• Yeah, the writing has been on the wall for awhile now. Hopefully he can land somewhere good.

Lions were a good spot for him. He was a perfect complement to Gibbs.

Still is, but him and some fans are really freaking out from him getting the ball 4 time less per game compared to last year. Its sort of crazy the overreaction our fans are having to this. Guess what? He stayed fully healthy this year and didn't miss any games. Last 2 years, with the workload he had, he missed multiple games each year.

EDIT: Didn't mean to imply he was freaking out outwardly, mostly fans, but internally enough to retweet and tweet cryptic shit sure.

I'm not sure I can say he's freaking out. He still wants to play and probably start. Gibbs has been more effective with the touches. Its not a bad idea for the Lions to seek out a trade for Monty who turns 29 this off season and gives him at least one more chance at starting, since its obvious that the Lions wants Gibbs taking as many touches as he can.

it is hard to say that monty is less effective with the touches when they're schemed differently, monty takes many of the draw plays right up the middle to open up lanes outside for gibbs

that's fair, although I think I made a poor word choice. In any event, I do think Monty is still a starter in the league but just needs a team that can utilize him like the Lions.

Totally agree, I think Monty is really good and was criminally under-utilized this season

Yeah but the core problem is Gibbs is still getting better and you can't really blame the Lions for wanting Gibbs to be more involved on offense. A trade really is beneficial for both sides here.

Also, the lions used a first round pick on Gibbs, they want to look smart for trading up to get him. Keeping Monty the starter and splitting snaps doesn’t do that.

Nah, despite the community's ire, I thought it was a smart pick at the time. They don't have shit left to prove because Gibbs maybe arguably top 5 RB in the league and fantasy.

Nah they gave gibbs a ton of inside and goal line work last year

I didnt' say hes freaking out, its the fans who are. I'm okay with trading DMO if hes goign to be unhappy with this role and hes making a lot of money right now...

He's not freaking out but he's been posting cryptic messages on Instagram since mid-season that make it sound like he's not happy with his role.

Didn't really mean to imply he was outwardly, but internally I'm sure he is. Its just been those cryptic tweets and retweets etc. Hes clearly unhappy though.

"but him and some fans are really freaking out"

    "I didn't say he's freaking out"

"Him" freaking out "internally" is still him freaking out though.

AJ Brown was making a lot of money to block at the start of the season. Players should be able to vent their frustrations with the role they're given, even if they're making a boatload of money. It should signify that the team needs to re-evaluate the position since its likely the player got the money through starting or being really effective in the past (see Cooper Kupp).

My main point is that its probably best to trade him for both sides as its likely that this is Monty's last chance to start due to his age and the Lions will probably need to start looking at a younger replacement RB that can start to learn behind Gibbs.

And my fear with Gibbs next year if he takes on the workhorse role.

I doubt he does. Lions will probably draft a rb this season. Gibbs will probably stay in that 20 touches a game range while a rook takes 8-10 per game.

So where is this rookie RB drafted? They have 7 picks in 26. They aren’t using their 1st or 2nd. So a 4th? Probably not, still have too many holes elsewhere. So that leaves 5th-7th…

Where you’ll find guys talent wise like Sione Vaki and Jacob Saylors…but worse cause they’re rookies.

Look at the amount of touches they gave Teslaa this year. Not very many, and he’s a guy they fell in love with and poured a lot of draft capital into. Not to mention he can actually make plays.

I hope to god they figure this Monty thing out and there’s not some 6th round jobber trying to fill this role next year.

Gibbs is HIM in his prime

DET will ride him til the wheels fall off if theyre smart. He might be the most talented running back in the "most talented/versatile/explosive running backs in the league" tier of CMC, Achane, Bijan, and Gibbs

I hope he gets to touch the ball 400 times next year. Gibbs cant get hurt if he just keeps blowing past defenders 😂

I am starting to consider the conversation that gibbs is 2026 1.01 over bijan and chase and puka.

Puka and Bijan I gotta wait and see what the roster looks like in June or July... Achane same deal, he has the talent to be in the 1.01 conversation, I just want to see what coaches/QBs/O lines/defenses theyre working with

If I had to draft today for next season it would be very hard for me to take Chase or JSN or CMC over Gibbs in PPR

I draft 5th in a very important, 12 team superflex. I can honestly say I botched the draft rounds 1-4 last year. I knew what I was doing was risky, and it went south. Take your chances...

Anyway, I'd like to not botch rounds 1-2 in my draft this year ! lol. I do a great job with later rounds, waivers, etc, and have done quite well in prior years but rounds 1-4 i crippled myself with "swing for the fences" and ended up losing my season (effectively) but having 3 of the 4 be busts for much of the season.

OK... piont being, 5th spot in a 12 team SF. Allen, Bijan, Gibbs, Puka, JChase, Achane. I am going to get one of them.

What am I saying? Nothing. Its january and I am talking to myself out loud.

I’m in a 12 team and picking 5th next year.

I’m hoping to snare Achane there.

I assume the first 4 picks will be Gibbs, Bijan, Puka, Chase

I do think some of the freak out was fair. There were times when the offence was clicking pretty well (particularly the run game) under Monty and then they'd just lean on Gibbs and it'd stall out for the rest of the game.

It's hard to say if Monty would have kept clicking, but for fans watching, I can't blame them for forming that association.

NFL fans freaking out over the possibility of something? No...that can't be.

The Lions sub is insufferable right now with Monty. I love Monty but it makes financial sense for the Lions to move on.

If they trade him with a post June 1st designation they save $6m in cap. If they trade him without the June 1st designation they save $3.5m. Meanwhile his cap hit next year is $8.3m. That’s a pretty significant difference between saving either $3.5m to $6m, or taking on an $8.3m cap hit.

We saw a multitude of ways just this past season of teams getting a solid RB2 for cheap. Cowboys got Javonte Williams for $3m. Bears got Monangai with a 7th. Steelers got Gainwell for $1.8m. There are cheap ways to acquire a RB2 where you still save significant money with their contract compared to the $8.3m cap hit if you retain Monty.

Rant over lol I just needed to get that off my chest and if I posted that in the Lions sub I’d get downvoted to oblivion.

Not towards the end. Gibbs started to take over and Monty's usage kept going down and down.

For example, Gibbs out-touched him 22-10 in the last game, that's 2-1. That may ideal for the team but definitely not ideal for him.

The reality was Gibbs looked better even in short yardage situations. The Sonic and Knuckles thing was fun, but if Sonic is both faster and stronger, you don’t really need Knuckles.

  • Wonder if the Saints would be interested given that the wheels are falling off of Kamara and Estime isn't much of a bruising back

It’s crazy that that’s the reputation Estime has now. In college he was one of the most bruising backs I can remember

What even happened with him. I was looking at my 2024 football cards and was like wait estime was a rookie in 2024 with the broncos and now he's on the saints. That's not super common lol

What's not super common? Round 5-7 guys get cut and switch teams after a year all the time, especially at the RB position.

He got hurt early in his time with the Broncos, came back to a minor role, then got beat out by Tyler Badie for that role. They cut him after the year, he got cut from the Eagles last offseason, then landed on the Saints.

Ironically Badie himself got drafted in the 6th round in '22 to the ravens, didn't even make the team the year he was drafted, then signed with Denver. Happens all the time.

True, I guess I didn't realize how late he was drafted

I can't imagine managing to get drafted and thinking, "Yes, I finally made it," and then not even making the team lol... what a kick in the nuts. At least he got picked up by someone else.

I think alot of these guys know. They might celebrate with friends and family when they get the call but when you get down to that round 6-7 range it's really no different than getting on as an undrafted player. Teams have virtually zero invested in you. In fact most would argue that it's significantly better to get on as an undrafted player because you might get some choice as to where you're going and you're signing for one less year generally so, if you are a good player, you're going get paid a year earlier.

Brock Purdy, who famously went as the last pick in the draft, lost $50m plus compared to if he just didn't get drafted, went to the 9ers, and everything else was the same. And he was probably totally stoked when he got the call.

This is a really good point.

Broncos drafted Harvey and signed Dobbins, and their other two back are pass catchers cuz Payton needs that for his system. Estime was the odd man out of 5 backs in a fairly complicated RB system.

To be fair I'm not watching a lot of Saints snaps, but every time I did it felt like he was getting stuffed at the line

I haven’t watched the saints this year at all but I will say running into a bunch of kids 18-22 is a lot different then running into a bunch of adults that are paid millions to stop you lol.

Estime came out at 20. Still a fresh 22. I think he can measure up better with age like some do

I think people are underESTIMEting his ability to run between the tackles

Having watched every game of his this season, he's turning into that guy for us. Dude was breaking tackles left right and centre. Was legit awesome to watch. He isn't explosive but he can get you yards. Could defo be a Mark Ingram type for us

Yeah, the Saints do great things with former Lions RBs lately. Just ask league touchdown leader Jamaal Williams.

Picking 7th..Jeremyah Love sitting there is a lot more enticing than Old Monty.

Chiefs about to trade up for love

I’d think the chiefs would prioritize their 1st round pick on oline over rb. Even though they are struggling with both oline and rb. Protecting mahomes is more valuable than a running game, which won’t work without a great oline either.

Drafting a top lineman will both protect Mahomes and improve the running game. A RB bust would make both actively worse. There is a reason conventional wisdom in football is building from the lines out.

Absolutely build the line. It shouldnt even be a discussion. A good line hides a host of sins.

Love is the best RB prospect since Bijan. He isn't busting. I get what you are saying though.

Chiefs more likely to trade for Monty. Chiefs are where old RBs go to die.

Just like the Ravens are where old WRs go to die

Would be a weird move for a team probably not competing. Monty will be 29

Second year head coach and QB in a wide open division. I wouldn't make the move, but I think they have a good chance to be next year's worst-to-first

Yeah I was going to say. It doesn't seem like they are competing - but it's a weak division as we saw this year - and they were arguably playing the best of the teams in that division. So they might not be a 1 or 2 seed or realistically a good shot at wild card, but they can definitely compete for that division.

Plus they have 8 picks in 2026 - so in theory they could add another threat at WR, have Monty be the main back, and load up at other positions.

Idk I think Kamara and Neal will be a fine duo next year and they have other needs. I’m really bummed Neal got hurt before the offense found their stride. I liked him as a prospect and I think he’s a huge buy low in Dynasty.

    It'll be NealSZN next year.

I think maybe right. Miller actually looked good, not jsut :good for miller" but again with an injury. I think Neal could be the sneaky Javanta/ Dobbins ; chuba type play late round that pays off in fantasy.

If I go heavier WR eaerly, i'll have my eye on neal (and corum)

As a saints fan I sure as hell hope not. Estime actually ended up looking really great to end the year he could be finding his footing in the nfl now. Chances are they draft one though. If they went the pool of available RBs I’d much rather someone like Kenneth Walker imo

I can see them taking Love

That would be a good landing spot. I was thinking the Chiefs could use him.

That would be a bad move. I could possibly see the Ravens trading to have dual headed running backs or the Chiefs if the price is right but no team off the top of my head is a Monty a way from a Superbowl.

  • This has Gibbs going down early and then wishing they still had Montgomery written all over it

Dont you put that evil on us!!!

    That's Jacob Saylers music.

No chance they don’t add a rookie or vet to pair with him.

Allgeier is a pretty similar style to what they want. Could easily get him "cheap" for 2-3 years. Dowdle can also catch a little and he'd probably be a cheap 1 year deal.

I can't see allgeier signing to be a backup again unless they pay a premium

There's currently a bit of a pay tier break between Pollard at 7m+ and Mason, Najee, Singletary, Warren at 5-6M. Then another big tier break to around 4M. I can see Detroit or anyone else going around 6M/year for Allgeier. Feels like an appropriate range. I don't think he's getting the 8-9M starter money.

    Agreed, both perfect options

Nah, this has were gonna take cheaper back in the draft and go from there. Gibbs is unquestionably the starter and bell cow. They just need someone to give him some rest and have a different play style

Finding a decent bruiser early down RB has to be one of, if not the easiest position to fill in the league. That's how they got Montgomery in the first place, just as a ho hum free agent they signed for $6M a year.

    Damien Pierce.

Dudes barley worth a roster spot. We can get someone equally as talented or better in the draft.

I know... I was being facetious. Remember his rookie year though... he was actually pretty good on a bad team. He was a great flex for me for the beginning of the seaosn.

He's not a bad straight on banger, but I guess just never translated to other O schemes?

Hey STFU man with this juju

DMO is making a lot of money to just be there in case Gibbs gets hurt... just saying.

Not true, they are both used an integrated into the offense.

This year DMos usage went way down

Did it tho? He had 716 yards this season vs 775 last year.

He had 39 fewer touches than last year and he missed 3 games in 2024. If you extrapolated out last years usage for 17 games, he would have had 85 more touches than this year. That's a pretty big drop off when you are talking about 5 touches a game.

Trade DMo and draft a RB in the 3rd/4th is the way to go

We don’t have a 3rd this year. Much more likely we take one in the 5th or later. Hopefully we’ll shore up the OL so it won’t really matter who we take.

    This was exactly my thoughts.

  • uggh he is still good

I hate the script on him rn. He's a talented back and because they don't scheme him properly, everyone's acting like he's a B tier RB and some shit backup behind Gibbs. Put some respect on David Montgomery's name

Monty had a few runs at the start of the season that made me super excited for him this fantasy season. Dude smashed through tackles and had amazing burst for the first 10 yards. Legit thought he was going to get 15 TDs. Gibbs just flew faster and higher.

it could be a double attack.....Montgomery is legit

fr, always been the man. He's one of my favorite pure rushers in the league. Always gave me nick chubb vies. Wish BJ would bring him back to the Bears so my boy can feast again.

I mean yeah he obviously is, I’m sure he is a little tired of wasting the good years he has left as a backup to Gibbs.

  • Gibbs to the moon next season!

You really think so? Gibbs or Bijan?

Bijan could explode even more next year now that ZR is no longer the OC.

Tbf we say that everyday year. No hate to him, but the day Algeier is off the team, Bijan is exploding. Bijan keeping pace with top3 rbs without nearly as much tds.

Tyler Algeier is a free agent this offseason fwiw.

If Stefanksi goes to ATL than Bijan is easily the top pick

I’d go Bijan of the two. Detroit has worsening issues on their line and the offense needs to improve. Bijan has done amazing things on not so great teams and hopefully a new coach utilizes him to his fullest potential, i.e. less Algier near the goal line.

Gibbs has a better coach, qb, and situation.

    Beyond the moon

    Gibbs to the sun

    No thats Amon Ra

  • Imagine how good he’d look in a bears uniform

Somebody should photoshop that right now!!!

Monagai honestly does his role better

Love Kyle but he isn’t better than Monty and I thought Monty was only slightly above average. Monty has WAY better hands though, similar bruising running style and appears a touch faster than Kyle.

You’re not the first RB drafted in your draft class by mistake.

    Cheaper at least

  • Gibbs bout to go NUCLEAR

  • Chiefs

Everyone to the chiefs makes sense at this point. Pitts likely dmo allgier. My sneaky one and this heavily depends on rice is wandale

I have always claimed that Pitts would be the best replacement for Kelce. It’s a weird gut feeling but I can see him doing numbers there

I don’t see how ATL doesn’t at least franchise tag him

Everyone to the chiefs makes sense at this point.

    Deshaun Watson to KC confirmed!

Imagine Tyreek Hill on the Cheifs

It makes sense, but I don’t think anyone other than the Chiefs want that

    Yesss that would be dope.

I drafted him this year and I'd draft him again in that scenario lol

  • Sonic 💔 Knuckles

  • damn hes my favorite lion

He's overall a really cool dude.

  • Honestly a little surprised they didn't use him more. As a Gibbs dynasty owner, I'm ok with the outcome..

  • Chris Rodriguez would be a perfect replacement for Montgomery

    imo

Montgomery could be a good replacement for Chris Rodriguez too tbh

  • So Gibbs is going 1 or 2 I’d imagine

  • His role shrunk to nothing and the guy can still ball. No need to be in Gibb's shadow

  • We should assume they’ll get a second back to use like Monty, no?

Yes there will be some other back that comes in at times. Even brian Robinson jr plays occasionally.

  • Please come to the Vikings. We love used RBs

    And hate proven QBs

Idk they’d have signed darnold long term if they didn’t want proven qbs

  • Detroit needs to trade for a goddamn strength and conditioning coach for their defense.

  • Low key would be a monster in KC

  • I love Monty, but paying $9 million to a guy you’re only going to give the rock to 9 times a week is not a bargain. I get it.

  • Dan Campbell in shambles rn

I don’t see how. He’s under contract for 2 more seasons. They can keep him if they want but it seems like they are trying to do right by him while also potentially picking up some draft capital

I mean because Dan loves him some monty

  • I definitely would trade him. He could probably start on quite a few teams and you’d get good compensation back

  • If this happens, I am picking Gibbs first overall if I get the first pick in the draft

  • Gibbs to the moon

  • There goes Sonic and knuckles

  • Wouldn't a new OC make staying in detroit more of a likelihood for dmo? I really don't want to see him go...I like his play style and his character. ❤️

  • Dan Campbell should stand pat and call Mike McDaniel as soon as possible.

McD with Thunder (Montgomery) and Lightning (Gibbs). Plus, bubble screen madness of Amon-Ra and Jamo.

    40 PPG easy.

  • I traded Mason for Montgomery, then flipped him for Henderson before Hendo blew up. Helped me win my league for sure.

  • While this should rise Gibbs up draft boards, keep in mind another RB would be brought in, and I would not be shocked when people complain Gibbs is stuck in another split with some new back.

  • Cant imagine there will be much of a market for a 29 yr old rb thatll cost 8m against the cap next seaaon.

  • Lol I had a bad thought. What if McDaniel is OC and Lions trade for Achane for Mongeomery and 2 firsts

Everything about your post is wrong. Every pixel!

Lions need a between the tackles bruiser to keep Gibbs sharp for the big plays, Achane is the opposite of that. Would make 0 sense

  • They should and let him start or get more carries elsewhere. They can bring in a bigger back in the draft as a backup

  • It’s so hard to justify not having Gibbs on the field. He’s just too damn good.

  • Good! Seems like a great guy, hard runner, let Gibbs cook!!

  • A 28 year old RB with almost 1500 career carries… good luck with that. They’ll probably get a late round pick back at best.

  • They'll keep him. Depends on who new OC is and how he would be utilized. Gibbs is better obviously but Monty good in short yardage and pass protect.

  • Finally, 2026 is the year to draft Gibbs Top 5.

He went Top 5 in the last two years of my league. Thank the resident Bama fan for 2024.

  • “Expected to discuss” - wow, riveting insight

  • TO DENVER PLEASE!!!

  • Bring him to Denver. That russ wilson cap space is available next year!

  • Watch him get traded to the Falcons or Dolphins to really fuck with us

  • It’s like people are forgetting the stretch of bad games Gibbs had to close the season.

  • If so then Gibbs gonna go 1.01

  • Expected. He isn't the only guy it may hurt to lose, but I think he has the most market value versus his role. Remember the guy we lost before we got him? Few can pull it up fast!

We can afford to trade a few real weapons on offense. Get O line depth!

  • Hopefully he can go to a franchise actually capable of winning a Super Bowl

  • The Cowboys could use him. He’s still got some gas

  • When K9 walks I wouldn’t be mad if we picked him up

  • Never understood the big extension

  • Great player but I can’t imagine he’d return much in a trade. 29 year old RBs with a high cap number.

  • Now the Seahawks and Charbs

  • It was a great run.

  • I mean they won’t get much for him.

  • He had a great run in Detroit, but it makes sense that they're trying to move him at this point. I'd love to see him land somewhere like New Orleans.

  • Gibbs to the moon, amirite?!?!

  • Don’t celebrate Gibbs until the draft is over. They could easily fill the power role with a cheaper mid round draft pick.

  • Crazy how they used him this year. We need to hold him and focus on improving our line

  • Assuming Conner is gone, he could be solid with the Cardinals

  • Between this and potentially Mike McDaniel getting hired as OC it's been a great week for Gibbs

  • He’s developing what seems likeFrank Gore like durability end of career. He’s got multiple support years left in him.

  • Panthers need their next veteran RB….

    They have Jonathan brooks actually

  • Cowboys would be nice

  • If lions can get the double whammy of hiring Mike McDaniels and trading Monty we might need to have a discussion about the 1.01

  • Here are the teams that seem to make sense:

Cardinals-After James Conner went down, they had an absolute dumpster fire of a run game and I believe Conner's contract is also up.

Commanders-If they don't believe in Bill, they could bring him in

Texans-They have Woody Marks but he could replace Chubb

(If he's cut and not traded)

Bears-Reunited with Ben Johnson. No way he gets traded in division.
