First pic is how I always left the sani bins when I cleaned the bathrooms. Following are multiple instances of people carelessly shoving used products down on top of the bags I folded to hold open since I figured that would make it easier for them. It still happened all the time. Then there’s gum and dip in the urinals.

I just think those bins are poorly designed. If I have to peer into a STINKY ASS period container to see if my stuff will land where it needs to, then it’s a design fault.
If one person made the mistake, you can call them an idiot. If multiple people make that same mistake, then it’s a design issue that should be addressed. Also sometimes the way the bags are placed in there can cause issues.
Definitely design flaw. I’m one of those people who can’t drop my used tampon in the bin in good conscience. So I have to fucking dig in there and adjust the bag myself and it makes me wanna vomit. I spend a good chunk of time washing my hands after
Same. It’s disgusting but what choice do we have? Funnily enough this was NOT an issue I encountered in Japan, so it does NOT have to be an issue here in Canada where I am, and yet here we are.
Yep. I've had to clean bathrooms at a few jobs and this happens far too often. I've also seen people say that they think that bag is for single use, so they take it out, wrap their product in it, and either put in the bin or throw it away. Which, would be fine except now the next person who uses that stall doesn't have a bag so their garbage just gets tossed in the bin unwrapped
And I’ve seen systems in place that do work like that, but it’s not fool proof. One person can ruin it for everyone who uses that stall after them and the janitor.
Edit: I meant to add I usually put a spare bag or two in the bins in case this happened.
Yeah sanitary bins are the worst, yikes.
Yeah at my location we keep the entire fucking roll of bags under just in case someone has the fortitude to replace it.
Sadly all plastic. I respect your effort with the paper
Custodian here. So at the middle school I work at its technically a trash bag for the box and kids r gross. At the church I clean we put maybe 10 of those bags in the box and for the most part they're used correctly.... sometimes the pads are wrapped in the individual bag and left in the box, but most the time they're put in the big trash can. I've been in the janitorial arts for over 20 years now.... the wax bags are being phased out for small trash cans with a little plastic trash bag it seems.
this is the reason i started to carry biodegradable hygiene trashbags for tampons and pads lol
People are gross, but my first thought when seeing that bag in the bin was that it looks like garbage that someone else put in there.
It's not a great system 🤷
I too thought that the bag is garbage. That definitely is a bad system.
Boogers on the bathroom wall always pissed me off and doesn't make sense to me as there are paper towels and toilet paper....
Like why would you even wanna put your fingers on the walls? Fingers that probably went right back up their nose, too...
Janitor here. Thank you!!
They are the worst possible bin ever
When I was a manager at Walmart, an elderly woman stuck her shitty adult diaper in one of those, and I had to clean it. I threw up everywhere. Then I had to clean that.
I gotta say, those metal bins for menstruation products are wild to me. I am from Australia and my first time in North America I was like “wtf are these on the wall?” Such a bad design and all I could think was how small they are, how many times I saw them overflowed or like in the picture, stuff outside the bag. We have menstruation bins with a lid like a library book return 😅 you don’t see what’s in there. Put ya stuff on the ledge, close it and in it goes. Some of them even have a motion sensor and the lid will open for you. At my place of work, a company comes around every week to empty the period bins.
I work at a gas station. This is constant and horrible, and I'm a woman! It's actually almost a relief when I find liquor bottles and pregnancy tests in these instead of menstrual products lol.
Yeah that shit pisses me off so much. It’s integrity folks. Integrity. What you do when no one is watching.
That shit with missing the liner though sends me to the moon.
As one who works for a public school district, it amazes me what kids can do to screw things up but the adults…… some of the adults can’t properly insert their thumb up their butt without someone standing over top of them providing instructions and complementing the job they’re doing.
Womans restrooms are the worst. Ive done cleaning for well over 25 years. It dont matter if its a park bathroom or upscale resturant bathroom, local bar or executive offices, ive found things that shouldnt ever be seen. Woman are vile, nasty creatures in restrooms. Im pretty sure the need for bathroom attendants came from womens bathrooms. As a woman myself, its embarressing to ackowledge. Its shameful to know women wil complain and throw fits if a toilet seat if left up cuz what they do in public bathrooms is disturbing.
I was emptying a trash can (one of those basket things) at the supermarket I worked at and while I was doing so a customer was nearly making eye contact with me as he takes a can and puts it in next to the bag I just tied shut and watches as it falls out of the side onto the floor
I thought you were supposed to stock the container with multiple bags so we can take one, put our pad/tampon in there and then throw it away in the trash by the sink?? I didn’t know some of these just use ONE liner to dispose directly in there- that’s so nasty
Why do you keep taking pictures instead of putting a bag in there?
Well, there are bags in them, I took pics between changing bags to show management so we could hopefully find a solution to the issue.
Some women are the nastiest creatures. I’m a woman who works at a restaurant. Disgusting how they leave the restrooms. Had one woman leave what looked like clumped period blood right smack in the middle of the bathroom.
We do care but we are bare handed - not gloved - and expected to pull those tiny bags apart with someone’s bodily fluids on it to get our used tampons inside. I’m not risking my health and safety for anyone bc no one bothers to give women a viable and usable disposal container.
That’s the whole point of me folding the edges of the bags, so they stay open and products can be dropped in. What happened was often women shoved their products in instead of dropping them. So they were sticking their ungloved hands deeper in the box than they needed to.
Maybe get a job where you don’t need to separate gum from piss cakes. But hey, you do you.
It’s a job that’s gotta get done, and it pays the bills. Most people liked and respected me, I got included on every incentive for every department of the building, and the company is thinking about hiring me on through the company rather than through a contracted cleaning company because they’re tired of dealing with those companies but want to keep me and another cleaner. It has its days, but I’d say I’m alright where I’m at.
You know what accomplishes nothing and doesn’t make anyone respect you? Being an asshole, like you.

Sweet, so you’re volunteering?
