So I just checked Amazon. Apparently the blu-ray version is still 300 bucks (which is insane if you ask me) the dvd version is 150. She got it on black friday though for ~90.
The quality difference doesn't really bother me that much on a ~30 year old show, though I might look into getting EoE on blu ray. What I will say is that the audio is a bit... strange? It's the right dub but it seems higher pitched. I didn't have the time yet to look into it but I'm very used to how the voices would sound. I did a 1 on 1 comparison with a clip from YouTube and my gf says she can't hear a difference whatsoever. So maybe it's just me?
Is the edition you got not a Blu-ray? Apart from what I assume are age rating labels on the discs (they look like German ones but difficult to tell at that resolution) it looks exactly like the UK/US Ultimate Edition Blu-ray which doesn't have a DVD version
It's the german edition on DVD. There is a blu ray version of this set as well.
From what I gather the sound quality has to do with pal speedup. I'm kinda "new" to physical media (I'll admit to not having owned or touched a dvd/blu ray since I was like 10) and despite being tech savvy pal speedup is something I have never heard of until now. I guess there isn't much you can do.
Yes EoE is in this box, I meant it’s not available standalone. And iirc because they couldn’t figure out something with the licensing rights either EoE or Death/Rebirth is subs only, even though both films were dubbed for dvd releases many years ago.
Well the company that did the dub with the release of the platinum DVDs doesn’t exist anymore and I guess the movies were done by yet another company and the current publisher just couldn’t determine who owns the movie dub now.
So apparently both EoE and Death/Rebirth are subs only BUT I also have 25' and 26' on Disc 6 dubbed. So I have the full length movie with subs, but at the same time I have the movie separated into two episodes but with dubs.... What...
Congratulations! 💜👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oh shit! I spent $300 on mine, back when it first came out. There’s no guessing how much your girlfriend spent. She’s a keeper.

And yes, she's the best.

This is the German edition, you can spot the colored age ratings on the CDs. The identical box came as Blu-ray and DVD version.

Surprised to hear that they made a whole DVD box set. Well, it should still look better than old DVDs if they downscaled from the HD remaster.
If you’re looking for a German version, EoE had no Bluray release. Only movies available on Bluray are the rebuild movies.
That's a bit odd. There is a blu ray version of this set so I assumed there would be a blu ray version of EoE inside?
But that makes the price tag of 300 even more ridiculous tbh. From what I gather I can get the german dub on Blu-ray for 100-150.

God, I knew getting physical copies of EVA is tedious, but this is more of a mess than I expected.

NGE + Death and Rebirth+ EoE on DVD. Some nice art panels and a little info book as well!
