• Might as well rename the EPA to the OPA. The Oil Protection Agency.

    Oya beltalowda

I've just changed it to EDA: Environmental Destruction Agency.

    Outer Planets Alliance?

    🤢😡

    Environmental Propaganda Agency

  • Yikes, the metrics that are tracked are the ones that improve.

  • Criminal. Disgusting.

The people in favor of this are murderers by proxy. Politicians whose actions lead to the murder of their own citizens are treasonous.

    The penalty for treason is...

  • How do they keep topping themselves?

Air pollution is EASILY the most deadly environmental health variable in developed economies. This is legit evil.

It's not that they just don't give a fuck it's that they truly want people to suffer. The suffering, they believe, will cause us all to be groveling and subservient.

    I think they are wrong.

It’s beyond exhausting. I don’t know how effectively we’ll be able to revert the damage done throughout the 4 entire fucking years of this admin. A lot of the damage will likely be irreversible. Where are the people in power who are stopping this??? What can we do to prevent this madness and horror?

  • Hospitalizing or killing the customer is a mighty dumb business model.

But here we are, thanks to way too many people's shitty political calculus the nation is being managed by the worst among us.

If the customer gets hospitalized that’s just another opportunity to bleed them financially dry.

We now live in what might be, to my knowledge, the only modern example of a kakistocracy. Perhaps the Khmer Rouge would qualify. But certainly the US is the most powerful one to ever exist.

To be fair, a lot of the stuff we are exposed to is only going to shave a decade or two off of our lives at best. There is the occasional unlucky person who contracts something very serious way too early, but for the most part, many of us have good odds of dying around retirement age or thereabouts. Killing us off around the time we stop contributing to the labor output is a good business model in their eyes. I hope it becomes cool to wear a bubble suit soon.

  • Wasn't that the like whole point of the EPA? I assume this will be litigated as well. The only solace I have is that most of Trump's environmental rules changes the first time were stopped by the courts and the ones that weren't were reversed by Biden. The long term damage was the delay in implementing a lot of these things. By the time much of Trump's policies go into effect it will be close to the next Presidential election anyway. Its a ridiculous sea-saw. I do think that a future Democratic administration needs to go hard and fast with these rules next time and eviscerate fossil fuels making it impossible to reverse course should the political climate change.

    They've done this on purpose.

During the first term, they did their rule changes towards the end, so when people brought challenges to these rules the first time they were tried in Biden's courts (whatever that means). But a lot of those challenges were successful. So this time... as written in Project 2025, regulations were rewritten early so they could have the lawsuits be challenged and routed through Trump-friendly judges.

The quicker the lawsuit, the more likely they are to see a Trump judge to nail the rule with precedent.

Also, I should say... the EPA is not making these rule changes. These aren't the feds. These are the political appointees they put in charge of the EPA. There are still thousands of hard working people who work through all presidential administrations who try to keep the American People safe. They are not happy with any of these kinds of headlines. They came out over the summer with "Making Gas Cans Great Again," and the EPA doesn't have a Gas Can office or Gas Can studies.

The EPA was damaged by the personnel cuts and I don't know how to feel about it. On one hand, they earned retirement. On the second hand, they were fine with all their hard work going in the garbage which is where it was absolutely warned to go. So the people who claimed virtue for fighting for the environment are the people who took an early vacation and retirement through the DRP to put us in this predictable scenario.

Yes but Biden did appoint a huge number so I don't think all is lost at the courts. I did read that article though.

He did, and you can win in district court as a result. But you then lose the appeal in 10 cases out of 11

Don’t forget this is the agency Nixon started.

Can we reverse this? Can we protest this like we did in the 60s?

  • Is anyone surprised at this point?

  • This administration's view on environmental protection in a nutshell.

  • I told MAGA people this was coming and they laughed at me. Typical response: "Why would a company kill its own customers?". As if tobacco didn't exist. There's no hope for them.

  • The Republican strategy is simple. Eliminate healthcare. Eliminate education. Replace people with AI. Turn the poor and middle class into serfs to be exploited. If people die off, all the better.

  • It was already acceptable to give cancer to one in a thousand to one in a million people through exposure.

  • Another step toward making us all slaves to big business. I wonder how the Executive Managerial Class plans to breathe.

  • This is a direct physical attack on the well being of Americans. How is this NOT the actions of a Domestic Enemy that needs to be removed by anyone that took the oath ?

  • Well to be fair, most of the lives saved were poor people. And who really cares about the lives of the common plebians?

  • will no one think of the billionaires!

  • What the fuck. They aren't even pretending to care about us?

  • The daily reminder Trump/conservatives/republicans will kill anyone for a penny in revenue. Imagine all of the new cases of cancer this will lead to.

  • They need to obviously consider deaths imposed when setting rules on air pollution…clearly that’s the focus…

Funeral homes are going to make a killing on this EVERYWHERE (pun intended)….

  • Every news release about Trump’s government has me shaking my head. The US is losing its mind.

  • Maybe if they’re worried about the bottom line, they can be sued for the cardiac damage and deaths of people who succumb to the effects of pollution.

  • Penny wise, pound foolish.

  • ...

"Health doesn't matter. Only profits matter!" Well, bye-bye EPA as we know it.

  • We live in perhaps the worst timeline

  • Is this /rnottheonion?

  • Are you fucking kidding me???

  • I don’t actually recommend this book because it’s so graphic and disturbing, but Murderland: Crime and Bloodlust in the time if serial killers, by Caroline Fraser, makes a reasoned argument that the peak decades of serial killing in the US in the 1970’s and -1980’s have a very close correlation to industrial and environmental pollution coming from leaded gasoline and smelter toxins.

It’s criminal to see us return to a time when companies would lie with a straight face about poisoning everyone and everything and we had no recourse and no way to seek remedy. Polluters never just do the right thing without external pressure. They will take their money and run and leave us to live and die in their dirt.

  • The EDA

    Environmental Destruction Agency!

Goodbye and thanks for all the fish!
