicine keeps getting better and better. He could definitely come back, even if it’s more as an above average starting TE rather than an elite one.

Insane. Guessing not recommended, but turns out it’s not necessary lol!
Tbf Rodgers is a pocket passer and Chubb was never fantasy relevant again. Not saying kittle couldn’t, but this could functionally end his career. Especially as a relevant fantasy player

That puts him at 34 if he plays again.
Either you’re not a doctor or your math is wrong…. Achilles is on average a 6 month injury
That is the most optimistic time frame and almost never the case for athletes. The athlete estimation is 9 to 12 months and Greenlaw made news for coming back so quickly to play in the super bowl 10 months after his tear. 32 with Achilles is bad. I would rather have guys like Hunter Henry next year.
You'd rather have the guy without the Achilles injury? Hot take.
Lolol, yah cool. Please go apply for a role at the Seahawks !!
people say this about every big injury for someone over 30 and half the time it makes no sense
I mean hed be pretty old for a TE by the time he came back. He might be effective still but coming off an achilles tear and recovery and being ~34 when he plays next is not great. Kelce is 36 so obviously its possible but Kelce has never had something like this to come back from.

hockenson
At least he has the Deal Deer to help.
Disagree, strongly. Achilles is one of the most recoverable injuries and kittle is a fucking BEAST
You think Tonges is good enough to be their long term plan? Their roster as is right now it’s obviously him but do they leave it that way?
Long term, no. Short term he has proven he can handle the load.
I’d guess tongess will get paid elsewhere and Niners will draft their replacement.
not too sure tbh, i think hes looked solid in his opportunities but long term would definitely be something to monitor over the offseason. if they dont add a guy to really compete with him for targets then id say atleast for next year hes a really solid play
Achilles aren’t actually that hard to recover from, within comparison.
uhhhhh what..?
Is there a question here? It’s much easier to recover from than a whole slew of other prominent injuries. Feel free to do your own “ research “ lolol

Still not seeing a question here. But also can’t make heads or tails of your pov so yah kinda hard to continue this…?
Do you have some sort of expertise to refute my claim?
can you shoot me someone that has tore their achillies at 32, going on 33 in october that has returned to true form. he will be 34 by the time hes fully healthy from this and by then you think he will still be effective?
Aaron Rodgers’s, Kirk cousins…. There I gave you two.
We good?
In case another is in order and you’re typing your response now…. Terrel Suggs ok with you?
Those are just the poor souls who had it after 30 but it’s not hard to recover from at 29 or 28 so just I dunno stop???
whatever you think man lol, just saying that acting like this injury isnt anything but catastrophic is ridiculous
Serious, absolutely. Catastrophic? Ask for professional advice before stating opinion.
Y’all never learn
Dumb comment, elaborate.
I think he meant this isn’t a career ender. Achilles repair surgeries are able to reconstruct the tendon more effectively these days, so players can come back. They just aren’t playing at the same level.
Dummer comment, elaborate further…
[deleted]
He wasn’t responding to you homie
Yours isn’t the dumb comment.
my b lol
SF is cursed
Next time don’t build your practice field next to a power substation.
So do you think the aliens are up to it or are the witch people are doing this?
[removed]
It’s not radiation, it’s electromagnetic fields whose levels read 16x higher on their practice field than what you’d get in your home. According to some random YouTuber (so who knows the accuracy) exposure to this level of electromagnet levels results in breakdown of cartilage.
Who knows, but it sounded good to me.
If it’s non ionizing radiation I don’t understand the mechanism by which it would damage human tissues (but I’m not an expert in EMR so 🤷♂️)
Ah yes, sounds perfectly safe.
Bruh, just stop, please. Their practice field has been same spot for a loooooooong time. They built their stadium NEXT TO the practice field. It is literally on “DeBartolo drive”
I thought these are usually a full year recovery time aren’t they? Seems like he could miss the entire year if this is the case.
Yes unfortunately he is probably done for next season too
And at his age, with his injury history (and the fact that he will be in the broadcast booth once he retires), it may be a career ender.
I don’t see this… I’m pretty sure he’s the highest paid te in the league with a bunch of years left. He’s gonna play and make that money.
He's 32 and they just paid him a 4 year contract ... wow
Not really a 4 yr deal based on the guarantees but yeah
How many does it end up being?
He signed a 4/76.4m deal through 2029 with 40m guaranteed, so in reality it's like a 2 year deal. They could cut him after the 2027 season for minimal losses, but I'm sure they will work something out with him to bring him back on a lower APY deal once his guarantees run out since he's by far the most popular 49er of the past decade and a leader in the locker room.
Is 32 that old?
He will be close to 34 and coming off an Achilles injury. Absolute chance he doesn't ever get back into playable health.
There's a good cahnce he doesnt return. CHance he does. very small chance of being "kittle" again.
I mean if you want to say 1% means there’s a chance, sure
He's an old man in NFL years, yeah.
34 When he’s back1+ year removed. He may be a different player entirely at that age with history
Greenlaw tore is Achilles in the superbowl and was back in December. Took him about 10 months
Absolutely. But he's not done. And TE doesn't require as much athleticism (see: Zach Ertz). We'll see
Nah 6month injury, especially for a guy like kits.
Poor guy just can’t stay on the field this year.
Feels like his whole career he’s been playing hurt and it’s finally catching up.
George Brittle
Was praying I wouldn’t see it while watching his leg. I saw it.
Ugh.
Yep, looked like Achilles. Likely going to affect his status early next year. Tonges a sneaky draft pick next year?
I think he’ll get hyped to the moon and there were so many good tight ends late in the draft this year.
Could be, and I don’t think he’s anywhere near the player Kittle is. Agree with you on the late tight ends this year, lots of up and comers for next year: Kraft, Loveland, Fannin, Gadsden all come to mind.
Loveland might be TE3 by ADP next year, depending on Kraft recovery. Fannin and Gadsden probably in the TE 6-8 range.
I doubt it's to the moon, guessing he's in that like TE8 range where you can get him nearing the back half of your draft unless someone's in love with him
He won’t be that sneaky because everyone’s going to be talking about him as having top-5 upside all offseason.
I bet he goes as like the TE8 next year. Which would make him a risky pick.
Kittle may not even play next year.
I am going with 70-30 he's done.
He’s out next season too
The 49ers being as competitive this year as they’ve been with these injuries is insane man. Feel bad for Kittle
SF: No more kittle, CMC, and aiyuk and deebo. Gonna be weird.
Achilles is a 10-14 month recovery, draft Tonges next year, kittle isn’t coming back until 2027
Have him in a playoff league.. but fuck all that shit, the league is better when George Kittle is healthy :(
IMO kittle is super likeable. And for me, in fantasy, that matters. I like cheering for guys who are cool.
I love that goofball.. favorite little moment every is when the camera panned on him on the field and he did a little “hehe” 😂
Tore my achilles twice last year.
That slow mo shot where you can see it pop with a calf muscle jiggle straight up triggered my ptsd.
Same one? Man. sorry to hear that. Rough.
Ya. Tore my achilles almost exactly a year ago. Tried healing it through non operative procedure. 2nd session in PT and it snapped again. It sucked
Same here. 2 tears for me as well. All these nfl and nba Achilles pops make me feel horrible for the players. The recovery from them is shit and I’m no pro-athlete.
That sucks. He's such a great and classy player.
[deleted]
Ah cmon. Kittle is such a great teamate.
Affect his ability for the beginning of the season?? He’s 32. He’s not playing at all next season.
Beginning? Guy not playing next season
George Kittle is 32 years old. If it is indeed his achilles, his career is almost certainly over. 😥
Dude was pushing through a lot of lower leg stuff it feels like. This is the end result.
George Brittle again
Jake Tonges is a must roster for Kittle managers. Hell might be worth rostering in TEP leagues even if you don’t own Kittle
Pretty crappy to see anytime but at his age that's real rough
So, if you had to pick, maybe now is better. He blows an achiles in his 2nd year at like 23 and he maybe never returns as true to form kittle. I dunno.
Immediately after.
COMERCIAL: DEAL DEEEEEEER!
That sucks, I like Kittle.
He had that recent injury which 100% was a hip drop tackle the league did nothing about. I wouldn't be surprised if that has contributed to this outcome.
That was Persall, not Kittle
Nah it was Kittle, it was against the Colts, I think it was the LB Pratt. Too bad. Helluva nice run. Should be fun to watch doing pre game broadcasts
EMF Substation got another one
Tonges a TE1 next season?
Absolutely devastating
Time to retire. Ggs Kittle
This really hurts the 49ers chances next season also. Just brutal.
Sucks but TE is still super strong next year. McBride, Bowers, Fannin, Warren, Loveland, LaPorta, Pitts.
Likely a September 2027 return for Kittle. Could be a career ender though!
Prayers up for Kittle
Those electromagnetic fields are terrorizing the entire 49ers roster.
And they still won
Undraftable next year.
Dude won me my league this year with Purdy week 17. I really hope he can make a recovery. One of the coolest players in the whole nfl
I wouldn't count on him in 2026. What a bummer.
George Brittle, I love the guy and he's a helluva player, but he seems to be always getting injured
Yeah the end is near.
Tf is this guy made of ? Brittle Kittle
Seems like that now lol
[deleted]
Achilles and ACL are different.
First , hope he’s okay.
Brock Bowers and Harold Fannin don’t exist to you?
Poor guy is made of glass
Injury prone
