DEmul the Dreamcast , NAOMI and Hikaru emulator got an update after seven years after the last version, and we get much better arcade Hikaru emulation! Nice because it's one of the rarest Sega boards and the most delicate.
DEmul emulator was for the longest time un-updated, and really not worked on much at all but a brand new build of DEmul released on 12/11/2025.
You can find the build in the DEmul Discord (pinned in general)
VGE goes over the new update in a new video
DEmul, now that's a name I've not heard in a long time, a long time.
What's next on the docket, a late 2025 Nesticle and Genecyst update?
Last version of Demul (in 2018) was really good. Could play almost every Dreamcast and Naomi/Naomi 2 game with no issues. It was more compatible and more accurate than Flycast for quite some time after that. And even now it's not exactly clear which is better, though the excessive shader compilation brings Demul down a few notches.
Flycast got Naomi 2 support in 2022 so for many years Demul was the only way to play these games.
And now it's the only way to play the Hikaru board...
Chankast and NullDC gonna come out of no where with new builds
NullDC got updated/rewritten this year
Excellent development! Christmas early for retro Sega fans.
Does fullscreen finally work like it's supposed to? I have to use a third party app Borderless gaming just to force it to go fullscreen for Brave Fire Fighters and Star Wars Arcade.
Author said these settings don't work yet for Hikaru games, it's a known issue.
Great to see DEmul get an Update
Emulators don't usually get flagged as viruses, do they? https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/0f8aacfc420c6c43b715522e6b1ca7eab9a68580ca15eda2ceb39372422c8d95
They usually do, false positives.
Which emulators and why?
Many, sometimes random builds will contain false positives due to the tools used to compile them, it's nothing to worry about.
I have DNF vibes 😂 but it's great to see a continuous development of the emulator 👍
What's a good quality flight stick for Planet Harriers? Don't need a high end model, but want something quality with real heft, or a desk mount, I guess.
I just tried it out. I noticed there was some hitching on the Hikaru games. I am not certain if that is normal. It is when it cuts to another scene.
Maybe this setup video will help identify some issues: https://youtu.be/FPkX2-04fa4
It is great that they are finally working on Demul again. I think it is the only emulator that supports a microphone for Seaman.
I'm trying to play Planet Harriers but the joystick control is super sensitive even after using the calibration tool in the service menu. Has anyone else had an issue with this? Is there a solution?
Maybe ask here for their setup: https://youtu.be/wO0FUhCl8u0
Are you using an analog stick? It feels OK to me on the default settings. The controls on Star Wars Racer are wrong so you can't play with two analog sticks as intended and it accelerates on its own.
Yeah I'm just using a dualshock 4 controller. That's interesting to know about Star Wars Racer because I couldn't figure out how to accelerate, only boost and brake.
