• The Romanian government shouldn't mess around with their citizens around Xmas time, look what happened last time. Just give them what they want and live.

I think back in 2017 it was also in winter when those big anti-corruption pro-justice protests happened. Sadly all the bad laws during that time were implemented during covid times and now the justice system is weaker and more corrupt than ever

We only protest in winter, as is tradition.

It was end of January & start of February.

Romanians tend to get a little edgy during winter.

Personally, I blame the daylight changing time - but the favt that it's not yet abolished is just another measure of our leader's utter incompetence.

Well, the president invited the judges to his office for the 22nd of December. Rather symbolic gesture given what happened on 22.12.1989

A state coup happened in 1989, that used the revolutionary wave and people in order to put the 2nd row of Communists in power. Nothing really changed.

Sure thing mate - why absolutely nothing changed, Romanians are still lining up hours at a time in the morning for food and baby milk powder. We remain a dictatorship too, in case you forgot about it and need a reminder ...

You do realise that without the "2nd coup" you would most likely not be allowed as a Romanian to freely speak about it in such terms on an internet forum right?

Change doesn't happen overnight and the situation the current judicial system finds itself in is partly due to the common laissez-faire attitude of many Romanians that still romanticise about the good old days under 'Ceasca and continue to vote in politicians that have only their self interests at heart. And the sad part is that a significant percentage of the younger generation would not mind a totalitarian system, despite having no fucking clue what that represents. As a protestor in the Reporter documentary said towards the end "We are a people of cowards".

We managed to have a revolution with minimal bloodshed compared to most others in history, and we thought our work as a society is done. We let the politicians do the rest now that we did the hard part of going out in the streets. Well, this is the consequence.

    "minimal bloodshed" lol

The vibe is given by the current power block, which with URSS losing power, Iliescu and the secret services went westward to get more money while keeping the same system alive here.

Look at the justice system, do you actually think anything changed from 30 years ago?

  • It was also on national TV, it reached way more than the views on Youtube

one of the best decisions national tv ever made hahaha

I don’t remember a better one to be honest.

Unfortunately the politicians have the ropes to dismiss the director of public television for airing the video of the investigation, which they are already trying to achieve.

Oh, crazy sh t. I hope someone makes subtitles, it will be very beneficial for the cause and informational for me.

Good luck with the protests and don't give up!

You can enable the subtitles and let YouTube auto-translate it to English. I just checked, and it translates pretty OK.

Oh, I didn't know that, thanks for letting me know.

Recorder is top notch. One of the few amazing things we have in the media landscape. Long live independent investigative journalism I say, we need them now more than ever.

  • We will continue protesting Daily untill we get true reform and change.

I hope more will come join for the protests. And I hope something will change for the better. One can only hope

On Wednesday we were 500 in Bucharest On Thursday we were 2K Now 12K I hope we will be even more on Saturnday

12k? I only know about over 5k in bucharest and over 1k in Cluj-Napoca

News Channels reported 12K,so i took this number

If you aren’t careful you will get a Russian stooge selling out your country more than you could have imagined…

  • It’s not just a journalist investigation. They got judges to appear on camera and say that the whole judicial system is controlled by a few people who in their turn are controlled by politicians. Words can’t describe how huge this is.

Tomorrow I will be there protesting too.

What's worse is that it was caught on live camera the day after, when the Bucharest Court of Appeal gave a press conference about how the documentary contained misinformation... you can't make this shit up...

Nobody said our corrupt judge mgmt team is smart ... You have to be pretty moronic to not understand that having 30 mics next to your mouth will pick up anything you will say.

  • I'm happy that eastern countries like Romania and Bulgaria are pissed off about the corruption and go to the streets, now if only Hungary could do the same...

Mass protest coming this saturday and sunday. TlDr: a rolling shitstorm about children getting beaten and sexually abused in state run youngsters jails and orphanages. This time Orban knew about it but lied about it on camera. This is the 3 rd scandal in 2 years, every time they promise to fix it. The guy they appointed instead of the pedo/pimp is now revealed to have a habit of beating the kids. Orban stole all the money so systems like state run facilities for the young are dirt poor. If you rule with absolute majority(godmode in parliament) for the past 15 years this is unexcusable.

Main chsllenger of Orban, Peter Magyar called out to the government to resign and have the 26 april elections as soon as possible.

Just because you don't read the news of a given country you talk shit about doesn't mean nothing is happening there.

Currently Fidesz is in trouble because earlier this week CCTV footages were leaked where the workers at Szőlő Street juvenile detention centre were beating up minors in their care after months of Orbán himself claiming there were no underage victims. (article)

After this got out two protests were organized for saturday and sunday with the one on saturday directly organized by Tisza Party with the aim of making Orbán resign and to have election earlier if he actually does.

And just today a report from 2021 was leaked to Péter Magyar, the Tisza Party leader which confirmed that thousands of children were abused by the child protection system workers that was known to both the government and the police, neither of them actually doing anything about it and Fidesz actively trying to hide it. The legitimacy of this document has been attested to by the Interior Ministry shortly after, further fueling the flame against Fidesz.

So look forward to the posts about it this weekend.

They have an even older population and even the middle aged ones are kinda brainwashed by Russian propaganda and the delusional cockroach Orban and simply believe whatever that roach says. The few young people that they have aren't enough to change the tides there. I have zero hope that Hungary will get rid of Orban in the next 10-15 years. The few protests they organized are simply ignored anyway.

and when will you guys go to the streets? it seems like Meloni being Trump's cumbucket is totally fine with yall

Nah Meloni has always said one thing and did another, so far she was extremely pro-eu and pro-ukraine. It's Salvini that is pro-russia but he has no power at the end of the day.

They had a protest at LGBTQ march, but Romania won't have that kind of thing ever cause we're a deeply religious and homophobic country

I wasn't talking about the pride parade. I was pointing that even people that had 0 intention of participating went to the march just as a "Fuck you, Orban"

Our pride parade is followed by a "normality" march. For example Oradea is blocking the march for years.

  • Go go Romanians! Take example from Bulgarians and crowd the square! There is still more space to fill in...

  • FYI, Lia Savonea, the current corrupt-in-chief of the "justice" branch essentially just nuked the entire thing, she got rid of the entire criminal part that could have gone after her and installed her own corrupt yes-men literally today.

They are not backing down, at this point this is quite literally treason, a barbaric national security problem and not to mention it is essentially a complete hostile take-over of what little is left of the government that isn't completely corrupt.

  • Let's go neighbors!!!

  • Fuck them up, neighbours! 🇷🇴

  • Start waving the One Piece flag. That'll make politicians real nervous these days

While we're at that, let's put a giant pair on someone shortly after retconning their age to 12

  • I am in the picture! Will go today/ tomorrow and as many days it is needed

  • Protests take place in other cities as well.

  • 🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴

  • Fuck yeah! 😎💪🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴

    Go, Rawmanians, go!

  • what is the protest about? The entire justice system or did something happen?

Few people control all the judicial system(they are also corrupt)

  • Please tell me it’s the younger generation again, because ngl, this year has been an absolute wild ride when you look into how many younger-generation mass protests have been going on, which is inevitably a good thing. Corruption and blatant bullshit should be heavily scrutinized and addressed — not only in smaller nations like Romania, but in practically every nation around the world. The global institutions of the world are basically retirement homes, and the young need a voice in the matter, because it’s blatantly obvious that current institutions would rather commit crimes and then boast about it online than actually address the issues the world is currently facing.

I’d say it mostly 25-45 yo

  • I hope they accomplish something this time . Last time they fell for the lies and empty promises.

In an alternate universe, they'd float for the truths and full promises.

  • Immense scandal after journalists demonstrated how the proceedings of the Court of Apeals in Bucharest have been systematically altered through administrative means by a clique of corrupt judges who took over the management positions in a short period of time

  • The Supreme Committee for Prosecutors and Judges is led by corrupt people who change the judges without reason during big corruption trials.

As per EU law, cases are appointed through a software that randomises judges with the right expertise. Once the trial starts, a new judge can be handpicked every time a vacancy appears (in case of death, retirement, illness etc).

Here comes the loophole: Whenever a judge is ready to pass a verdict, they get promoted / demoted/ assigned to another trial chamber in a different city.

A new judge is picked by the head of the Committee (instead of randomly assigned) and by law they have to review the entire evidence again, call and listen to all the witnesses once more.

This judge removal repeats itself multiple times and the trial drags on until the statute of limitations expires (witnesses memories and all evidence is considered expired after a number of years. This law exists in every country) or the plaintiff gives up.

When the prosecutors ask for explanations for the changing of judges, they are given none. One time they complained to the Supreme Court about the Committee's behavior. The Court agreed that the 2 judges were perfectly capable of ruling over that case and put them back.

The judges passed a guity verdict against the head of an insurance company who stole millions, after which the 2 judges were stripped of their licenses by the Committee.

The reason? The judges were accused of acting in an unprofessional manner and using language that would discredit the institution.

That means they lose their special pension rights, their rent payments and they have to find a new job.

One judge came forward and said a rape victim was giving up on her case because it had already taken 8 years and she had to explain her story and get cross-examined multiple times because of this.

People who were initially declared guilty and sentenced to dozen of years in prison and returning billions in stolen taxpayer money got off the hook because the retrials took too long (after changing 7 judges).

Multiple judges and prosecutors have publicly complained about being kept in a state of fear by their superiors. 850 of them have signed a petition demanding change.

The Committee refused to answear questions from journalists, has said the documentary is all lies, has disbarred the judges who stepped forward, as well as rearrannged ALL the judges under their authority (the high courts) and repalaced them with unexperienced, previously non-penal judges. All in the span of 3 days.

If we don't change anything, the Tate brothers will get away too, as well as the Nordis building scammers (the current big 2 cases).

We probably did not invent this loophole, check your judicial system too if you are from an EU country.

Bonus: a state prosecutor who was investigating financial fraud commited by a secret service employee was fired without explanation

  • I can't believe I live here man I've been so busy with sickness and university Im so behind Idk what we're even prostesting about now and if I ask the ppl I talk with they just get mad at me because I don't know -

  • Hungarians should do the same ngl

  • EU forced independence of the justice system for ascension. This was our justice system that got set free. They now sell out to anyone with a million euros, no longer limited by political strings.

Now politicians like to be nice to judges and prosecutors cause you never know when your theft might be uncovered.

  • Dar acum pe bune, Recorder nu poate sa dea pe fata cum stau lucrurile mai asa, primavara? Sa fie frumos afara. Romanul e chitit pe sfarsit de an. Iese in strada doar pe ger, ploaie, zapada. Nu vrea deloc cand infloresc ciresii.

  • Is that the new " protest " guided by moscow ?

Probably you have no idea how Romania is or you're just a bot.

If you're really interested read about the subject, else just shut up.

A lot of politicians and people in the system are from the former PCR (a small insight, I'll let you discover the rest)

Ok ... so it's totally guided from russia, under the guise of population protection, ofc ... Is there some election going on right now ? russia's minion are still squealing about Simeon / Carlin ?

Am găsit suveranistul patriot plecat prin vest. N-a durat mult sa te dai de gol sincer sa fiu

    19d account age:)

Carlin died in 2008, and you muscovites wouldn't like his humor anyway

I ment Simion and Calin and only your dishonesty refrained you to make the link.

I've seen too many fake protests in Romania, full of lemmings paid by putin, to not be doubtfull about this one (See inegibility of Simion / Calin).

And - how surprise - the same dialectic by Trump / Orban / Le Pen and all those kind of fuckers : "juges are corrupt because they try to convict me !!".

You've seen so many protests in Romania, but you don't even know the names of the persons involved? You called one of them by last name, one of them by first name, so you clearly aren't uptodate on anything about romania to have seen any protests. You clearly don't even know who is saying the judges are corrupt and who are defending them.

The only remaining question is if you are an alt-right trying to take over any kind of protests or just the usual useful idiot.

  • Wonder how many pick pockets are there?

They’re all in your country, Tnx

ZERO. You can leave your phone on the ground at these kinds of protests and come back an hour later to pick it up.

Last time this happened during winter (2017), protesters would even picked up the trash after themselves in the square before they left for the night.

Same number as your brain cells: zero

  • That’s equivalent to my family reunion, seems pretty light if you ask me

    my family reunion

    quite a numerous family though

    apparently insects

Is it because your mom it’s e very friendly person?
