After agonising over this decision for months, I finally plumped for the Profitec Pro 700 Drive. Arrived yesterday alongside the DF83V - and I couldn’t be happier!
I’m in love! Coming from a Barista Express, it’s another world. It’s got all the features I could ever really want - I particularly like the novelty of having no-burn steam and hot water wands. It’s also the less sexy things like having a settings menu in full English (rather than codes and abbreviations).
Pressure-wise it seems to be on the higher side like yours, but I see you can adjust the OPV down (or I guess set the flow control so it starts at 8 or 9 bar instead). Like you I’m still playing with the pre-infusion settings. I went for 10 active and 3 passive and then realised that was far too long.
You've given me some food for thought I hadn't considered using the flow control to temper bar pressure. My very first machine so I didn't want to touch flow control until I felt like I'd mastered the essentials
I'm not able to plumb mine in but the reservoir holds plenty in my experience. I'm using mineral water from Tesco here in UK
Yeah, I'm also a new owner, about a month now. 8 also find the stock group head pressure 10 to 11 bars. I have been using flow control and it using it to make longer "soup" coffees with medium to light roasts. It's really impressive.
I did find that my baskets are coming out dirty when knocking out after a brew. I got the ECM shower screen upgrade but without a puck screen ,I find myself having to clean the group head every time. Anyone else experience this?
I'm by no means an expert so I'll tell you what I've understood and you can set me straight!
When you say your baskets are dirty, when I knock my puck out there is some remnants in the basket but the vast majority comes out as one. Is that known as dirty?
I myself use a puck screen and find the group head is still as new four months in. I do, as I'm sure everyone does, back flush after every brewing each morning
Might it possibly be overfilling the basket in the first instance?
Yeah this is the same for me. My previous machine was a Rancillio Silvia and every puck would come out completely intact leaving nothing in the bracket. It's not a big deal for me just a difference.
I got a finer shower screen installed so the grinds are less likely to travel back into the group head. It seems to work as backflushing just brings back clean water. So far at least.
I mentioned using puck screens when I picked up the machine when they did a demo for me. They advised that this shower screen would save me the hassle of fishing out the screen from the knock box everything ;)
It's called "ECM (IMS) Precision Shower Screen E61 – High NanoQuartz Coating" if you want to goole it. Installation is simple, you just pry the existing one out, there are no screws. Just need to pry all around the backet to get it out.
Yeah, Good point. I'm thinking about this too now. I'll have to check out a videa to see where it is. I wonder if there is ever a need for pressures over 9 bar?
Love it! - particularly enjoy how quiet it is compared to the buzzing, chugging and whining of my dearly departed Barista Express. Can’t plumb it in at the moment having been relegated to the far corner of the kitchen, but maybe one day!
Enjoy!
I'm in month 4 of owning mine! How are you finding it?
How is the bar pressure for you? Mine ramps up to 10.5 during brewing
I landed on 3 seconds active and 2 passive pre infusion but still playing with that
Flow control next!

Wish you every enjoyment with your new machine!

I wasn't even aware that you could add something to the group head
Is it common to do? Am I missing out not having it for example lol

V interesting! I'll take a look.
Out of interest have you considered lowering the opv or are you leaving the pressure as stock i.e 10 -11 bar
I've thought about it and it seems easy enough. But as OP mentioned could also use flow control to temper the pressure to bring it down

Going on 1 and a half years strong, no issues yet with careful water input. Workhorse for sure!
I’ve been learning how to Ride for half a year now.
Still fall sometimes:)
That’s a beautiful setup. enjoy the learning curve!
Very swish !
I love this machine!
Congratulations! How are you liking it so far?
If you are able to plumb it in, don't forget to add the pressure regulator valve. The water pressure should be at ~2bar/30psi.
