I loved how the show was actually about an estranged son going back to be with his mom and dad and doing fun activities together every episode. It was really touching and ended on Shinji's birthday party surrounded by his friends and family.
I think it’s better she had little screen time. It puts into perspective how blind Gendo and Fuyutsuki are to the purity of her sacrifice and how they aim to tarnish it out of selfishness. The less we see of her, the more we realize they’ve forgotten to remember her and uphold her legacy, instead opting to try to bring her back instead out of selfishness. Yui being “gone” is just something that they need to accept.
I feel her character works better not being seen, because we are seeing the way peoples’ perception of her shapes their world more than her as a human being. For Shinji, she’s the unattainable ideal mother figure. For Gendo she’s the perfect wife and companion, and the one thing he was unable to control, which led to obsession.
Her effect is less on who she is and more how others project their needs onto her.
Not like we know it no. It would be cool to see her ina flashbacks about mari since she is theorised to know yui and them all in some past orsmtng and kyoko maybe ghendo ajd her wouldve been hotheaded friends or worse lyoko is a ncier asuka
Literally one of my biggest gripes with Rebuilds is that instead of taking their time to develop characters that didnt reveived much screentime in the original anime yet had much importance, they preffered to give even more screentime to Shinji.
As I've read below, and I agree, Yui's character works better as a mysterious figure. The brilliant mother, the puppeteer behind the scenes, out smarting everyone, Gendo, Fuyutsuki and Seele.
He's a character that was largely wasted; he had better development in the manga and could have been used more to benefit the series, although Evangelion is already perfect in itself.
She was in like the whole show tho, almost always with shinji when he needed it most ;)

Well she is Unit 01 so she is on the screen all the time
Real, Yui is the best girl in Evangelion. You could even argue that without her there would be no Evangelion.

Yui’s cool and all, but she didn’t need any more screen time imo. She was in the show just as much as she needed to be to fulfill her role
