Ok, I’m 26f and on the bigger side but also actively trying to lose weight. My problem is the pants.
My favorite pants have 8 pockets and a wonderful thigh gusset. They’re also men’s pants. They’re also $95. The current pair lasted 2 1/2 months. It’s not the gut or the inseam; it’s the thigh.
Why is the thigh the worst part? If I go up in size they’ll be too big. Increase the inseam, to long. I just need the thigh wider.
I swear I’m about to start making my own pants.
Depends on the pants brand unfortunately. I know theyre $95 but do you really need 8 pockets?
Could you get away with normal cargos until you lose the weight? Temporary measure and make it your goal to fit into the old ones.
Thats what id do - but also, what are you storing to use 8 pockets? You'll hurt yourself carrying shit.
2 rear pockets, two normal side pockets, and two cargo pockets with a zipper pocket behind them.
Men’s pants are generally regarded as better fit for women most of the time. If you’re handy with a needle then you can always hem the pant so the inseam is shorter if it’s a good fit in the thigh region. I personally have super big thighs + behind as a dude with how my fat and muscle fit and i always get a size bigger if it fits my upper leg, then just tuck into boot or hem as needed
Dont buy 5.11 or pants made specifically for EMS/Fire. Most of the time they're just hiking/shooting pants with too many pockets and a marked up price. Years ago I bought pants from some small outdoor outlet thats made of rip stop fabric, is way more breathable, fits better, stretches, and the pockets (of which there are only 4) are way spacier and easier to access. They were like 35$ each. Best EMS pants ever.
Oh, I know which ones you’re talking about, aviator or something, right? If my memory serves me right, it’s challenging to return any products?
I’d find a good tailor, and also check on company policy if they allow other types of pants maybe? And maybe order one pair larger and consult with a tailor on ways to reduce chafing? Tailors have a surprising amount of knowledge.
This is why I often buy women’s EMS pants and just let them be a little loose. ESPECIALLY if you want to use those pockets.
Go up a size, bring to tailor to have the waist/length hemmed but leave the rest. There's people out there who's whole livelihood revolves around making clothes fit better.
This is the way. The place I buy my pants (local mom and pop) actually hems them for free.
I get pants a few sizes too big and have the waist taken in. It's really the only answer
Girl. First tactical V2 pant. I started in EMS August 2000 (yes, 25 years ago!) and have always been full time hours as my primary job. I have weighed anywhere from 178lbs size 12, to 320lbs size 26/28.
I have spent around 1/2 that time as 280lbs size 22, and for the last five years I have been around 200-220 size 14-18. I have always had the big thighs and ass. I have tried every single ‘women’s cut’ out there and since finding my First Tactical pants it is all I wear.
They run average to a tiny bit small. For example at the moment I wear a size 14 in jeans with some stretch, but mostly wear a Size 16. Their size 16 pants are comfy on me but a bit snug. I have to wear the size 18’s when I am bloated at that time of the month. The 18’s are comfortable enough I could wear them all the time I just like a snugger fit.
I rotated through only two pairs of pants for a year and a half before I wore the thigh through enough that I wanted to replace them. And that was working 5-6 shifts a week, so a lot of washing and drying. I could have gotten another couple months out of them before I needed to stop wearing them, but I had the funds to get more so I just ‘retired’ the one with the thinning thigh fabric to be my backup uniform that I keep in my trunk. It was nice to know I had a ‘good’ pair in my backup bag also, since I replaced them before there were holes or the fabric was see through in the thighs.
Hey cross post to plus-size they may have some tips
When I did little jobs at two agencies, I struggled with the size of workpants, too. I have thicc anatomy downstairs, also legs, and during my dispatch I had to wear a size too small and when I went to patient, climb across something and almost became the emergency.
OR you look like a tent. It's not about looks but most pants are so impractical. The only ones I wear that fit me and my build are from Helly Hansen. They have stretch, are waterproof, and don't make you look like a bewildered garden gnome.
It would be easier for me to grow a large fupa than find pants that fit.
Get men’s generic rip stop tactical pants on Amazon for like $35-40. They are way more comfortable and the thigh has lasted me over 2 years for each pair. They are also breathable and stretchy. I’m a size 14 with most of my weight in my butt and thighs and I’ve had zero issues with them 🙌
