  • Hell, editorial has multiple times done their best to show what unrestrained Punisher vigilantism is. They still don't get the message that he isn't just some guy taking on gangbangers and pedophiles. Like that's part of it but Punishers big villains have always been the guys running the show and their corrupt lackeys.

In the original Civil War series, Frank Castle ends up helping the "good guys" who are against super hero registration. In one bit of the main story several C list villains offer their support to the "good guys." They come into a meeting where Captain America and a bunch of other heroes are talking. Well good old Punisher just pulls out his gun and executes those villains. Cap is rightfully pissed and starts beating the ever loving shit out of Castle, who will not fight back. Cap wants him to fight but Castle says, "Not against you." Cap then tosses his ass out of the hideout and Spidey is talking with I think Patriot and drops the line of "Cap is probably the reason Castle went to Vietnam. Same guy, different war." To which Cap responds, "Wrong. Frank Castle is insane."

Captain America, the pinnacle of being a boyscout and good person in the Marvel universe knows exactly what kind of person Castle is. If Captain America thinks you are insane, there is no reason ANYONE should admire you.

Yup, he did not lay a hand on cap. He would not raise a hand to cap. Steve Dillon’s run with Garth Ennis, as the writer was probably the best and funniest books of the series

Also, check out Ennis' "Punisher Max." It gets even better.

Holy shit, that is straight-up perfidy. That is coward behavior. I mean, I get it, bad guys and all that. But Jeezus

He is some gangbanger and pedophile, lol, the very scum that the Punisher character was created to defend against.

    His character literally KILLS cops.

It enrages me how they think a character like Frank Castle would ever be on the same side. FFS, even the most recent episodes of Daredevil had a whole long lovely scene where he killed a room full of fan boy cops.

Because they only ever see the surface level, they look at the pictures and that’s it.

They see Castle torturing and killing criminals and that’s it, they see the torture porn and clap and cheer.

Same as people who laugh at the slapstick level of jokes on shows like The Simpsons, and have no clue about any other, deeper layers. (Not that I always understand the deeper layers either, I know I'm not as well-read as many of the writers and others who worked on that show. One I got was about the film Rashomon when Homer goes "That's not how I remember it...", and that's because happened to watch it in a class for school...)

Try telling someone like that the simpsons started off as a slice of life family sitcom and they understand it.

Those who only go surface level on the things they are supposed to “love”.

Hell id put money down on most the facists who love the punisher haven’t even read anything or seen the movies, only look at the covers and listen for a few moments to the actor who plays him (who is a shill for the police)

There have been four actors who played Punisher. Which one are you referring to?

To me, I’ve seen all the punisher movies Ray Wize was pretty good Dolph Lundgren not so much Thomas Jane. It was good some of it was taken out of the comic book, but John Bernthal for me, just breaths the character.

John Bernthal COMPLETELY inhabited the Punisher. A perfect blend of "I am very good at killing, and that's not a good thing, but it's what I do," mixed with "I am suffering from severe PTSD and every day I wake up is another slap in the face from God"

Anyone combining Trump, the American flag, and the punisher skull is not a deep thinker. The Simpsons is a bit too cerebral for them.

Ren and Stimpy would be too intellectual for them.

Paw Patrol is too cerebral for them.

Because they only ever see the surface level, they look at the pictures and that’s it.

Like how they think Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is a patriotic song just because of the title.

So they're like Moon Knight fans that only see the wacky edited comic panels?

Corrupt cops, didn't kill them for being fans

I doubt they think he would be on the same side. I think they are using the symbol much more loosely. One, it's a cool skull symbol. Two, it's for a character called the punisher. You can be solely familiar with those two details and it would work for this kind of use. It's like Calvin pissing on a Ford logo or whatever. Calvin's opinions of Fords or public urination aren't really relevant to people's use of the image even though it's very much against what Calvin would do.

Think the other way around. Castle is a gun-ho vigilante that executes "criminals" with no regard for law. That's what these police aspire to be.

This is nothing new, the trope of maverick policeman that skirts around the law is as old as the badge.

Punisher just shows best how much they don't care for law and order.

Yeah, and I'm not sure Trump would far much better... although after making direct contact, he'd need Bucky's arm.

So, a Punisher that kills even more cops than usual?

I'd buy an issue of Castle smashing ICE scum.

That’s genius actually. Smashing ICE scum and all the cops who flex his logo

How the hell did he do that with gloves on? I would have a hard enough time with the ability to use my nails

    Because it's a comic book.

Bahahahaha. Yeaaahhhh, look, I am cackling THAT is what broke the realism of a Marvel comic for mate.

This idea that every single thing in entertainment needs to have some kind of symbolic underlying meaning really needs to stop.

Like, there's looking at something in a critical lens, than there's just looking for reasons to be upset. 'I didn't like X movie because I felt that in the 3rd act the pacing dropped down, which pulled me out of it.' sweet that's fine.

'I don't like X movie because there's an explosion that tosses someone, and in real life they would have been exploded.' its a movie, suspend some disbelief

Agreed. Even movies that are trying to be realistic. I try not to let things that I notice bother the experience too much.

That being said, I am not a master of all knowledge, and I am sure there is plenty of shit that is unrealistic that I completely gloss over and don't realize.

The only film recently that I saw that was really good and realistic, was Warfare. And frankly, I don't want every movie to be like that.

That kind of hyper realism is good in context, but in the sense that we're telling stories and mimicking reality not simulating it, I want to see cool shit on screen.

If I wanted complete realism I'd just go fucking watch Ukraine drone videos.

Just release the new comics and have him fight the government and trump. Bam, it's now woke, or whatever buzz word the old people are calling stuff fox news tells them to hate.

Theres gotta be a copyright on the original. I gotta assume the creator can sue for anyone altering and selling that image

The sticker in the OP post would probably be classed as a parody and/or fair use. It is an original artwork, loathesome though it may be, based on the Punisher logo.

Yep. Have had to keep current on Fair Use at a former job, and this would likely get classified as fair use.

I think they’ve done well at showing how the punisher icon being weaponized by police is bad in the DC shows as of late. I was grateful that the show the Punisher was hating on them too

Even Harley Davidson did a punisher engine primary cover. Hate that thing.

Considering the fact that many police officers themselves act like outlaws, I'm not surprised why they would take this symbol as their own. It fits them. An insane guy causing chaos. They justify it with their own biases and notions.

Easy fix, make the Punisher come out as a homosexual. You’ll see that emblem dropped pretty fucking quick.

  • I don’t even understand what this sticker is trying to say, it’s like the MAGAs that start playing Rage Against the Machine.

Don't worry, they don't understand it either.

Punisher big gun, cool gun guy with big gun shoot other people with gun. It really cool when he do that, he just shoot who he want and that really cool. Really badass

I feel like the people who have these stickers, that's just their thoughts on it. No actual idea about his character or purpose

Punisher actually consistantly touches on this, how the wrong people get the wrong message from what he's doing, and he HATES cops who idolize him, for example.

That was a whole subplot of Daredevil: Born Again

Garth Ennis (the creator of The Boys) wrote a great story where these other vigilantes take inspiration from the The Punisher and ultimately wanted to team up with him. Newp...they were criminals and they had to die lol.

Yup, very famous panel where two cops show him his logo sticker on their car.

He peels it off, rips it up, tells them to fuck off, and says their hero should be Captain America not the punisher

It is a bit deeper thought, they all crave an ethnic cleanse and Trump is the tough guy doing it for them... justfascistthings

I've tried talking to people like this, they really just believe what they want and you can't talk them out of it even if they awknoledge they don't know much about it.

For the punisher, if you explained his character they'd likely say he's avenging Americans for all the harm Dems did done wronged to em. Stealing elections, putting trans in their fatty foods etc

As my friend Driftglass says, they're just programmable meatbags that have been told for almost 60 years that the Democrats are the reason their life sucks...never mind the fact that the Republicans were shitting on them the entire time. Fox is great at steering them in whatever direction the party needs them to go.

They have no ability to critically think beneath the surface about the media they consume. See also, thinking 'Born in the U.S.A.' is a patriotic song.

    Op thinks maga reads 🤣

It's conveying "I have a below second grade reading level and I want violence to be committed against those I disagree with"

They rally 'round the family with a pocket full of shells

It means they are Trump followers and they condone violence to put it as simply as possible

It's almost as bad as the Grateful Dead with trump toupee I saw on a bot account a few months ago. Reeeeally missing the message there.

  • Bro they don't read. That's why we're here in the first place. And they don't Google. Which is why they don't know a lot of things. Like how they pay the tariffs and not other countries. They get spoonfed Fox and don't bother fact checking. And everything they hear from Trump they parrot as facts. They don't even remember all the "wars" he stopped. Dude went from stopping no wars, to stopping 8 overnight. They don't even question it. They just parrot. Parrot and ignore the high prices to protect their psyche and pretend it's all better.

To be fair, some google, some are really computer savvy. They just actively, willingly choose sites that are at best propaganda laden. AND try their best to change facts/reality to fit their worldview.

They're trying to create alternate reality with their alternative facts. 🤣🤣🤣

  • These people are like the ignorant Christians who a decade or two ago would have had the altered decal of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes praying in front of a cross.

  • Feel bad for Punisher fans. If someone has a Batman symbol on their car, it means they like Batman. If someone has a Spider-Man symbol on their car. It means they like Spider-Man. If someone has a Superman symbol on their car, it means they like Superman.

If someone has a Punisher symbol on their car, it means they're a boot licking asshole.

Imagine Batman with a horrendous yellow comb over drawn on his cowl. Ugh.

  • Even the punisher himself hates the cosplay of the police force using his emblem. He's not the good guy he's a criminal that follows a code.

  • If this dink actually read the comics hed know that frank castle wouldnt abide this horseshit and would have a few words about it

If he could read at all he wouldn’t be a lot of things

A few words and a few bullets

  • The Punisher would have dragged Trump behind his car after setting him on fire. These guys have no idea what they are talking about

  • You’re assuming they know how to read. They might be able to follow the pictures, but I doubt they’ll understand what’s actually going on. If you asked them who Frank Castle is they’d look at you with the blank stare of the dumbfounded.

  • The police and politicians do not know what Frank stood for, if they did they would run scared from this emblem. While I love the punisher comics, would never condone his methods, as it is just entertainment. But I can understand entertainment from reality, punisher is the antithesis of what they think he is. Literally would do bad things to these people.

  • There is an easy fix. Change Maria to Mario and make Frank a gay icon. I mean with those white boots whose he think he’s fooling anyways? Watch all those skull tattoos get covered up real quick.

    That would be hilarious.

  • People always hijack the good stuff. 4Chan degenerates hijacked Pepe the Frog, German nazis hijacked the swastika, neo-nazis hijacked Slavic swastikas and other designs. Lots in use today. As a Slav sometimes I'd like to use them but I know what people will think.

  • I don't think Frank Castle would like Trump very much. The absolute last thing trump would want is to be in the same room as the Punisher.

  • Looks like Katie Killjoy’s partner anchor from Hazbin Hotel- Tom Trench

    Y'know you're not wrong

  • When I was in the marines we were told to stay away from people with Punisher branding. Especially if we wanted a career as an officer.

Have a feeling things have changed.

  • Do they even associate it with Punisher the character anymore? I never see a guy getting out of a truck with a sticker on it and think "now there's a guy who likes comic books"

I think best case scenario a lot of morons just think "oh that's that cool skull that people I think are badasses have on their trucks...I want one too!"

They like the fantasy of a beefcake white man who kills criminals which in their mind is helpless minorities they can torture and rape.

  • They changed the Punisher logo a few years ago specifically so that it would no longer be tied to these fascist fuckwads who have no idea how much the Punisher hates law enforcement.

  • Yeah I’ve seen this with Batman and a few other comic book characters. There are times I notice where comic characters are just blown out of proportion

  • You gotta understand, these fucks only know 2 things about the Punisher. He's a big buff hero that kills bad guys, and Chris Kyle's seal team used the punisher skull. For these fuckers it's not about knowing the character. They don't give a fuck about Francis Castiglione or the fact that this Italian American child of immigrants does shit he himself deems to be evil but necessary. They don't know nor do they give a shit that he hates cops and the govt that abused and manipulated him when he served in the military. All they see is a guy with a skull on his body armor with big ass muscles in a trench coat killing people they deem undesirables, and know that the Hollywood version of Chris Kyle killed terrorists with the logo painted on his chest carrier. They don't like the punisher. They like the idea of not being over weight slobs and being able to kill people with impunity.

  • It’s just downright funny they still imagine Trump as an active participant, a ‘fighter’ and a strong guy.

Despite never being military, having any fights, nor even fighting back. Despite knowing he doesn’t drive himself, cook, or do chores. Knowing he can’t focus his mind even briefly, never looks into details, never wants to be informed of anything, because it is too much.

That’s not a powerful person. That’s a disrespectful and noisy child.

  • There was a great episode of the 99% Invisible podcast that discussed how the right wing co-opted the Punisher logo. Interesting listen.

  • Yup. Didn't even touch on that. All the "playtriots" who violate the flag code is a pet peeve. I grew up in a small town that is now a Trump cesspool, but I was taught by the American Legion and the Cub Scouts all of the flag code.

  • Why do you think we have a white Jesus? These people don’t read, and if they did read, they’d cherry pick whatever allows them to treat everyone else like shit.

  • Very bold to assume they can read. Had that been the case this probably wouldn't exist yet here we are admiring the irony 😅

  • With how litigious Disney can be I’m surprised they don’t do more about this shit. It’d probably be a Sisyphean task but they have an army of lawyers.

  • Yeah the fat, out of shape draft dodger, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, who's never worked a day in his life sure does remind me of the punisher.

  • Anyone who puts a sticker representing a politician on their car is already cringe AF as it is. This just takes it up several more notches of cringe and pathetic. You have no shame nor dignity if you use Trump as your identity.

  • Around my part of the US - Arizona - our white nationalist have the punisher sticker on their cars - I’m sure a few just think it’s a neat sticker.

Yeah, I'm not too far from AZ. I'm literally about 2 hours from the completely batshit part of SoCal and Western AZ, and the amount of symbology so close to a place like Palm Springs is both astonishing and not surprising

  • The post-Civil War Punisher-Cap arc comes to mind.

Looked it up, Punisher War Journal #6-10 from 2008. "Going West" arc/TPB. The cover from #8 will give you an idea, for those interested. Not sure if I should direct post it, though, considering the times we find ourselves in.

Also, IIRC the classic Punisher origin is that he specifically comes up against the Mafia (called the Maggia in-universe) as a Spider-man villain/Anti-hero. Vaguely recall somoene having alleged ties to organized crime.

  • It’s weird how these days I see people with a Punisher logo as more of a red flag than a green one. Too many people using that logo for all the wrong reasons

  • Side note: the black U.S. flag is also facing the wrong way...I've always had an issue with our country's flag being backwards on some patches of law enforcement. In cinema the good guys in battle are always on camera going left to right and the bad guys right to left...just a thought

  • I saw a car roll past my house the other day branded with US flags and Info Wars branding all over the windows with a skull just like this right on the hood

    I live in New Zealand

I can't help but find it funny though people using The Punisher logo even though they don't know what The Punisher even is just because it looks cool

  • The irony is that they’d also think Steve Rogers’ Captain America would be on their side too. Like he’d be on neither side because they both have their problems.

  • When Garth Ennis first visited the character he made 3 vigilanty wannabes that wanted to join the punisher, they didn't have a good time meeting his standards.

  • The adoption of the Punisher skull as a symbol of Police support, is the most uninformed appropriation I’ve seen. Might as well fly a Nazi flag to show your support for the Jewish community.
