I'm not going to engage explaining it further beyond this reply. For one I'm not sure what culture or country you're coming from, but you're obviously being emotional based on the environment you were brought up at. I can guess, but I don't want to participate in stereotyping you...
Apparently for you this is a foreign concept, while for many other nations/cultures around the world this is absolutely normal. And it's temporary. While on the other hand the circumcision is permanent, and in my culture/part of the world, totally unnecessary. I and the rest of my people live perfectly normal (natural) with the foreskin.
So, where double standards and hypocrisy is coming into play here: you are not infuriated equally to a permanent and unnecessarily body alteration, while being extremely infuriated by this temporary one.
The reason is that they think is better to do it now than later when they would feel the pain, by the moment they decide to have earpieces they wont even remember it, at least where I’m from it’s not only very common, it’s straight up done on all girls right after they’re born.
I remember thinking it was weird when I was a kid, but it seems to be the norm in some places; I can definitely understand the logic of it
It seems cultural. A lot of Latin American countries do it as well.
I don’t know, I don’t feel at liberty to call another cultures processes disgusting.
Is there data on injury, or infection or other complications to the babies? If I saw that I might be much more inclined to be more vocal about the issue.
No you said you don’t feel at liberty to call another cultures processes disgusting. I’m curious if that’s across the board or it stops with ear piercing
Haha go touch some grass dude. You know what yeah, I can draw a line somewhere. And if you could read, I did say that if there was data on long term complications like infection or injury or maybe disfigurement, I would feel more at liberty to be vocal against the practice.
We have that info for genitalia mutilation.
I don’t know if there’s hordes of Latinas, or African American, or middle eastern girls speaking out about the trauma their ears endured as infants lmao.
Just because white people don’t do it doesn’t make it disgusting 👍

mmm... I believe that it meant "Ear Piercing"
What's your take on circumcision?

Ah, the exaggeration of double standards with a sprinkle of hypocrisy...

Because alot of times it makes the kid an accessory to the parents religion. So yeah, double standard.

Hope this helps in adjusting your POV.
My daughter can get her ears pierced when she gets her first job and pays for it from her paycheck.
/when she’s old enough to form a thought

Why not? Some cultures do genital mutilation, are you unable to judge that as well?
So we’re comparing permanently altering and damaging someone’s genitals to an ear piercing?

Idk, some African cultures make permanent markings on children’s faces by scaring them.
I just don’t feel like it’s my choice to say what other people do with their children.
Comparing an ear piercing to genital mutilation just feels like a stretch for me.
Also, just don’t get your kids ears pierced?
