it's not neccessary that they are attracted to children, but they are absolutely attracted to the idea of control and abuse. children are just easy targets. similair to how rape has barely anything to do with sex and lust, it's all about control and dominance.
It makes sense in a way. If you want something that's highly immoral and illegal, you can either spend your life in hiding or on the run, or you can work towards getting as much power as to be above the law. It must be a motivating factor for some
Orban’s government has been rocked by several child-abuse scandals in recent years.
Tens of thousands of Hungarians have taken part in a demonstration in Budapest demanding Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s resignation over his inaction towards repeated child-abuse scandals in the country.
Since returning to power in 2010, Orban has promised to prioritise the protection of children in Hungary, but multiple high-profile child abuse scandals have rocked his government in recent years.
Saturday’s protests, led by opposition party TISZA’s leader Peter Magyar, came after new allegations regarding a juvenile detention centre in the country’s capital Budapest surfaced in September. Security camera footage from the centre showed the director of the Szolo Street juvenile detention centre kicking a boy in the head.
Earlier this week, four staff members were taken into custody, and the government announced that it would place all such child facilities under direct police supervision.
On Saturday, thousands of protesters walked through Budapest’s frosty streets behind a banner reading “Protect the children!” and called on the government to take more action against the perpetrators. Some people also carried soft toys and torches in solidarity with victims of physical abuse in a case dating back several years.
On Friday, Magyar also released a previously unpublished official report from 2021, which found that more than a fifth of children in state-run care institutions had been abused.
“We should be outraged at what is being done with the most vulnerable children,” Zsuzsa Szalay, a 73-year-old pensioner who took part in Saturday’s protest, told the AFP news agency.

Orban’s government has insisted that action was being taken against suspected child abuse.
The prime minister, who faces what could be the toughest challenge to his 15-year rule in an election likely to be held in April, has also condemned the abuse in an interview with news outlet Mandiner, and called it unacceptable and criminal. “[Even] young criminals should not be treated this way,” he added.
But protesters said on Saturday Orban’s response was inadequate.
“Normally, a government would be toppled after a case like this,” 16-year-old David Kozak told AFP.
Last year, President Katalin Novak also bowed to public pressure and resigned after pardoning the deputy director of a state-run children’s school who was convicted of covering up sexual abuse by its director.
“For them, the problem is not that the abuses happened, but that they were revealed,” Kozak added.
Earlier this week, four staff members were taken into custody, and the government announced that it would place all such child facilities under direct police supervision.
But protesters said on Saturday Orban’s response was inadequate.
What kind of response were they expecting? There were four arrests and further police intervention.
Dude, the regime has known about this - not just this particular case but the fact that this shit is going on in the "child care system" - for at least a decade. (The videos making their rounds right now? Are not brand new, they're from ~10 years ago.) The former director of the institute who was grooming, prostituting and sexually abusing girls and boys, starting when they were underage? has been running his prostitution ring for ages with multiple reports on him while nobody did anything. All these monsters have been abusing these children for at least a decade knowing fully well that they were untouchable because they were so well integrated in the system and, most likely, had some powerful backers.
So gee, I dunno, I'd like to see some the people responsible for this shit, directly and indirectly, actually taking responsibility.
Unfortunately Viktor Orban ('s wallet) has gotten so fat that he is not going to step down... the Maffia will keep ruling till next election .. hopefully not longer.
Democracy is nice because it gives you the right to go protest, but if the protest is only marching through streets politicians will just laugh and shrug it off
As long as we are given fair elections there is no need to turn protests into a revolution. Will be interesting to see just how "fair" the Hungarian election will be, but the polls are not in orbans favour.
They are free, but not fair. As in, the opposition gets pretty much 5 minutes to make their case, in the face of 4 years of government propaganda. And other things of that nature.
Yeah right that's why we have elections, if people are not happy with the current government that they have to go outside and protest I think that's enough cause for early elections. That's why some European countries are turning to Russia like Hungary or Slovakia because of this so called elections
Fascists and dictators in power have absolutely no interest in giving you a fair election. They'll have you vote and then declare they won with some bullshit percentage. We all know what is the only thing that works with fascists.
It’s clear that Orban won’t quit just because of a protest, but elections are coming up in a few months. If we can make sure these scandals remain in the focus of public discourse until then, we can force him out of office. If not… then this country is absolutely hopeless.
Iceland, post Panama Papers. Organised protest outside of Icelandic embassy in Cph. That's the extent of my patience. Youre welcome to believe what you wish.
Yeah I believe you, that was an honest man in government but welcome to European union, prime minister Babiš from Czech republic oligarch after s protest where 250 thousand people went He didnt step Down And Now he was voted a prime minister again, Viktor Orbán another dipshit same mentality friend of Babiš didnt step Down And will not, Robert Fico another friend of Babiš which helped him through Slovakian courts to get rid of status of communist agent after protests didnt step Down too, Iceland had to be very lucky
We also voted one of the parties prevalent in the Panama Papers back into government. And the prime Minister at the time created a new populist party that since then grown substantially. Democracy is far from perfect.
This is not true. There are infinite examples of politicians changing policies due to a pacific protest. But I agree that they usually won’t resign unless things get dirty. Particularly, dictators or wannabe dictators.
new allegations regarding a juvenile detention centre in the country’s capital Budapest surfaced in September. Security camera footage from the centre showed the director of the Szolo Street juvenile detention centre kicking a boy in the head.
I don't see any mention of Vikor Orban being implicated in pedophilia?
One around 7 million people and the other ~5-6 million.
Sounds big until you realize that its barely 2% of the population.
Protests that oust governments are things that last weeks, months. Where people occupy symbolic spots, where the police gets more and more aggressive over time. Where people tend to die.
Those US protests are literally daytrips, a excursion for a lot of people. Look we protested ... go back to relax at home, next Monday back to work.
Notice how those protests are always in weekends. Because even the organizers know that if they do it in a week, the amount of people willing to sacrifice a pay day, will reduce attendance even more.
Its the protests where people keep going day in, day out, willing to give up pay checks, those are the protests that scare leaders.
So no, 2% of your population, in a weekend, that last a day, is at best a event for most people. I lived near Brussel, and we had protests every few weeks down there. Do you think things changed? Most of the time it was about the unions showing their power in negations (often about their money), but nothing really changed.
Its the protests like in Ukraine, and other countries, where people kept up for months, where people even died in, those are protests that change governments.
Some of protests in the UK (like the right wing ones or, at the time, pro-Brexit ones) might as well have been a massive piss up for the ‘protestors’. Go to London for the day and leave behind a mess for the locals to sort out, no different than what happens after a big football match. Of course, the papers make it look bigger than it is and ignore any counter-protesting.
If you’re in government when that’s happening you might as well just let the police keep it in check because the protest itself is absolutely toothless.
lol even under this protest people were saying stuff like, it was 0 degree, weekday, so it wasn't organized properly or smth. really? too cold to fight for your safety and freedom?
and what's weird toe is how quickly people denounced the US protestors, who actually got into some chaos, like burning cars. like your silly frog suits and snarky signs will do anything. so many guns, and they only shoot up schools.
You may not have noticed, but this is a thread about Hungary, who had Orban over twice as long as America did orange man. Go whine just about anywhere else on reddit how bad the orange man is.
It just feels a bit spoiled. You are not that special. Hungarians have you way outdone on this issue. The protests are more than overdue and Americans protest too. You certainly won't suffer Trump for 20 years in a row.
Hard disagree. I’m European and I can clearly see how the US under the Trump regime is attacking the EU, its liberal forces, its unity etc. while using “friendly” authoritarian governments (like Orban) or parties (AfD, Reform etc) to dismantle democracy. Our politics have very much to do with the US unfortunately.
Since you mention AfD, they are still at record heights in polls and nothing they say or do sticks at all to them, even though current chancellor often does his best to imitate them and their manners. And with Orban, it took 20 years of him in power for Hungarians to finally seem to be growing tired of him.
On the other hand, Americans are already very soured with Trump and it was very visible in their recent local elections.
I think Germans and Hungarians (and many other European peoples) struggle with this particular lesson as hard, or even harder than Americans, which is why i'd really like if we paid more attention to ourselves.
And i apologise for my hostile tone. I assumed you were just another American who only ever cares about their country and uses others as simply proxy for American politics even though 90%+ of reddit is already a space where you can bash Trump.
The inability of Europeans voting for far right to see how shit and harmful those parties are despite Trump showing the world how insane he is every day is something that worries me a lot and i wish more people in Europe would view it through that.
The difference is that Orbán has been more gradual in the buildup in his power and did things by the book. The erosion of the rule of law in America was much more sudden.
Orbán also didn't use law enforcement for intimidation and used welfare programs strategically. Trump is just a bull in the china shop.
That's fair, but you can always find some extra context. Americans are in a way lucky that Trump is this much of a bull in a china shop - but on the other hand their Democrats did many things that would make them utterly unelectable in Hungary and many other places in Europe too.
I still think we are way too unconcerned with local authoritarian far right on the whole (outside of Hungary right now, of course) cause in US the support is generally already eroding unlike in Europe.
Punctuation matters so much. I urge people to go learn it quickly. "Watch, America." is what you mean, but you instead said that we should "watch America". You basically said the opposite.
For some context: recently, there is not a single week in the country without a new pedophile scandal. Prominent members of the party, and circle of orbán, many of them holding various state honors.
Apparently, orban & friends systematically prostituted young kids (boys and girls as well) from orphanages... One of their idiotic propagandists (who is admittedly a fellow pedophile, btw) even dared to publicly downplay the whole issue by saying that "the kids earned money too, so where's the problem?".
No. Fidesz has always been a one man show. He changed the party and the voters at least once each, but Piggy stayed. Without him fidesz would get -10%.
Sadly, i don't see Orban ever leaving power in that country. He's best friends with Trump, Putin and Xi. He'll find a way to cling onto power any way he can.
Hey if Nepal and Bulgaria replaced their corrupt governments, I bet Hungary could at the very least force their PM to resign. A government only functions under a willing populance.
This is the thing that finally made Hungarian people upset? Don't get me wrong, it's a good reason to get upset, but Orban been robbing the people for years and making sure their country stays poor and corrupt. Still it's good to see people rising up.
Edit: Orban supporters clearly don't like it when someone brings up the fact their man is corrupt criminal. Few negative karma not gonna stop me calling em out.
A more general note: whenever I read about another outrage that erupts in any country towards abuses and corruption in state institutions, from orpahanges and prisons to customs and tax inspection, I keep thinking the same sad thought: all the nice, progressive people who are outraged and protest, they DO NOT GO TO WORK THERE. Moreover, they do not even make lawmakers/governments implement measures to make work in all those institutions attractive for progressive, highly educated people. Because it will mean more taxes and they generally do not want to be that much bothered. So everybody is enraged but keeps working in his nice higly-paying office job while state institutions mostly attract the corrupt, cruel, ignorant dregs of society... Think about it and next time somebody cries loudly against abuse and corruption - ask him/her/them - why don't you go and work there yourself to make it a better place? And/or - what have you done to make your parliament representative introduce legislation that will change the horrible status quo?
That's why he's a friend of the US pedo gang.
Litvinenko was murdered after alleging something similar about Putin. Are all these scum plaguing the world right now pedophiles?
Sociopaths and psychopaths. Zero empathy. Utter selfishness. Sadistic tendencies. Positions of authority are a magnet for these fucks.
it's not neccessary that they are attracted to children, but they are absolutely attracted to the idea of control and abuse. children are just easy targets. similair to how rape has barely anything to do with sex and lust, it's all about control and dominance.

Amazing just how awful that administration is too.
Where in the article are you getting this from? This is about a boy getting kicked in the head in a juvenile detention centre.
It's always the same people involved in these scandals. It seems it's their interpretation of "traditional values".
well according to "good old times", 12 year olds were already adults.
Selling daughter into slavery
Women have been a form of currency for most of human history. We need to end this cycle.
I won't be surprised if one of these leaders eventually will lower the age of consent.
Dude, age of consent is already 14 in Hungary 😭
Children as property to be used and abused as seen fit is called "parental rights"
Is it fair to say that most of these populists are anti-justice?
It's more about redefining justice to mean it's OK if they do it and not OK if anyone else does.
So yes.
You're just describing the concept of privilege that nobility used to have.

At very least the resignation of Bence Tuzson minister of justice. Who said there were no underage victims.
Dude, the regime has known about this - not just this particular case but the fact that this shit is going on in the "child care system" - for at least a decade. Hungarian elections are free, but definitely not fair since at least 2014 though.
Not fair if one side owns almost all the major news outlets.
They are free, but not fair. As in, the opposition gets pretty much 5 minutes to make their case, in the face of 4 years of government propaganda. And other things of that nature.
How fair are elections where ballots from abroad get torn up and burned if they don't have the "right" vote in them?
Yeah right that's why we have elections, if people are not happy with the current government that they have to go outside and protest I think that's enough cause for early elections. Fascists and dictators in power have absolutely no interest in giving you a fair election. They'll have you vote and then declare they won with some bullshit percentage. We all know what is the only thing that works with fascists.
Massive protests that go unanswered lead to more protests. If a massive portion of your population isn't working then they can't be shrugged off.
The Bulgarian government has just resigned. Protests matter.
It’s clear that Orban won’t quit just because of a protest, but elections are coming up in a few months. If we can make sure these scandals remain in the focus of public discourse until then, we can force him out of office. If not… then this country is absolutely hopeless.
I have been directly involved in organizing protests that (among other things ofc) resulted in a snap election.
Yeah right and then you woke up right
Iceland, post Panama Papers. Organised protest outside of Icelandic embassy in Cph. That's the extent of my patience. Youre welcome to believe what you wish.

Yeah so soon half of the Europe
Democracy is so nice that pedos and nutjobs consistently get elected 👍
Sure. Like they shrugged off the independence protests for India or the east European protests that brought down the soviet Union.
What's with the apathetic bs?
you're confusing protest with revolution
one tends to be a lot more successful than the other.
Amazing man, holy shit, thanks for opening our eyes...
protests are only merching
He won’t. But it is good he heard the chanting. It is getting to him and it shows, he is afraid.
Yep. Every time.
Suddenly the cozy relationship with the america right wing is making perfect sense. Christian nationalism and pedophilia go hand in hand.
Where are you reading this?
I don't see any mention of Vikor Orban being implicated in pedophilia?
Because you don't know half of this ongoing scandal.
What is it with far-right populist politicians and abuse scandals?
Why do "family values" politicians never actually care about (family) values?
Good riddance to bad rubbish
Imagine that, one of the world’s most useless “leaders” is a child rapist, who could have thought! /s
Right-wingers and child abuse, name a more iconic duo.
Watch, America, that’s how you do it
I mean, America had two massive protests this year. One around 7 million people and the other ~5-6 million.
Sounds big until you realize that its barely 2% of the population.

This regime has got o be destroyed. It’s a cancer to the US and to the world
You may not have noticed, but this is a thread about Hungary, who had Orban over twice as long as America did orange man. Go whine just about anywhere else on reddit how bad the orange man is.
Your point does not make mine any less relevant. And relax your tone. Don’t act like the people you don’t support.
It just feels a bit spoiled. You are not that special. Hungarians have you way outdone on this issue. The protests are more than overdue and Americans protest too. You certainly won't suffer Trump for 20 years in a row.
Ok and? This is a Europe sub.
I can also make valid political points on a cooking subreddit, but no one cares because that's not the topic.
You can bring US into the topic where it's relevant. Here it wasn't.

You are correct. Good point. Edited
What, doing nothing?
There's a reason Trump likes him.
Always the people you most suspect
He's too stubborn to step down like this
Okay buddy
You really believe he'd step down?
For some context: recently, there is not a single week in the country without a new pedophile scandal. Prominent members of the party, and circle of orbán, many of them holding various state honors.

Do you have a link where we can read more about this?

drop em in a translater, the news are filled with all this in the last couple of days
Orban's ruling style's been sketch af, dude.
This is why Hungary and most EU countries are eager to "combat child abuse" with Chat Control and identity verifications.
All these rightwingers literally cant help themselves.
At this point it's a pattern, just outlaw all of them, it's never going to get better, they'll just keep being disgusting monsters
Where are you seeing in the article that the juvenile detention centre in Budapest is rightwing?
The arrested leader of that institution is appointed and fuckin AWARDED by the ruling government. You don't know half of this scandal.
If he quits, then his party can send someone else into the next elections, which might be beneficial for them?
So no, don't ask for his resignation. Let him run again and make sure he's voted out.
No. Fidesz has always been a one man show. He changed the party and the voters at least once each, but Piggy stayed. Without him fidesz would get -10%.
Username checks out
You see that America?
This parasite is not that easy to remove. It's sucking blood of Hungarian state for so long...
People have been upset for years and years
As well as they should. There's been surprisingly little push against Orban though.
Éljen Magyarország!!
“birds of a feather flock together” as the saying goes
Beware the little green men.
A more general note: whenever I read about another outrage that erupts in any country towards abuses and corruption in state institutions, from orpahanges and prisons to customs and tax inspection, I keep thinking the same sad thought: all the nice, progressive people who are outraged and protest, they DO NOT GO TO WORK THERE. thats just some bullshit you made up to feel better
