Well, respectfully, I think you're deductions from those observations are a little off.
Zionism is the belief that the Jewish faith requires a sovereign nation, and is the philosophy which led to the founding of the modern day state of Israel. Given the current actions of that country, in specific how they are carrying out a deliberate genocide in Gaza, the entire nation has come under heavy scrutiny, and as such many modern Zionists have become very defensive, accusing everyone who criticizes Israel as a nation of being an antisemite who merely hates Jewish people. (A deliberate distraction from the fact that opposition to Isreal in this current discourse largely comes from the crimes their military are carrying out every day, not the mere fact that they are Jewish) Thus the premise of my joke.
What you're talking about, with people randomly throwing around the word "zionist" for petty media discourse largely comes from the Far Right, as actual anti-semites often believe that the Jews have total control over our culture, and as such often explain mundane problems as small as a movie being bad with the insane assertion that all media is programming designed by satanist Jews. Insane people like that often call media they think is too progressive things like "Zog-slop" or "Zionist propaganda" because they are legitimately insane enough to think one group can micromanage all culture to that small of a degree.
It's very confusing, but it is by no means was a term liberals invented to insult people.
