Not to mention that the police are unhappy with how Fidesz is handling things (e.g. the current drug war) and they didn't do anything whatsoever to apply the Pride ban this year (not that they actually could with 300k participants). They halfheartedly set up a couple of face scanners but didn't punish anyone.
On the other hand, the previous army chief is a prominent face in the Tisza party and he still has a few friends around.

When you have old people unironically say to the camera "I am happy because Orban said so" and you know you can multiply that by hundreds of thousands more, it's scary. And they have no fucking clue about the prices of anything other than their basic groceries, or the devastated economic situation, debt spiral, frozen eu assets, antiterrorist forces kicking down the door on musicians who have a hit song about the corrupt system, to these folks these are just "opposition fake news, because Orban said so" and they are COMPLETELY unreasonable. Orban increased his own legal payment by 37%, increased the pensions by 0.3% and old folk praise him. 650 billion HUF (1.7 billion EUR) just disappeared from the national bank overnight, no mention of it in any Orban media, no investigation, no arrests, and these folk be like "nah doesnt matter, he put a price cap on milk". That money would have been enough to cover the healthcare system's debts, needs, upgrades for years, yet you wait 6 months to 6 years for EVERYTHING, and old people be like "yeeeah that's just how it is, always was". Meanwhile their grandchildren flee the country and they are silent about it, flabbergasted why.

Yesterday he surrounded his palace with barricades and deployed half of the Hungarian police force against people who had gathered simply to listen to a speech and brought children’s toys as donations. The guy has completely lost his mind.
The pride march should have put the fear of the people into his heart. It was a clear indication that he is no longer in control.
