I personally love management games (satisfactory, cities skylines, etc)
Pretty much all fallout games are solid (-76).
Cloudpunk or any of the saints row games are fun and silly.
A lot of the call of duty campaigns are decent if you're looking for some short bursts of fun that's not too serious.
if you like racing, the Forza horizon games are pretty fun also split second is a fun recommendation
I also like things like Hades or crab champions if you want a roguelike
Any of the Lego games are pretty good and chill
Also, a lot of the simulator games are pretty good (truck simulators, supermarket simulator, etc)
One game I go back to every once in awhile now that they have a decent single player offering is Sea of Thieves (safer seas) You have a pretty good variety of different things to explore and play at your pace.
This. My wife and I have turned our bedroom into a library. Our collection is sort of a legacy to pass down to the kids. Everything from the Shakespeare, Brothers Grimm, the stoics to survival and homesteading and first aid books.
Audiobooks are even better for this. Having someone else read the book forces you to continue consuming storyline, further suppressing inner dialogue and pushing your mind further from reality.
I am sad at how far I had to scroll to find this answer. Yes, books are the OG of escapism. And won’t fry your brain. Can warp opinions, but read enough of them and it will balance out. Cue Reading Rainbow music…
A good RPG. This world might suck, but when you find a really well-done RPG with well thought-out world-building and fun characters... You can live in a better world for a while. Usually about 80 hours.
A nice ride on a Motorcycle. If you arent paying attention and locked into the moment you'll probably crash. When you are riding you are living 100% in the moment. Paintball would be a close second for me. Competative Speedball is really intense
My exact thought as well, when I was new to VR and didn't really know a lot about it I would go into VRChat Murder Mystery 4 game and roleplay as a bartender for shits and giggles, or I'd play A Township Tale and pretend to be a merchant in there and, it really helped me disconnect from reality and relax.
I know not everyone can afford VR or play it but it's an amazing thing I feel that should get more popular ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Playing gacha games because i can finally talk to human-like being, even if they are fake, i can talk to them and they wont tell me i'm wierd, the same with Pokemon games, i can take care of my precious mons like they are everything for me.
Bouta sound like a suburban mom but… books. I’ve begun reading again recently and it’s much more enjoyable than I remember, plus it helps me sleep when I read before bed.
Tie a belt around your neck & tighten it while holding your breath until you hear a buzzing sound in your ears. Count to 5 after you hear the buzzing & release the belt. Please be seated while doing this for safety reasons. You will experience something indescribable for a short time.
books, staring at the sky ,listening to music with eyes closed , nature walks , video games / board games , pottery .... and the list goes on back to when we climbed down from trees
Creating is a great escape. Drawing, writing, 3D modeling and animating, game development, even just daydreaming, just playing in your imagination where anything can be is a great escape.
Aside from that, singleplayer games, animated series or anime, music.
I paint miniatures for gaming. Spending an hour painting something so small really requires you to tune out the world around you. It really clears my head and I always feel better after doing it.
Books! Especially audio books with good voice actors. I highly recommend "for whom the bell tolls" by Jaysea Lynn. It's absolutely incredible! And it's going to be a trilogy🥰 heads up for religious trauma and spicy.
Death
The ultimate escape
Says you. But that actually might be the ultimate form of bringing in reality to light. You don’t know tell you know.

The ultimate life form, huh?
tell that to the dinosaurs in jurassic park
You brought me back?
The fuck you mean you brought me back?
I'm making this your problem!
*angry velociraptor noises
Some might say the final solution.
Came here to say gun but that works too
You came?
Did you not?
Yes. That is the true ultimate escape.
I was going to say something about putting a gun in your mouth
https://i.redd.it/yiednthjuj8g1.gif
Thats still reality
Post Death: Welcome to New Game +1! Every thing is the same but harder now!
Life NG+1 Death Speedrun (Any %)
Everybody dies. That too is reality. Death isn’t a escape, it’s something you can’t escape
W answer
If only
That got dark fast
Well yeah that's what happens when you die

Death is the permanent solution to all life's temporary problems.

You dont know that for a fact...
That was my response beat me to it
The ultimate vacation
The only real answer, close the whole post
Was going to say bullet but you beat me to it
Relatable tbh
The canon ending
Definitely music, a good single player video game (so you don't have to be reminded how annoying people can be on multiplayer games)
Yeah it's always been music for me. Some single player games really pull me in too if they have a great storyline.
Fallout 4, you can spend days just building settlements.
To add to this, give palworld, aska, and valheim a try for base building.
Each one has a different vibe
I like civilization for the city building when chillin solo. Smoke a lil and then play civ
Stop describing me and my Christmas plans.
Skyrim, Witcher 3, Diablo 3 or Animal Crossing are my go to’s.
What are some good single player games? Need recs

Video games. Dreams. But I'd rather to fight with reality than escape it
Lucid dreaming is the first thing that came to my mind. I've actually attempted (with some success) Salvador Dalí's key method quite a few times.
Riding a motorcycle on an open road.
Goddamn right
A face full of cleavage.

Sauce is LittleJ
Music
masturbating to huge titted women
Anime
Agreed plus I would add video games. Anime and video games are the best way to escape the fucked up reality we all live in.
Literally came here to say that, it’s the one thing that keeps me from crashing out
Hentai
and then you get really sad when the good anime ends lmao
Internet
I'd say sleep, sex, or running
Books 📖
This. My wife and I have turned our bedroom into a library. Our collection is sort of a legacy to pass down to the kids. Everything from the Shakespeare, Brothers Grimm, the stoics to survival and homesteading and first aid books.
Life before death.
Say the words!
Journey before destination.
I live to read and read to live.

Video games or going outside
starts with C, ends with n. involves a kind of fuel, lots of land, and heat
in case you're unaware of what I'm talking about, I'm talking about controlled, unsupervised, private open field arson!
Oh, I thought you were talking about being Canadian
We do that but its not controlled nor is it on our land and it most definitely is supervised by us and a lot of beer
Fiction
Studying something you’re naturally drawn to
Scrolling through Amazon and pretending I have the money for all the stuff in my Save for Later.

Alcohol is a drug, a very potent one btw
VR

Aggressive maturation
Playing gacha games because i can finally talk to human-like being, even if they are fake, i can talk to them and they wont tell me i'm wierd, the same with Pokemon games, i can take care of my precious mons like they are everything for me.

VR, it's in the name.
Art. Just the idea of creating something is euphoric & satisfying. Gives me a way to not only escape reality but also show expression.
Beautiful thing about it is anything can be considered art whether it’s drawing, cooking, writing etc.
Face it head on and address the issue(s). You have people that care about you as support.
Music, games, and a good show worth binging
Bullet.
You said best. Not healthiest or wisest.
Exhaustion
Music

Depends on your budget
Objectively the most effective/immersive: VR
the most cost effective, sleep depriving yourself so much that you just start tweaking regardless
Novels.

A really good game
Music or face it and find the escape in the reality
Video games
Accept it is the only real answer. We can't escape.
Minecraft
Like, Subscribing, and hitting that bell
Seeing the great things in the smallest of things
Video games and anime are my favs
Comedic Animated shows and movies. Family Guy, The Simpasons and Azumanga Daioh(best show ever made) are some examples.
Religion
Gaming
Temporarily? Watch a movie, in the long term? It's better you face reality and deal with it.
Try reading.
sleep
go for a long walk tuned in to your favorite music
For me it’s music and Video games
Story based games.
Any kind of anime or games, basically all fictional worlds.
